I recommend the pre-cruise land tour. You get to relax after the hopping around on land. For us first timers, I liked the cruise's land tour. I didn't need to do any planning or worry about transportation etc. We arranged private excursions like Denali ATV. It depends on your comfort level.

We were on this excursion in June.

The Kenai Fjords excursion is awesome. Since we stayed at the Kenai Princess lodge which is a long way from Seward, we booked the excursion through Princess. Not to be missed, you will see whales, orcas, puffins etc.

Loved Club Class on the Majestic. Having the dining section was so convenient, never had to worry about getting a table, had the same servers the entire trip. Really liked the larger stateroom with the sofa area and the bathtub! At disembarkation we were in a separate room to wait for our debarkation time. Nice touch! We chose not to receive the canapĂŠs each day. Going forward, plan to book only club class!

Advise re: Juneau Mendenhall Glacier tour

Have you looked into private tours? We did the Alaska Shore Excursions Mendenhall canoe trip. You canoe close to the glacier. It's an amazing way to see the glacier and Nugget falls from a different perspective! -
We did a Princess land tour from Fairbanks to Kenai and Whittier. We feel we got a great view of Alaskaâs interior that you donât receive with just the cruise. Kenai with a fjords tour is highly recommended. Then relax on the cruise after the land tour!

Yes, it was a panicky hour! I was texting our TA trying to see which was the next ship heading south so we could join it if we were quarantined in Anchorage. Changed out the NK 95 each day.

We wore the Kn95 masks. Our DD wore a cloth one. She developed the dreaded sore throat first, then cough. We did a home test in Kenai and she was positive. The health clerk swabbed us but only the beginning of the nose, not way up the nostril. We were all negative according to that! My advice is wear the Kn95. We did on the busses and on the ship when walking around.

Next to the Fairbanks lodge is the Pike's Landing restaurant. However, we were there on Father's Day and it was packed with a long line outside. They were understaffed and slow, I gave up and returned to the room and my DH and DD stayed. We took the bus to Talkeetna from the lodge. It was a hot and dusty day, just walked around the town. The McKinley lodge to Kenai was long but we stopped in Anchorage for lunch on your own. We did the Snowy City Cafe. Delish! We tested. before the land tour and were tested the day before boarding the ship. Majority of folks didn't wear masks on the bus.

We did this tour in June. Fairbanks to Kenai. Fairbanks tours to Fox: Pipeline and Gold Dredge 8 were informative. Loved the Discovery riverboat along the Chena-bush plane take off and landing, seeing the Iditarod huskies run and visit a native village. Denali park is massive. Saw all the âBig fiveâ animals and enjoyed the Tundra tour. Mt.McKinley lodge and saw the Mountain! Kenai is the coziest lodge, right on the river. The Kenai Fjords trip is not to be missed. We didnât have the food package but it wasnât expensive to eat on our own.Favorite was Fanny Gâs at Denali. Stop for lunch in Anchorage. Donât miss Snowy City cafe. At Kenai the outdoor restaurant was lovely.

We did the cruise tour first, from Fairbanks to Kenai. The lodges were great, with Denali the most centrally located one. So nice not to have to worry about renting a car, gas, etc. They took care of everything. Definitely go to Kenai, the fjords tour is worth it to see so many sea animals up close. After the hustle and bustle of getting to lodges and on transportation, the cruise is so relaxing. The Princess 'Voyage of the Glaciers' includes both Hubbard and Glacier Bay. We had a club class mini-suite and loved eating in the club class area of the MDR. I recommend you read Steelers36 trip report. I did as it is so informative!

In Haines you can book the Steve Kroshel Wildlife preserve through Princess. It is awesome and you will see and touch the animals. You can take the gray city shuttle into 'town' and be sure and stop at the Fog Cutters bar! -
Hop On Hop Off bus yes or no?

We did the HOHO in Vancouver last month. We only had two days there, so this was a great option when we disembarked. You get a great overview the city highlights and get a good idea of where you would like to get off at or return to later. Our trip ended in Gastown and we wandered around there and had a delicious lunch at the Blarney pub. -
Alaska Shore Excursions Mendenhall canoe trip is worth checking out. It is quite a sensation to by canoeing on the water and getting close to the glacier.
-
In Fairbanks a visit to Fox to see the pipeline and the Gold Dredge 8 for gold panning. The Discovery riverboat cruise is awesome with a knowledgeable narrative and view of the huskies and a visit to a native village. Check out the Princess lodges they are clean. We werenât impressed by Talkeetna, it was very hot and dusty there. While in Anchorage, the Snowy City cafe has great food and your Kenai Fjords tour will be a highlight for you.
