Am I crazy? Book Mariner instead of Wonder.
OCSC Mike replied to RoperDK's topic in Royal Caribbean International
I won't say NO chance but as a frugal creature of habit who prefers knowing the ins and outs over trying new things and is approaching D+ (we'll be 7 pts away after our June cruise), probably not. That said, we can usually only cruise 1-2 times per year and have a nice chunk of time before that changes (barring a lottery win) so anything is possible further into the future. Now if any of my wife's friends who have fairly high positions at Disney (one in particular is quite high up in their IT department) are ever able to bring us on one of those Disney cruises they occasionally get to take at extremely discounted rates, we're there. 🤣 -

We had been on almost nothing but Oasis class for years, then spent 11 nights on Indy between July and October. We hung out on the helipad for sail away but we enjoyed spending some time in the DL up in the crown which is definitely preferable to the windowless DL's in the "basement" on most Oasis class ships. And I can't stand the centrum compared to the promenade. I feel claustrophobic (not literally) if I don't have a promenade. Different strokes... -

Care to share any specific favorite parts of Wonder? I think I've made it clear that I'm not concerned. I can guarantee I'll have a great time and enjoy plenty of food & drink like every other cruise I've ever taken, I just have a lot of free time right now and like reading opinions. -

Yuck. Think I'll let the family discover that on their own. Also sounds like an added excuse for me to head elsewhere and eat in between family meals (which I'd do anyway) or develop a drinking problem with some free SL beer/Truly. 🤣 -
Never tried Portside BBQ but my wife and I love the burgers and garlic parm fries at Playmakes. Onion rings are great too and I'm a big fan of their Goalpost margarita (jalapeno pineapple), not that you need to eat there to get a drink of course. People seem to really like the wings as well. Happy deciding!

Agreed, I don't care for any ship below Voyager class but obviously plenty do. Different strokes... -

Thanks for sharing. I'd wager money that I won't mind some of the things that bothered you but everyone has their own preferences, opinions, things that are important, etc. On the plus side for some of your complaints, we're being treated to a GS by my generous FIL so any lounging time will be spent on the suite sun deck. We never ever sit by the main pool on any ship when we're alone anyway, only the Solarium. The only time I'll spend by the pool on Wonder is when I go to grab food and/or a margarita from El Loco Fresh/attached bar. Oh, and I need to try a Lime & Coconut, not sure if the suite deck bar or others can make those or not. -
I can eat... a lot, lol. Between 11-3 on Coco Cay I may eat 3-4 separate times, not all at once, but by the time we leave I've probably had at least 1 chicken sandwich, 4-6 tacos, a funnel cake, and a cup of soft serve with chocolate chip cookies crumbled in it (my wife's dessert hack). The tacos are far less filling to me than sandwiches or funnel cake. We have a favorite spot by the pool that is a good walking distance from both Chill Grill and a snack shack. We like it for other reasons too (we can hear the DJ but we're not right by him) but the food venues definitely played a role. I gain about 10-11 lbs. on a 7-night cruise but a few lbs. are water weight that come right off and the rest only takes me about 2 weeks of going back to eating healthy at home to lose. Some combo of a good metabolism and the willpower to lose weight when I want to I guess. I'm not a big guy at all either. And just to be clear, I eat much healthier at home. A normal week is 5 nights of salad, some sort of lean protein, veggies, brown rice, etc. and 2 nights of eating whatever we want, usually going out or bringing in takeout. I'd like to do a live review from Wonder in June that would mostly be food & drink related but when I've started one in the past it's always seemed like too much work and I've given up by day 2. We'll see if I give it another shot.

On Board Credits refunded after sailing?
OCSC Mike replied to Bestvalue82's topic in Royal Caribbean International
It sure is! They have penny slots ya know... or at least take one spin on a quarter slot? 🤣 If we ever cross paths again, I'll trade you a banana for your leftover spare change. 😁 -
Yep, that's my other choice. We had a GS on that Harmony cruise I mentioned and were with extended family who wanted breakfast in CK every morning where I frequently got lox (sometimes in an omelet) so I was skipping it for my "pre-breakfast" trip to Park Cafe.

What exactly do you dislike about Wonder? Or love more about Mariner? I'm happy on any ship with a promenade or bigger, just curious since we'll be on Wonder in June. -
Wandering on the Wonder--A Semi-Live (Maybe) Review
OCSC Mike replied to crewsweeper's topic in Royal Caribbean International
I think he wants less kids, not more. 🤣 -
Park Cafe also usually has breakfast burritos. Never had one as I prefer their version of a McMuffin made with a runny fried egg (at least on Harmony last May/June).
-
I believe it's because they quickly added the El Loco menu when it was re-positioned from Florida to Galveston. Enough time to change the food, not enough to re-do the venue.

Harmony of the Seas - April 8-15 Review
OCSC Mike replied to squattie's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Not the OP but I had Sabor for dinner on Harmony last June and our entire extended family of 8 (some of whom don't even like Mexican food) all enjoyed it. The apps (chips and guac, jalapeno chicken popper type item, and calamari) were so good we re-ordered them several times... which worked out well b/c the entrees weren't as good (the burritos were tiny and weird; I'd get a steak next time). We all loved the desserts... churros and dessert chimichangas. Lastly, I enjoyed the jalapeno margarita. Not quite as good as my favorite Goalpost margarita from Playmakers (jalapeno pineapple) but very good if you like spicy. -
19 year old cruisers …Too old and too young
OCSC Mike replied to Cruzefam's topic in Royal Caribbean International
When you get much closer to sailing, I suggest asking if others are traveling with kids around that age in the roll call here and on your cruise's group page from another popular website that shall remain nameless. I see many kids "getting together" ahead of time using chat apps on the pages for my cruises. -
Diamond lounge on Symphony and the vouchers
OCSC Mike replied to travellerin1984's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Yeah, being "limited" to cheese and crackers on Indy wasn't the worst thing in the world. I just get distracted when there are appealing hot items like we had in the Harmony SL last year and I'd expect to find on Wonder in June. 😁 -
Diamond lounge on Symphony and the vouchers

They vary (like many things) greatly from ship to ship. They weren't very good on Indy in July or October. I can always find something though, even if it's just cheese and crackers. -
New tiny flyer up, chock full of awful prices except for maybe a few for Alaska.
-
She won't touch anything but tortilla/chips and cheese but thanks. I don't really expect her to want anything there anyway. I'm not picky and it's free so it's for me. I rarely get to eat Mexican at all so I take what I can get.
-
Which means my picky wife who doesn't eat Mexican or anything spicy will probably like them. 🤣
