We're home! A friend who now lives in Fort Lauderdale picked us up at the port. We got to see her condo and take her out to lunch. We made it to FLL in time for our flight. We met two women who had been on our ship, but we did not recognize them. They were flying through Atlanta, and their flight was taking off at the gate beside ours.

Our plane was on time. The Atlanta flight was delayed, even though the board above the gate agents said it was on time. The flight home was a little bit bumpy, but not as bad as our flight to London from Toronto. We ubered home at rush hour. It took eight minutes longer than predicted.

Thanks so much for the live coverage.  I really enjoyed it.   Travel safely in the future and hope to meet up on another Princess cruise.

it's been well documented here ... when people can get internet connections ... that cruisers that get free internet minutes because of their captain circle level 'should' wait until they get on board ... then 'turn in' their minutes for a discount on the unlimited package ...

what Ship ,by the way ?

    Crown......one of my faves...’’’

as important - what is your cruise itinerary ? ( Caribbean, Norway, japan, south America )  it makes a huge difference as to satellite connectivity ... or whatever it is the forum experts state ...

FLL to Southern Caribbean.   BCs, Grenada, Dominica, etc.

Should be lotsa satellites.    Any info on the embarkation price for elites?  No info on website.

    Thanks, voljeep.

I'm currently on the Crown's transatlantic cruise from Southampton to Fort Lauderdale (September 22-October 8). The internet speed started slowly and has gotten horribly worse. The first day, I decided that we did not have enough free minutes to do everything we planned to do--read our hometown paper, check our emails, check Facebook, and keep a live thread. So I purchased unlimited internet for one device. It's gotten to the point where that is almost useless as well. Sometimes my emails won't load. Sometimes Facebook stops after loading a few posts. Our hometown newspaper won't download at all because it's too large. I'm about to give up attaching photos to my live thread because it's taking too long.

On the first day, the speed was around 2 Mbps. It went up to 7.21 Mbps on our second day, but has degraded down to less than 1 Mbps. Today at the Internet Café, it was 0.52 Mbps. One of the MedallionNet folks had suggested I try to download my paper on a computer connected to the internet by a cable rather than through Wi-Fi. It's not living up to the promise of "The Best Wi-Fi at Sea." There's no way I could Facetime with anyone or stream a video. https://www.princess.com/ships-and-experience/ocean-medallion/medallionnet/

The internet manager has promised that we'll have fast speeds after October 4. That means suffering through four more days of unacceptable internet. I feel like asking for a refund.

Is this a Medallion cruise?  I am boarding in three weeks and trying to decide if it is worth upgrading my elite minutes.  I appreciate your comments.

Hot Chocolate is listed on the IC menu. As for soda, I would just take my own aboard with my carry on luggage. That way I could have exactly what I wanted rather than being subject to the extremely limited soda menu on Princess ships.

On my 15 day TA, I am wondering whether to get a coffee card. I generally don’t use all the drinks on it.  Will the unused portion carry over to the next 7 days from BCN to Rome?  According to my agent, since the two cruises are linked, the OBC will.....so wondering about the unused coffees....

  6. In the last three cruises, we have only had to wait a few minutes for a table in Anytime dining.  We share the table, always, and in most cases do not have to wait.  We do tend to eat later.....around 8ish, sometimes a bit later but always in time to get to the late show if we want to attend.

The biggest plus for me with anytime dining is the number of really interesting and charming people we meet at our tables.  We tend to be outgoing, and love talking with others about their cruises and experiences.

  7. 3:50PM today

Royal Princess 12/15/18 to 12/22/18 eastern Caribbean Princess Cays, St. Thomas, St. Maarten

$999 minisuite front of ship for one passenger, cabin is selected by Princess but earlier today when you could pick your own, the only available cabin there was L106, front of the ship, large balcony. I would take it but I'm already on this cruise in L105 on the other side.

    Hope someone can grab this!

  8. My favorite shop for souvenirs in Barcelona is La Manual Alpargatera. A very old shop that sells handmade espadrilles for men, women and children. It is in the old quarter and always busy. The infant and children’s are adorable.

They are closed for lunch, but you can check address and hours on website.

My nieces and daughters loved theirs. They are very lightweight and flat so perfect to pack. Plus they are at least half the price that you will pay in the states!

My favorite tour is one done by an expat Brit on the Spanish civil war. It winds thru the old quarter for about two or three hours. He s very knowledgeable about the history. The guys love it. He has a website, also and is extremely highly rated.

Enjoy Barcelona....it is a great city.

  9. Thanks all. I believe I will have to file with my medical insurance and the the others. Princess or United. I will call United tomorrow to verify whether they are primary or not.

Having read thru another posting (not under Princess), I am gathering that a GeoBlue policy might be the way to go.....I will look into that for the next cruise outside the US.

    Thanks all!

  10. I usually get the Princess travel insurance and have questions as to what it covers under medical expense.

For example, if I get a bad cold or have another illness onboard and visit the ships doctor, are those fees and any Rx issued covered under insurance?

I will be in Europe, so my domestic insurance doesn’t cover it. I am in excellent health and have no “preexisting conditions”. And if I were younger, would never be concerned....but time is creeping up [emoji3]

I have added a supplemental policy thru United that increases coverage for medical, evacuation and repatriation just in case.

But my question is for the more mundane illnesses that might crop up.

Does anyone have experience with filing claims etc.

Most questions on Princess coverage on this blog pertain to cancellation, interruption etc. Not interested in that part.

Thanks for any insights you have.

  11. I am cruising on Crown in three weeks in the Med. This is the first time I will be in an ocean view cabin.

I have two questions that I hope the CC community can help with.

How are the Emerald deck aft cabins size? The website lists a large sq footage range. Also, what is the twin bed direction? By window or wall. If wall which direction.

How is the humidity in the cabin. I am from the south and prefer a pretty high humidity to sleep well. In the past I have opened the balcony door. But that is not an option here. And the shower on hot is probably not enuf.

I know....I know, but I do snore and the dryness makes it worse. Trying to save my BF sleep quality.

I have a small portable humidifier that I can take if needed. Needs electricity, but I can bring ext cord. Just hate to take up luggage room.

    Opinions?

  12. They are not a big deal at all.

I did run across this once. I believe it was on the Royal TA this spring.

I have to disagree with prior post as most of his deserts are to die for. The domed mousse cakes are by far the best. And this is what was on the buffet, otherwise I might not have noticed.

It was a taste of heaven before dreamland. [emoji7]
