  1. Would you know if this meant the ship will have to go into dry dock to do the refurb? Thanks
  2. We were thinking of doing the Caribbean fly cruise with P&O, but with this change I very much doubt it now. We are all aware of cut backs, and not just by P&O, but I would hope/expect better in this case. There’s only so much you can take away before more customers say no.
  3. Yes I know P&O (and other cruise lines) lines are cutting everything, EVERYTHING to the bone, but I can’t believe for 1 minute they are not passing on each cabin’s gratuity. If they did, there would not be any staff, why would they work? It needs an undercover operation to find out, report on Panorama or whatever. In addition, we see more staff carrying out other duties around the ship, they’ll be appearing in the Headliners next. There must be incentive for the staff to stay?
  4. Yes thanks, just heard it was due to bad weather.
  5. Any suggestions why she was a bit late this morning?
  6. It appears Britannia will be some four hours late docking and unloading this morning as it’s currently near Hythe. Wonder why it’s late?
  7. I was looking at a Baltic cruise in July, but for some reason kept ooming and aaring on booking the thing. I saw there were a lot of balcony cabins still left which did not force me to rush, but to my very naive horror about 3 weeks before departure they had suddenly all gone. It was from asking the question ‘what happened’ on here that it appears those on savers must have been allocated the rooms, and there must have been a fair few of them. Three weeks isn’t a lot of time before a cruise, but I suppose it’s done so the company have every chance of capturing more people paying the select fare.
  8. That’s really good to hear. Perhaps we have just been unlucky, and just another differing account and experience to others.
  9. As the meal is part of the experience, I would just say the three meals I have had in Limelight Clubs on P&O have all been rank. Obviously just my experience though and the three acts were very good, thankfully!
  10. I saw a YT of someone who appeared to be experienced in maritime regulations etc, and the question from him was around the mooring ropes. It seems that there are various permutations in the number of, and how ropes are tied, depending on conditions etc. His observation seemed to suggest the ropes used at the time of the storm were wrongly set up, or inadequate. May be a case of wherever a ship is moored, if the wrong set up is used in extreme conditions, the outcome of the ship moving away from it’s mooring will largely be the same. Whatever happens to it thereafter is the unknown.
  11. From Estofex.org. Look at the Issue date. A level 3 is not given out lightly! European Storm Forecast Experiment Storm Forecast Valid: Sun 27 Aug 2023 06:00 to Mon 28 Aug 2023 06:00 UTC Issued: Sat 26 Aug 2023 17:06 Forecaster: TUSCHY A level 3 was issued for the Balearic Islands mainly for multiple rounds of all kind (extreme) severe events, including significant tornadoes, damaging winds and excessive rain.
  12. Of course, well spotted John. Getting it mixed up with my Iona’ and Arvia’s!
  13. Thanks. I was wondering are you happy with that in the circumstances? I can imagine with over 5,000 on board, there are a number who like to push the boundaries. Reception may be busier than normal hereon in!
  14. Have they made an offer they couldn’t refuse!?
  15. In no hurry to leave are they with that offer!
  16. I can’t imagine there is too much space in hotels this time of year. Nightmare!
  17. I’ve seen ‘hurtled’ as well 😂.
  18. I was on Iona last Autumn and our captain kept making us laugh calling the mooring lines ‘hairy bits of string’. Perhaps these ones were a bit frayed!
  19. Oh well. At least this will be talked about by many of you onboard for many years to come! Sometimes it’s not just the good times that are memory makers, but pleased everyone appears to be okay.
  20. That’s Fantastic! Vesselfinder my end still has it stationary. I must be on dial up still! Edit again. Closed the vesselfinder window, opened it again and now up to date!
  21. I really hope I’m wrong, but my end it still has the spot and suggests the ship is still stationary?
  22. Looks pretty destructive and thanks for posting. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some waterspouts with all that turbulence, lightning, wind and rain. Edit: just to keep those affected posted, the ship appears to be moored in the same place at this time. 🤞 she sets sail towards you soon!
  23. I hope this situation sorts itself out soon, for all of you. You might want to try vesselfinder.com, locate Britannia where you can see it’s up to date position and that may indicate before you find out verbally if it’s on it’s way to yourselves.
  24. I have been watching a website with a map showing lightning strikes. Looks and sounds terrible over there. With the lightning, that must have been some wind to drag Britannia away! The website suggesting the worst of the lightning at least has moved east and is over Menorca, just where my sister has landed! Take care of yourselves and hope normality returns soon. Expecting some coverage of this storm on the news perhaps.
