  1. John Heald just posted the following on his FB page:

"For those of you sailing during the Super Bowl in February the game will be shown as usual on the Lido big screens and in the main theatre and will be preceded by a huge party"

So yup, you'll be able to watch the Super Bowl!

  2. I always write a review when we return from a trip and it invariably happens that someone poses a question that had I known the question in advance of the cruise I could have researched onboard and gotten the answer. So, with that in mind does anyone have any questions about Glory? I'll do my best to find out the answer and return to this thread with the answer when we return (you'll just have to wait a few weeks for the answer:)).

Is there an Asian food section on the buffet line?

  3. We have a long day in port, which is a good thing! We're planning on taking the ferry over to the Bacardi factory for a tour - is there anything else in that general vicinity to do? The plan is to head back to tour the forts later in the day.

    thanks,

  4. You really want "Miami" check out el rinconcito de santa barbara 2050 W 56th St #33, Hialeah, FL 33016. It is my favorite Cuban place in town. its actually a mix of Cuban and Puerto Rican.

Also, any reason for quick and close if you are there for two nights? Already have everything else set for the other days you are there?

We're landing at FLL around 5:30pm on Thursday evening, then getting a car and driving to the Miami hotel, and I'm thinking we're going to just chill at the hotel that evening with take out. The next morning we're driving to John Pennekamp State Park to take a glass bottom boat tour, and maybe driving down towards Key West - just to look around. We have no plans Friday evening yet - any suggestions? Saturday morning, we return the rental to MIA and take the free shuttle to the port!

  5. Is there anything in particular that you're looking for? I just got back from a back to back on Glory last week.

Nope, I just like to see what's coming up - it's fun to do a little preplanning! If you have the Eastern FunTimes, and can scan them, I would really love to see them.

So, any tips? What did you like best? How bad was the smoke in the casino? How is the Serenity deck? We're looking forward to boarding for the Christmas cruise - did you like the decorations onboard?

  6. So, we're arriving in Miami for a two night stay before our cruise next Saturday, and are staying at a hotel out by the airport. We'll have a car, and we're looking for a Cuban place to grab some authentic food that's not fancy, and near the airport. Any thoughts? Carry out is fine, or a small local joint - we're looking for where the locals eat!

    thanks,

  7. I decided to go with the new towneplace suites but made sure I got a booking that I can cancel so if the reviews are horrible after it's open I can always change hotels.

I booked this hotel for our precruise next week, so I'm happy to come back after the new year and let you know what we thought! We did a Priceline ExpressDeal, and got it for $75 a night!

  8. Sure. The rental car companies provide a free shuttle from the airport to the cruise port. You need to show proof that you returned a rental car (airport to cruise port) or that you have a reservation (cruise port to airport). We opted for a cab going back to the airport because of the number of people using the shuttle (flat rate of $27).

We are doing this, as well! Renting a car from FLL (where we land on Thursday evening) and returning it on Saturday morning, then taking the free shuttle to the port. When we dock the following Saturday, we're taking the free shuttle back to MIA to pick up a rental car to drive to MCO, where our kids are picking us up. I know we have to show proof of our rental to get on the shuttle both ways - I'm glad to hear confirmation of this shuttle!

  9. I think the easiest thing to do would be to check in at the later time with your friends. Or, they can board a bit earlier and be ready to greet you onboard with a frosty DOD!

Trying to see if you can check in early with them may work, but it might not, and that's likely to be an awkward way to start your trip. Save yourself any stress and choose one of the other options, and have a great time!

  10. We're arriving Thursday evening into FLL for a Saturday cruise out of POM, so we thought about renting a car at the airport to tour around the area on Friday, then drive to the port on Saturday morning. Has anyone done this? We usually rent from National, but I'd really like to drop the car off at the port, so we can shuttle from the rental agency to the ship.

    thanks in advance,

  11. As noted by others, short of changing cruise lines, there isn't much you can do. The only ships that allow children in swim diapers into specially designed water areas are the Disney ships, and the RCI Freedom, Oasis, and Quantum class ships. This is a USPH regulation, not just something Carnival has decided.

When others suggest a blow up "pool", what they really mean is a blow up "tub". Pools can be 4-5' in diameter and take up too much room on deck. A blow up tub is only about the size of the little guy's butt and outstretched legs, and if placed in an out of the way area on deck is usually tolerated. Fill it from the showers on the pool deck, and dump it down a deck drain.

I think this one would be perfect for your little one: https://www.amazon.com/Intex-Dinosaur-Ring-Baby-Pool/dp/B01N3BBV36/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_21_lp_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=SDHYSBXKTJ2YS77P4KRX

  12. Has anyone ever taken the Tri Rail train from FLL to MIA before a cruise? We're flying into FLL the day before our cruise, and the hotel we're thinking of staying at has a free shuttle from the MIA airport. Just curious if anyone else has done this - it's just myself and my DH, and we will have one rolling suitcase apiece.

    thanks!

  13. hi there. My girlfriend and I are curteous people and would like to know more about chair saving etiquette in the serenity area on Vista. Can we leave our stuff on our chair if we go for lunch for 30-45 minutes? Or go for a walk for half an hour? And if we arrive around 730 to tan for the day is the section empty or already lots of towels put down on chairs? Thanks.

I think it's very nice of you to ask! I would suggest that you not do this, because you may lose your stuff - the past few times I've been on a ship with a Serenity desk, the attendants were very proactive about removing items from 'saved' chairs after the posted time limit had been reached. I like the suggestion that one of you stay put while the other grabs lunch, though - that's what we do.

  14. I believe the stated reason is to allow for better vision from the bridge. A more practical reason, however, is those decks are not private. With lights on at night, people can see in. My understanding is the windows have one-way film on them that keep people from seeing in during the day.

These cabins don't have anything like a deck or a walkway in front of them - they are as far forward as you can get. No one can see in, unless you're docked and someone on the shore is looking up, and even then, they can't really see it, because the rooms are so far up. The reason you're supposed to keep the curtains closed (or the lights off) is that the light spill can interfere with the bridge's sight. But it's not to keep folks from looking in. Some people think that because there's a railing in front of the windows, that means that passengers can walk in front, but those are for the workers who clean the windows. Now, if you want to give THEM a show . . . but they are absolutely not working at night. So you can be in the cabin with the curtains open in the evening, as long as you don't turn on all the lights. What a way to look at the stars!

  15. I've sailed with Carnival, Celebrity, Princess, RCL and Norwegian. Bang for the buck, I'll go with Carnival every time. And I've never had a bad experience on a Carnival ship that I couldn't look to one of my other cruises on a different line and match (misbehaving children, drunks being annoying, tender issues, minor cabin concerns). I have found my Carnival cruises to be fun, engaging, and affordable. I do my homework, choose a cabin that suits my needs (quiet, spacious, not under anything noisy), make myself aware of the layout of the ship before I embark so I know where the adult areas are, what the little tips and tricks you can find on this forum are for my ship, do some research about the ports, and go onboard with a positive attitude and a grateful heart - I'm darn lucky to be able to vacation like this! I don't worry much about loyalty programs - I don't really need any recognition or perks (although I never mind if someone wants to buy me a drink!).
