  1. Thank you everyone for your replies. I appreciate knowing the approximate cost of the taxi, which we will use. I do anticipate using the Tube while we are there, just not with luggage. Jane
  2. We will be arriving in London from Amsterdam on the Eurostar. Wondering how difficult it will be to secure a taxi from the train station to our Westminster hotel. Any ideas? Thank you for any suggestions.
  3. We regularly take the train from Albany to NYC. When we have luggage we use the redcap service at both ends of the trip. (You need to request it for the destination. Red cap at originating station will tell you who to request through.) There is an organized taxi stand outside of Penn Station on the corner of 8th and 31st. It is across 8th from Moynahan. Trains, most of them, that originate in Albany are nearly always on time. Those coming in from the north and west sometimes run late.
  4. Last July we found the concierge able to handle things like that. She also helped us arrange private car transportation for us atthe end of the cruise.
  5. Another idea - you could bring the train from Toronto. I believe that Amtrak now runs a daily train to/from Toronto. You be in Manhattan when you arrive with a variety of readily available transportation. I second the idea to arrive at least a day ahead.
  6. We did the Cunard tour to Peggy's Cove last year in early July. We were pleased with the tour even though the weather was NOT good. We had planned to walk down to the Maritime Museum and get lunch on the waterfront. Needless to say, we didn't do much outside that day. I would do the Peggy's Cove excursion again.
  7. When I am in Panama for the day in early February I'm touring to the Embera. I am using this group for the tour. Price depends on how many are in the group. This group welcomes you into their home. WONDERFUL. I used them a few years ago, too. They are very helpful, particularly with those who might be somewhat mobility challenged to get into and out of the motorized canoes. They do take you on a short driving tour of Panama City but no stops. http://www.emberavillagetours.com/welcome.htm
  8. On our most recent trip into NYC we asked out yellow cab driver about this. He told us they can pick up at the pier if they have just dropped someone off. Otherwise, we need to go across the street to get one. Hoping that maybe on ship days there is an organized line such as they have at Penn Station on 8th Ave.
  9. We like the Courtyard at 54th and Broadway and have stayed there numerous times. The real address is 1717 Broadway. Easy walk to Central Park and Times Square. Very helpful Bellmen for taxis or other car service.
  10. It has been awhile since I disembarked in FLL. How easy is it to get local taxi to the airport? Arriving back in port on a Saturday. Thanks for any thoughts.
  11. No, just my primary care. After 4 years we now have 3 "children" - Love Cat, Devil Dog and Chimpie along with their Nanny, Stanley, the Princess Bear. Yes, they do occasionally cruise with us, much to the amusement of the room steward.
  12. When my now husband and I were preparing to marry in our late 60's, (each after 40+ years of marriage) I told my doctor that we planned on having 5 children between us. With a blushed but dead pan face he asked how that was going to happen. I told him that is where his expertise becomes important. He lost it.
  13. I am also bringing a couple of bottles with me when we sail in January. We bring the train down.
  14. I was planning to bring a couple of bottles with me to have in the room. Unfortunately, I probably can't schlep enough bottles for 23 nights on board.😥 Yes, we have the drinks package.
  15. I know there are some good wines available on board. However, I miss the wines from the Finger Lakes region in New York State.
  16. I have also seen that Hurricane Fiona damaged the cruise pier. Turks and Caicos was also changed to San Juan Puerto Rico on the cruise to Panama City starting on January 25th.
  17. Unfortunately, your experience is very similar to what we experienced coming back from a Canada/NE cruise on the QM2 on July 8th. The chaos at the Brooklyn terminal for both embarkation and debarkation is a major issue. I hope the shore-side personnel can start improving or that The umbrella Carnival Corp. steps up to get it improved for both Princess and Cunard.
  18. The cost is based on where you want to go and how many people. We had a large SUV for 4 people to go below 50th or so street in Manhatten. If I'm remembering it was around $240. You can book it through shore excursions on Cunard.
  19. We were in Princess Grills suite on the QM2 starting on July 1 this year. It was a round trip NYC. Biggest issue was with the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. (That is discussed on other threads.) Our stateroom attendent was wonderful and very helpful with a few issues, as was the concierge. The Princess Grills dining room staff were great. We had no problem with service. Onenight we requested a special dessert. It was prepared for us the next evening. We also enjoyed the Grills lounge before dinner. The staff was great there, too.
  20. We really like the Courtyard at 54th and Broadway. It is a short walk, at least in NYC, to many of the theaters.
  21. When we arrived back to Brooklyn on July 8th this year, we booked a private car transfer through Cunard. It was one of the best decisions we made. We arranged it through the Grills concierge. You can choose a time to have the car available. We were through the disembarkation process about 30 minutes ahead of the time we selected. There was a car waiting for us at that time. Taxis were not plentiful that day nor the day we embarked on July 1.
  22. We frequently stay at the Courtyard associated with this Residence Inn and have stayed in this part, also. If your room is not ready when you arrive, they will store your luggage for you while you are out and about. The location is an easy walk to Central Park and Times Square. There are numerous restaurants in the area. We really enjoy an Irish Pub on 57th at 9th. We also prefer the Apple Jack diner at 55th and Broadway than the breakfast at the hotel. They also have a decent dinner. On the corner of 54th and Broadway is a street stand with very good food. The staff is very good at helping to make transportation arrangements, either helping to hail a taxi or a reputable private car service.
  23. We enjoy staying at the Courtyard at 54th and Broadway. Easy walk to both Times Square and Central Park. It would be a short ride to the pier. Staff very helpful in securing cabs or private car transport. For breakfast we recommend the Apple Jack Diner at 55th and Broadway.
  24. Enjoy your upgrade. Jim and I loved our PG experience on our July 1 cruise. You have already been given the advice/info I would. I really second the comment about the concierge. Having seen the departing passengers struggling with getting transportation after their cruise as we boarded, she really helped us with her suggestion and booking so that all of us, including 2 family members not in a grills suite, could depart together and not have to struggle getting ground transportation. It worked like a charm.
