  1. Agree with those who recommend an itinerary with both glaciers. I was very impressed with Hubbard glacier. It is massive and mesmerizing with the thunderous calving. Glacier bay has lots of glaciers but IMHO, Hubbard was tops. We had glorious sunny days for both. I later heard it was foggy in Hubbard bay and were minutes from not going when another ship informed the captain that it cleared up closer in. This was two days after the NCL ship had a run in with an iceberg 🤣
  2. Fairbanks to Denali was on the domed train. Breakfast aboard and beautiful scenery. Motor coach to Mt.McKinley and 1/2 hour bus to Talkeetna. Longest motor coach ride was from Mt. McKinley to Kenai. Short ride from Kenai to Whittier. My husband and I wore Kn95 masks, most people did not wear masks at lodges and on train/motor coaches. Our adult daughter wore a cloth one. We brought tests and she tested positive with that one, however, when tested by the health tech, she was negative. Yes, it is hectic packing and repacking, but then it is so relaxing to get on the ship and only unpack once for the cruise🛳
  3. You will love Alaska. Are you doing a land tour?
  4. Haines was a tender port disembarking but not on embarkation for us last month. Those who booked Skagway through Princess were taken by ferry to Skagway for their already booked excursions.
  5. We did the Off the Beaten path land tour. It was so nice to have all accommodations and transport between lodges taken care of. Fairbanks, Denali, Mt.McKinley and Kenai. The lodges and staff were welcoming and helpful.
  6. You will love the Majestic, she is a beautiful ship. We enjoyed the Conservatory in the front of the ship. It is a peaceful place with windows all around. There are laundry facilities on each passenger deck. What type of a stateroom did you book?
  7. Haines is a great port stop instead of Skagway. It’s an authentic Alaskan town with many excursions. It is a tender port that was assigned to us on the Majestic last month when the slide prevented us from going to Skagway.

    Haines

Haines is such a quaint Alaskan town. You get a feel of life there. Our bus driver to the Kroschel preserve teaches there and talked about how everyone knows one another. There is a free shuttle that takes you into town. Don’t miss stopping in the Fog Cutters bar to meet the locals!
  9. You must do the interior of Alaska. You will get so much more of a sense of the state and its uniqueness than just doing the cruise. I liken it to a foreigner who does a cruise of California: San Diego, LA and San Fran ports and says he/she has seen California. That person missed Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, the Sequoias, Palm Springs. That visitor only got a small taste of what the state is like. We returned on July 4th from a land tour then cruise, Fairbanks to Whittier. We enjoyed being taken to all the stops along the way: tour of Fairbanks, pipeline, gold panning, Discover riverboat, train to Denali. Enjoyed the train ride the scenery was beautiful. 2 nights at Denali lodge, we were on the second floor on the Solstice. Tundra wildernesses tour and then an atv trip. Onward by coach to McKinley Princess, saw Denali! Quick visit to Talkeetna, hot and dusty. Coach to Kenai with lunch at Snow City cafe in Anchorage. Kenai rustic and cozy, by a river, wonderful. Kenai Fjords tour was a highlight. Do the land tour, you will be safe and so glad you did!
  10. We are not Elite, but in Club class mini suite we were offered canapés on request. Didn’t use the service though.
  11. I stand corrected. We never used the app as we heard horror stories🤣
  12. We booked our excursions with private companies. They know they will go out of business if they get cruisers and the ship has left! Think Yelp, Trip Advisor! We loved Alaska Shore Excursions Mendenhall canoe trip.
  13. Denali ATV is an awesome second day excursion! I highly recommend. pour bus driver last month told us the park doesn’t even have a contractor set up to fix the road, so can’t imagine the road being fixed for a loooong time.
  14. Loved our mini suite, the extra room, the sofa, the tub to relax in. Go for it!
  15. Last month we just used the medallion to open our state room door. We ordered room service from the tv. We read all the horror stories about how it was so frustrating that we didn’t try it for anything else.
  16. We did the land cruise first last month. Tested at last lodge and good to go. It is very busy going lodge to lodge, so it was soooo relaxing to be in one place when we then went on cruise. Hopefully, next year Covid won’t be such a problem. Look how much it has changed since last summer!
  17. This is horrible! I am already worried for our cruise on the Caribbean in October 2023. What cabin were you in?
  18. Enjoy your cruise! We were on the Majestic last month and loved it!
  19. You perfectly described the ambiance at the Kenai Princess lodge. Both nights we opted to eat dinner on the deck with the beautiful view of the mountains. The rooms have a rustic flair and are quite comfortable with good sized decks. Cozy and quaint. Perfect way to end a land tour before boarding the ship. Remember to take their Kenai Fjords tour!
  20. Agree with Voljeep. Purchase the tokens beforehand because sometimes the machine breaks or runs out of tokens.
  21. Read other reviews to get an idea. It was four hours, two hours on the lake. our guides were insightful and funny. You do need to paddle though the guides do the steering. It was such a closeup experience. It was a highlight for the three of us.
  22. Alaska Shore Excursions has the Mendenhall canoe trip. We did it two weeks ago, highlight of trip. On the water, paddlinhpg to the glacier, spray of Nugget Falls. Incredible 🛶
  23. We were tested at the Kenai Princess two days before the cruise in Whittier. A health tech swabbed us.
  24. I didn’t think the mosquitoes were that big when we were there two weeks ago. The long legged ones were are used to are bigger. These just fly around and bug you. We bought Alpenglow, an Alaska made product to use. But, make sure you rub your repellent on before wearing leggings. They bite through that material and our daughter was their target🦟🦟
  25. Totally agree with a Kenai Fjords tour! A highlight of the trip 🐳🦭
