  1. It may not always come across right, but I suspect most regular posters just want to help direct you to a place where you can get answers to your questions. Some posters don't like it when they post and don't get any responses...

When good discussions have occurred in the recent past, I think it's good to point them out to others since the same participants may not come back to post every time the question is asked again.

.....then again there are those of us who probably bug others to death by posting relatively the same answers to the same question time after time. ;p

YES , In a board such as this it is helpful if other cruise critic members refer you to a previous link of threads that may answer the question , but only if its from cruise critic.

However, If I wanted Trip advisor reviews or Rick Steves reviews I would go straight there.

And with all due respect, many of us, doe not spend our life on these boards, and have a major trip coming up so we come back to the boards, we ask a question, and even if its been asked before, I never think it is appropriate or helpful from those members who are apparently on these boards all the time to criticize or to even get annoyed. Annoyed for what? if you're annoyed , dont respond. Simple as that.

  2. There are a few ports, like Civitavecchia, that have a limited number of hotels, and a good number of cruisers who have experienced those hotels. Other ports, like Venice, have so many hotels to choose from that you might be lucky to find even one other cruiser who has stayed there, is a Cruise Critic member, and felt the urge to post a review.

Unfortunately I have found many critics on this board that are almost annoyed that someone “dares” to ask a question without getting , answers like “this has already been asked”go to trip advisor etc Lisa mc if I am lucky to get a previous Rialto hotel customer then great. Since it’s right at Rialto bridge I was thinking maybe someone had been there, but a lecture from other members is just not helpful. What are these boards for if not to ask and possibly get an answer?

  3. There isn’t room for taxis to wait more than a few minutes at the dock. You go to the desk in the arrivals area and they call one in for you and give you a voucher with the taxi’s number on it. You pay the operator.

So will the private taxi operator only take Euros or will they take a credit card?

  4. Why is it ludicrous? To some degree, you get what you paid for. You got a bargain, but are asking for the bells and whistles that likely go with a higher fare.

It’s ludicrous to have to pay to select a seat, I don’t care how good a fare it is. First it started with food, then baggage fees now pay to seat select, what’s next pay to go bathroom or extra for toilet paper use?

  5. The airlines are out of control... first with the food yeas ago, then the baggage fees . But at least at beginning of baggage fee pit was $25 not $100, and now this pay for seat selection on many European airlines and now some American ones as well, it’s just obscene

  6. Do you have a locator/reference number? You go online use your locator number and credit card.

No, I don’t seem to see a locator number. I called Lufthansa directly and they told me because it was booked a certain way by Princess , that makes the flight a UA flight operated by Lufthansa, even once it is ticketed I would not even be able to pay to select a seat. The way it’s booked I can only select a seat at that 23 hr before time, which seems ludicrous to me . Lufthansa told me that princess needs to rebook directly through Lufthansa and then and then only then could I buy to select earlier.

This all sounds crazy to me. I’ll have to call Princess , but I’ve got a good fare and I bet if they re book direct with a Lufthansa the fare increases.

  7. Thanks to all.

First unfortunately as one poster replied, I can not rethink my luggage, because Venice will only be the first stop of a 2 week trip first in Venice, then on to Rome for a few days then a cruise out of Rome, then some days in Athens.

I will look into the Alleguina for hotels that have a stop nearby . or perhaps splurge for a private water taxi

If I do take the train from Venice to Rome( rather than fly) how long is the trip and again how many bags can you bring on the train?

  8. Ok. So we are cruising next year out of Rome, but know thinking about first flying into Venice for a couple nights and then flying to Rome .

So first... We are two ppl, will both have an airline checked bag and a carry on. So we don't want alot of walking over several bridges to get to hotel.

I see the hotel Santa Chiara looks to be a possibility as you can actually get a taxi( auto) straight from VCE to hotel. So we like that. The pics look nice but its not completely what I though of when thinking about the quintisential Venice Hotel.

Possibly the Rialto Hotel near Rialto bridge, I see the water taxi from airport does stop close by . And that looks to be in an area I think of when I think of Venice.

Thoughts anyone. What hotels have you stayed at with minimal walking with your bags or practically none at all. Also, how is it getting bags into one of those water taxes from airport. Does someone help you with bags or do you drag it into taxi yourself.

Also, would you fly from Venice to Rome or take another method. I see flight look to be only around 55-60 one way[

  9. My suggestion is not to tempt fate...and there is no reason with the Princess system. Simply go onto the Princess web site WITHOUT logging in. Click on the "Plan a Cruise" tab and then use the search engine to locate your particular cruise, Once you have found your cruise (without logging into the Princess web site) simply click on "Cruise Details" and then the "Flight Quotes" tab. At this point you can look at various air scenarios without ever having signed -in and perhaps screwing up your current reservation. If you do find a better deal then you can always log-in and go through the normal process to change your flights.

    Thanks . Great suggestion

  10. Although you're asked to select seats during the eZAir booking process, that information never seems to pass through to United. Whenever I book United through eZAir, upon completion I go to the booking on the United site to do seat selection.

I just booked EZAire through United and going to UA site I see the seats we selected. Are you saying once ticketed this will just disappear?
