  1. what a hostile thread.  😞

as someone said, different meds work for different people.

if dramamine or meclizine are not available in your country, can they be mail ordered?

or can you buy them at your first or second port stop?

my granddaughter is quite prone to motion sickness and she takes along a lot of ginger chews (candy with real ginger in it). for me, the taste alone would probably make me barf!!  LOL!

dh uses wrist bands - i find them painful - that point hurts!!

they tell pregnant women in the usa to chew on saltines - can't hurt - might help??

just do a google serch and bring along a variety of things you think might work.

and bring your patch too - as a last resort. it obviously works for some people.

    good luck!!

  2. we put everything in our carry on and backpack. like someone else mentioned, everything is put away by muster drill. we haven't checked luggage for maybe 10 years.

we just did 25 days in africa, a 25 day cruise and 2 weeks in europe (64 days total) with a carry on and backpack each. we do laundry (or send it out) every week.

we don't take copies of anything - we keep pics of important items on our phones and small laptop.

we don't take books or a kindle - all our reading material is on the kindle app on our phones.

works for us, but to each their own.

  3. we flew to fairbanks and rented a car for a week. then we slowly drove down to anchorage, stopping where we decided we wanted to. no crowds and a nice relaxed drive down with stops for sightseeing and hiking. we did plan our stops in advance and made overnight reservations. course that takes a lot more planning than a group tour but it is worth it. there are a lot of guide books and online info to help you out.

then we cruised down to vancouver from anchorage.

as a finale, we spent a week on vancouver island after we docked. a great 3 week trip!

  4. if you get a mileage credit card (for most airlines) it costs $100 a year and has $10,000 worth of trip insurance (if you have to miss a trip). It has no medical insurance but we buy a yearly policy that costs about $800.

our granddaughter had emergency surgery and she and her parents were unable to travel. our credit card insurance paid about $3,700 dollars- the full cost of the 3 fares since we had charged them on that card. NOTE: this is NOT cancel for any reason insurance.

you need to know what you wish to cover.

  5. you can find 6 packs of uk to eu or usa plugs for about 7 pounds on amazon.

be careful of voltage. uk and eu are compatable voltagewise - uk and usa are not unless you have a converter or the appliance is dual voltage like many computers, phone chargers and camera chargers.

if it is not dual voltage - 110 and 220 - be sure to plug it into an eu outlet.

  6. i think if you want to travel far and wide (europe, africa, south america, asia, etc.) you might want to at least double your travel budget.

$100/day might work for the caribbean but there are only so many places you can visit.

if you want to use the ship only as a plce to meet other single folks, i think an online dating service would be far cheaper??

  7. we stayed at a hotel/motel across the river in gravesend. interesting town to explore. on monday through saturday, you can take a short ferry ride across the river to your ship in tilbury. the ferry does not run on sunday but you can take a half hour taxi ride around to the closest bridge.

  8. i've moved stuff off "saved" chairs and sat down. i figured if someone returned i would either get up or play innocent: "there was nothing on the chair when i arrived - someone else must have moved your stuff before i got here".

though i've sat down for as long as a couple of hours, no one has ever come back to claim the various chairs or loungers.

  9. no matter where or how long we cruise plus land trip - and we've been gone 4 months - we each take a carry on and a backpack. and some of the european airlines weigh those carry ons - 8 kilos or 18 pounds max. we haven't checked a bag in 10 years.

    works for us but ymmv!

  10. instead of toiletry bags we have 2 of those soft plastic lunchboxes that they sell with all the back to school stuff for kids. i like them because they zip all the way open. we put cosmetics, toiletries, vitamins, and meds in one and electronic stuff: chargers, adaptors, nightlights plus any small items in the other.  works for us.

  11. we went to alaska this summer on princess. we were going to go on ncl till we noticed the port stops were shorter than on all the other cruise lines. now that may not matter to you nor be true when you want to go. it mattered to us since we had multiple ideas of what to do in each port, so the longer the visit the better. . only princess and ncl had dates that worked for us at the time.
