  1. We are looking seriously at Viking cruises and we have sailed all the luxury lines. Years ago we had great sailing on the now old Celebrity Galaxy to Alaska. We have heard excellent reports on Viking Ocean ship...the only downside for us is we love a casino, but heck we can save our money and enjoy the ship and meeting other people for entertainment and new friends.

  2. In that case, I'm canceling my cruise RIGHT NOW! I don't need to see a bunch of old, wrinkled, naked people! :')

Not all of us look bad and are not bad on the eyes either if you take care of yourself.

  3. I really don’t think this is much of an issue with luxury lines. Yes, maybe a very few but have never had an issue on Regent, Crystal, SIlversea. Plenty of space for everyone. Mass market lines with thousands perhaps.

  4. Wearing "dress jeans" seems to be okay on most premium cruise lines but they are not luxury cruise lines. How did Celebrity suite class compare with Regent (food, service, etc.)? In other words, is it worth sailing on a premium cruise line in order to wear dress jeans?

You're correct about the formality of Silversea. The majority of their passengers (on the sailings that we have been on) are mostly Europeans. Not sure if that will remain the same now that Royal Caribbean is involved.

I know for a fact that dress jeans ARE permitted on casual nights on a couple of luxury lines we have sailed. No holy jeans or ripped ones. Regent has their policy so it what it is and having sailed Regent we have seen nice jeans men and women in CR and nobody cared.

How many of you get tired of this dress code issue? Just asking.

  5. I do think that people should be considerate of those around them. While I no longer wear perfume (for the reasons mentioned on this thread), that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy some fragrances. I don't notice perfume much on Regent ships but definitely noticed an extremely strong smell of mosquito repellent when a group of us were in an elevator in an area where there are mosquitos.

Elevators are the worst place to be. People may not know this but you can buy mosquitoe spray without that horrible smell.

  6. Certainly not meant to be, as you say.... snarky. My point is that you seemed concerned about the method used by the TS and the accuracy of the potential results given the low percentage of Regent cruisers who actually post on Cruise Critic. I thought maybe you had a better idea of obtaining more accurate results that would meet your standard. As far as I am concerned, I see the TS as setting up a fun survey that would probably be of interest to posters. Nothing more.

Absolutely, it is a fun thread and if you can’t have a bit of fun I don’t know what is. Hey, I’m no spring chicken but I voted in the poll as well as my husband.

I don’t consider any of the comments to be snarky in the least. We are just a small group of people here and should be able to set up a poll without retribution from others. Anbody agree?

  7. Hi Malbec - Did you know that when you go to a car dealership and want to "test drive" one of their cars, there's a reason why they ask for your driver's license and "disappear" for a couple of minutes before coming back and returning your license to you?? It's because the Business Manager has used the time to run a "credit check" on you to be sure that you are a "financially worthy customer" before they entrust you (and waste valuable time) in demonstrating and trying to sell you one of their cars. They're getting a "read" on what kind of car they can sell you and what kind of price that you can afford/qualify for. Regards.

Thank you I know this. No cruise line will need to do a credit check on you unless you are applying for Casino credit.

I sold cars when I was younger and we did need the SS to run through the credit score. Everything is on your DL.

  8. Again there is no problem with this poll. Just one person disagrees. Nobody needs to know where any of us live only if we want to divulge it.

Age skews to be older on luxury lines and we have sailed all of them. I would guess that 75% have an AARP card. Now look at the mainstream party lines...those folks for the most part cannot afford a luxury cruise at their time in life but will in the future. Most of us all started cruising on mass market lines and got spoiled by them. Regent and other luxury lines will see in the future different demographics of cruisers and the lines will need to adapt to them. Face it the old guard will eventually be out. That’s life.

  9. Hi Marq - I applaud your efforts. As the old saying goes, "No good deed goes unpunished". "This 70-year old" is finding the data coming out of the survey to be very interesting - keeping in mind that it only represents a small sliver of the total Regent customer base.

In this world today, there doesn't seem to be any shortage of folks who "don't like" what "other folks" are doing - from smoking cigars, using drinking straws, or even wearing perfume. I have no doubt that Regent "knows" virtually everything about all of us! DOB's, SSN's, addresses, CC #'s, and they can probably also impute family income levels from their data (I'm sure they can probably get our FICO scores). It's a pretty fair bet that someone with over 20 Regent cruises under their belt is doing a "bit better" than minimum wage! Have a great day.

I agree with all you said with one exception FICO scores. One must be applying for credit to do a hard inquiry and need not to provide their social security number. We have never provided ours to any cruise line only passport and visa numbers.
