  1. Mr. SLSD and I have sailed on both Ovation and Encore, but, because we do not care for sushi, never tried the Sushi restaurant. On our upcoming cruise on Ovation, I am looking for alternative dining options. What does the Sushi restaurant offer aside from sushi? I like seviche, but Mr. SLSD does not. I'm hoping there is something on the menu--either lunch or dinner that we might enjoy. Thank you for any experience you might share.
  2. Markham, Are you sailing on Silversea now due to your disappointments? I read your original posts and heard you loud and clear. When is your next cruise and where?
  3. Does anyone have knowledge about the drinking water systems on Silversea and Regent?
  4. ALL the included wines are South African? That's unusual...
  5. Sometimes it's an issue concerning the type of food. If a person hasn't sailed on Seabourn previously, they might be expecting something different. Some say the food is too bland, while we often find it too salty--as another example. People have very different taste in food.
  6. I think the issue is that bottled drinking water used to be provided when getting off the ship--instead of the ship's water put into reusable bottles. The bottled drinking water was accessed in the same way they access other food/drink supplies---from trusted suppliers. I have known about this for a. while, but mentioned it to my husband for the first time yesterday. I couldn't remember Nordaq. I think we will just have to taste the water and see if we like it enough to drink when off the ship.
  7. Mr. SLSD has asked me to ask some questions. We sail on Ovation on June 11th and only today did I mention to him that the drinking water situation on Seabourn ships is now different from the last time we sailed (pre Covid). I told him I would try to elicit information and advice from intrepid cruisers. First, what is the system called that Seabourn is using to process drinking water? We assume the water is safe to drink, but does it taste pleasant or does it have a brackish or off taste? If you do not like the water, what are your suggestions? I have read in the past that some request bottled water in their suites and transfer this to their own water bottle for port excursions. I have read that provided bottles are heavy and that they leak. Can you tell us which bottled waters are available to request and what kind of water bottle do you suggest? Thanks so much. We ARE beginning to get excited about sailing again with SB.
  8. Shark B8, You have been a superlative travel host--never complaining--always seeing the bright side of every situation. Just the kind of person we all would enjoy sailing with. Traveling vicariously has been fun. I wish you and Mrs. Shark B8 a safe journey home and a joyous reunion with your pup and your kitten. We look forward to your next cruise!
  9. We are fifth generation Texans and also don't use the word ya'll outside of the state.
  10. I want to mention that the Clarandelle is a good choice. While not memorable, it is very drinkable and pleasant.
  11. Originally, Encore (sister ship of Ovation) debuted without a self serve laundry. Guests were understandably unhappy and it was added. Ovation has always had a self serve laundry.
  12. You are so kind to remember my posts from our Kobe to Vancouver cruise. We had a great time.
  13. Thanks for this. It brings back fond memories of our SB cruise in Alaska. I remember the song of the fog horns--I loved it. It is not something we hear in Texas. And yes, the turquoise blue SB jackets are a big garish. They are GOOD jackets, but a bit loud in terms of color. Black might be better, but I would prefer navy blue--if anyone asks. And also yes, tip tour guides generously in light of inflation when it comes to food prices.
  14. It varies by availability.
  15. I know. It's off topic, but a bit interesting. The rural area around our farm in deep East Texas is rife with religious organizations. If you drive through the back roads of the area, you will see them everywhere. I have always been a bit suspicious of them and thought they might just be "money making" organizations disguised as religious charities. The headquarters for Mercy Ships is on one of these back roads. I was suspicious of them as well--until a physician we know (a classmate of mine from childhood) told us that he had volunteered on one of their ships and that they do good work. We went to this same physician's wedding and the reception afterwards --which was catered by Mercy Ships! I went into the kitchen and talked to some of the catering staff and they told me that they also work on the ships. Their food, by the way, was quite good. OK. This is the end of a terribly off topic comment--brought on by a photo of a Mercy Ship ship off of the coast of Africa.
  16. The headquarters for Mercyships is just a couple of miles from our farm, deep in a rural landlocked area Texas. I've always found that surprising. The also run a catering opeation!
  17. I get it--as I am already sad that our upcoming cruise is only 14 days. I mentioned to Mr. SLSD just today that our next one needs to be at LEAST 21 days to make the whole thing worth it. He agreed with me. This is our test cruise post pandemic.
  18. I'm going to be sad when your World Cruise is over. Do you think you could just stay onboard indefinitely and keep us informed and entertained?
  19. Wow. What a heroic sculpture--but it does have the "communist" look to it. Not a criticism--just an observation.
  20. It is hard to know which items cannot be wet cleaned as their tags say dry clean only. I just think I won't be risking it. Since it is a dress I wear for dinner in the evenings, I doubt that I will need to worry about it--as I will only be wearing it for a few hours on several nights. As long as I am careful, I should be fine. I think womens' clothing as opposed to mens' clothing is so different when it comes to laundering. My husband 's shirts always go to what we call the "cleaners" here in the US--as do his pants/slacks and jackets. I do my own laundry at home except for dry clean items. Some might say--just buy things that can be washed and dried. I say--it is not that easy. It will all work out--with some effort on my part.
  21. Yes this is why I'll be doing my own laundry. So much of it I don't even put in the dryer on low heat. I always hang them--otherwise my pants end up too short (even shorter than the darn ankle style pants are supposed to be--and sometimes are on me anyway). I did order one of my long sleeved knit tops in a larger size so that maybe it COULD go through the laundry. Thanks for the tip of putting in large letters---LOW HEAT only. I also wonder if they separate lights and darks when washing.
