  1. BVE = Bon Voyage Experience.

Princess offers this from specific US ports (to name a few: Fort Lauderdale, NYC, LA, several others)

If you look at the schedule that's available on the first page...it shows the dates offered, the ships and the port.

BVE costs $39pp. If you book a cruise within 90 days (IIRC), the $39 is deducted from the cruise fare.

The BVE entitles you to board the ship before almost everyone else, lunch in the MDR with a glass of wine, a guided tour (or you can choose to DIY), the pool if you want ;), food at any open venue, etc. You're essentially a passenger for the time of boarding until about an hour before they close the gate.

In addition, since you're a "passenger", you can purchase Future Cruise Deposits (FCD). $100pp as a future deposit (that's your total deposit when you book a cruise) and you'll get On Board Credit for doing it. Great deal!!

BVEs are waaay fun. If you know someone who is going on the sailing and book the BVE (many cruisers pay the fee for the guest as a gift), the person who is cruising gets to board with you :D. That's why some will pay for the BVE as a gift.

We've done it both ways. Independently and paid for our son as a thank you for driving us to the port.

    Thanks!

  2. I just got off phone and changed over to the 3 for free. Cabin price dropped $1100 + Free Gratuities + $1000 OBC ($500 from TA, $500 from FCD, Referral, Promo).

Btw, there is a "Great Escapes Sale" starting Sept 12 for Fall 2017 - Spring 2018

  3. Hotel Tourville in the 7th.......easy walk to Invalid, Champs de Mar, Eiffel Tour. Quiet very upscale neighborhood, plenty of bakeries, restaurants on Rue Cler. Between two metro stops that connect to the rest of Paris. 10 minutes to St. Germaine and shopping......very Parisienne.

  4. Just booked So Pacific and New Zealand in fall 2018 on Majestic. The Fjordland National Park is included. Have not sailed on the Sun, however, sailed Majestic in May before she went to China. She is a beautiful ship. No contest for me. Had DB on Caribe. She is very large, so if you want a smaller ship you might prefer Sun.

  5. As I understand it, the cruise card when used to open a cabin door did not have to be inserted into a slot, just brought near the detection device on the door.

Do you know what was the situation with slot machines? Insert the card into a slot or bring it near a detection device?

    Thanks

You must insert the card. If you are sailing soon, would you please retrieve some $$$$ I inadvertently left in the Dancing Drums slot machine?

  6. On the Majestic on May, I bought a coffee card. It ead a pspercard that they punched. No name on it, but the ship is noted on back. It can be used on another cruise if punches are left. However, the free unlimited brewed coffee dies not carry to new ship any longer. Don't think it has changed.

  7. I agree with the posts that suggest a freighter. Reports are that they are a great, modest, lean way to travel. I agree, also, with a few other posters that cruising is not for you. Can I add on a personal note that I will be cruising to Nova Scotia this fall, Australia next winter and the Baltics in the summer. I am sooooo looking forward to meeting new folks, enjoying my room service breakfast, and the creations the hard working chefs and cooks plan and prepare for us. I find the portions in the dining rooms quite adequate for a healthy diet.

But I am curious to know which of the following do you find objectionable: laute, studiose, nimis, ardenter, praeprotere, or perhaps all? I recommend to you the writings of St. Augustus Liguoria on the subject. Most informative.

Good luck in your search for a sea experience that you find 100% to your liking. I am sure it will be on the line that provides unicorns in your stateroom for an up charge. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

  8. I sailed on the Majestic this past May in the Med. Wonderful ship! You will enjoy it. I was in C507. The lifeboats were used in some ports as tenders (both port and starboard side). The aft boats on both sides were in use and I could sometimes hear them in my stateroom. As I recall only once did I look out and the one to my right had been put in service. Usually they were farther towards the aft. The noise was very faint, but if you are a light sleeper or a late sleeper it might disturb. When on my balcony having coffee was more pronounced. Lasted maybe 5 minutes per boat.

  9. I bought 100 shares in my IRA, faxed a copy to number and had my credit the next day......sold stock made a few dollars over commission. At today's price, should have kept it ! But will buy again before my next cruise. $250 free [emoji383] Great benefit.

  10. Are there dining cars on the train or food vendors ?

There was a club/bar car on train from Rome yo Venice in 2001. Probably hasn't changed. This is a very busy route with lits if commuters as well as tourists.

  11. You have made a great choice for your hotel. I stayed there last January and they are very helpful at the front desk. Do take a taxi just a few steps across the Piazza. The cobblestones are murder even with wheeled luggage, but easily done. The front desk will also book your ticket for you for a very few extra Euros if you find the train website confusing. The fast trains run frequently and you can choose your seat online. The food/drink on the train is snackish. However, straight across the square from you hotel is a lovely "deli" in the front part of the meat store. They make delicious panini to go and I highly recommend them. They are sold by the pound if I remember. Also have drinks and wonderful pastries. You can have those on the train.

Finally, (whew) do not miss the roof top bar on at the Senato. If you are lucky, you will be up there almost eye level when the church bells ring.

    Perfect Rome!

  12. I agree that you do not need a guide for The Borghese. The Bernini Rape of Persephone is the most exquisite sculpture I have ever seen........not to be missed!

The Caravaggios are impressive, but if you are a fan, you should go to the Church is Sst Luigi Francesco near the Parthenon and Piazza Navonna. (Free or small contribution).

The Capitoline is wonderful, also. But all of this will be impossible to do in one day.....

It took my third trip to Rome to get to The Capitoline. Marcus Aurelius on his horse in bronze is remarkable. A Brueghel was hidden in a corner as if it were a Peter Max.
