  1. I hoped that with the time off Royal would have revamped the Quest (and some of the trivia) just a little.

It is still the same. Silly requests, Shania Twain at the end, men strutting around in lipstick and heels.

It's  just a little tired and predictable.

How about some new things thrown in?

  2. Was on Indy, November and had a very large group with speakers at the Solarium. No one said anything to them. Felt more like a club than an adult area pool. I wish everyone could learn that musical taste is personal) not everyone likes to hear your type of music. Next was Mariner, early December. An officer (a young Ukranian woman?) was having none of the nonsense. I watched her approach 3 different groups at the solarium pool throughout the day to have them

lower or shut off their speakers. Not only that but she then approached two families at different times, one for having a baby in a stroller parked poolside and another time to remove a child and the family from the solarium hot tub. Good for her!

  3. I have never heard this complaint from any crew member for as long as I have been sailing.  Over time we have become friendly with many of the crew on many Royal ships and I have never had any of them tell me they were "starving" I have heard them say that the food is  bland, tasteless and much the same every day. Lots of rice, vegetables, bread and pasta. Maybe the crew member was just missing food from home and was having a hard time adjusting to the food choices. That would show poorly of Royal to "starve" their people. Don't you think?

  4. The last few years have been especially hard on the kids. Now they are acting like, well, kids.

Cruising as a teen or tween can sometimes be boring if there is not teen or tween things going on to interest them. (especially at night). On our last Symphony cruise we saw quite a few kids bored out of their minds at the house band evening show at Dazzles. Most of those kids had no idea about the music being played. Why would they? Some of those songs are 30 years old!

We watched a few try to get into the RED nightclub as well. I felt bad for them. (I remember trying those same tricks when I was underage.) They are just looking to be entertained like the adults.

I'm not defending making bad choices, such as screaming out the lyrics to "Golddigger" by Kanye West while running down the hall (This really did happen and if you know this song, it is NOT acceptable to be screaming out the lyrics like a fool) But I do try to cut the kids some slack. It's not easy trying to figure it all out in this world today.

  5. 2 hours ago, island lady said:

OMG!!   What a hilarious and creative advertising program they came out with!!   😂

Sounds awfully tempting after the "free range children" episode we had on Harmony a couple of weeks ago.  Ughh.... little "darlings" were out of control all week, and even had to have cabin attendant disconnect our cabin door bell since they were running the hallways all night long, and kept ringing our door bell for a joke, waking me up all hours of the night.  😡

I prefer the term "feral children"

  6. Just got off the 8 day symphony.

I have never seen so many kids (many of them coughing & sneezing)

I would guess less than 10% in masks, more worn in the casino than anywhere else on the ship.

The elevators were overpacked and people just kept piling in.

Buffet at Windjammer was very crowded and all self serve. (however, everyone seemed patient and kind)

The crowds are back-some people have forgotten how to act in public.

Was told by multiple workers that we were under 90% capacity.

We got an extra day due to the storm and it seemed that just about everyone was happy about it.

  7. Everyone should be able to handle the covid pandemic as THEY see fit at this point. If you are comfortable wearing a mask on the ship than by all means do so. If you are comfortable without one than by all means go for it. Who cares what everyone else is doing? as long as you feel relatively safe and comfortable on the cruise you paid for I believe each person should be free to deal with it as they see fit. Who am I to say if someone should just "stay home" I don't judge mask wearers or non maskers. We all luckily have our individual freedom back, and be lucky enough to finally get back to what we love doing-cruising!

  8. I always try to remember that while reaching out to the future guests, the Genies are still working with their current guests on board.

    They are the priority.

Emails during that time can be spotty and overly formal.

Once onboard you get to see the true personality of your Genie and they get to see yours.

I have learned that the best time to speak with them is while being escorted to your cabin.

At that time you have their full attention.

They have others who work with them on the ship to make sure you get everything (within reason) that you ask for. Things can be arranged short notice and changes by the guest are mostly if not always arranged.

  9. I am always amazed at how perfect the Genies look! they run ragged all day, are not allotted much sleep and yet always look like they have stepped out of GQ magazine! Only 2 of our Genies have been females. One got married and retired. and the other is still a Genie. (She always wore 6 inch heels and made it look easy, even when climbing up and down the stairs!) You will see with Allan what I mean. Have fun and get ready to be soooo spoiled!

  10. Which Allan?

email him the day before and ask for an order from playmakers.

Ask for whatever you want and they will most likely get it for you. snacks delivered to your cabin. you can have drinks delivered to the cabin. They will deliver a cake for the birthday girl! If you want to eat lobster in the cabin, they will have it delivered. We are always in touch by the whats app? so we can get text our genie and they text back very quickly.  They are more than helpful, you will love  him and then you will have to leave him. Once  you have a genie it is hard to say goodbye!

  11. Truthfully, there are a lot of hoops to go through to get on the ship. Even with all of the best intentions you can still not make it onboard due to test results or paperwork glitches. I don't know if people are all willing to do that for a cruise right now. honestly, I was terrified that I would show a positive test result 2 days before getting onboard. Mind you, we go nowhere, see practically no one, haven't been to an inside restaurant in over 16mos. and mask up every time we are inside any store or building. I just miss cruising so bad that until I was fully on the ship I didn't believe it would happen!

  12. Just returned from a Monday night through Friday morn. cruise to Coco Cay, Nassau and a sea day.

The Windjammer was closed for dinner every night.

I was told by the crew that there were only 1,167 guests on board.

The ship was like a ghost ship. Odd to see the promenade empty at 9:00pm.

Minimal entertainment options in the evening.

The crew were wonderful. Hard working and pleasant (even though they were masked).

The cabins were spotless, and cleaning was constant throughout the ship.

Coco Cay was empty, even though Freedom sat along side us. (it was there 2nd day at the Cay, and it looked as though many stayed onboard)

Vaccinated only events were not checked. (although I don't know how they could really enforce them.)

Social distancing, especially at night was lax. (that's alcohol for ya!)

Loved how the Windjammer now works. No touching! Not even a plate or silverware! Everything is handed to you!

So happy to get back to cruising, but miss all the people and the excitement that surrounds a bustling  Royal Caribbean ship.

Would and are definitely doing it again in November!

  13. While I commend Royal Caribbeans new measures for taking the temperatures of all passengers before getting on the ship,

I just want to say something about my recent Feb. 28th cruise on Mariner of the Seas.

When we docked at Coco Cay the Navigator was also there. After our return back on the ship at we headed up to the Windjammer

for a snack. We overheard one worker telling the other that he had to get back on over to the Navigator and that he would see them soon.

There is also a You Tuber who works on Oasis ( i believe) who has posted a video of himself on March 6th hanging out at the beach on Coco Cay

with an employee of Navigator who was also docked there.

So, my comment is that it seems that cross contamination by employees from ship to ship is a real (if slight) possibility.

If the sickness can be brought on the ship by passengers, isn't there also a chance of cross contamination from employees going from one ship

to the other?  And wouldn't  it be prudent at this time to maybe curtail  ship to ship socialization?

This is just a thought on my part, Our cruise was lovely, we did not get sick, in fact, other than  passengers with hangovers I did not see anyone who looked

even remotely ill. Everyone looked healthy and happy to be there.

We are cruising again in April.
