Hi Bea ... Hope the trials of the last two weeks are soon forgotten, friend got off today who had been in YC and enjoyed the cruise but not the ship and prefers Seaside and Seaview.

sidari, I'm booked on Seashore next June 18th. What did your friends say were the major differences in the YC's? Recently off Meraviglia in YC and had a fantastic experience.

Just off the Meraviglia (Oct 9th sailing).  The YC doors were problematic with the wristband, but the card always worked.  Same with the room door, it worked a bit better than the YC doors.   For some reason it worked flawlessly when paying for things in the shops (coincidence??).   🙂

One of the things they are seriously lacking is YC merchandise.   While there is a MSC merchandise store, there was nothing available specifically for YC.   No YC mugs, hats, t-shirts, shirts... nadda.  We would have dropped a few bucks on some stuff, but it simply wasn't available.  Someone in marketing dropped the ball on this!

I noticed the same thing. (Oct 2nd) I did see a lady with a YC hat and a YC Polo. Never did ask her where she got them. My guess would be she works for MSC, on a ship in Europe or she got them from a crew member. I would have picked up a hat and a polo, maybe 2.

  3. Sailed on the October 2nd sailing of Meraviglia in The Yacht Club so probably the same staff. I will agree with SirWolf 100%. We had around 1200 people on our sailing and YC was at 80% capacity. Loved our Maitre D' and the Sommelier. Went out of their way to please. Had a few Italian wines not on the list presented to us to try. During breakfast ( I had steak and eggs every day, not on the menu)The Sommelier would come over to our table and tell us he had a surprise for us tonight. Offered some awesome dessert wines also.

  4. We just got off Meraviglia . We did stay in The Yacht Club so that might have something to do with it. The food there was amazing. They will cater to any need or wants you have (within reason). Been in the food service industry since 1969 and attended The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park NY (very expensive , only attended 1 year...lol). I'm the same as Morgsmom, we expect "less" but this experience beat our expectations. Food is so subjective to each individual. I might love a particular dish and you might hate it so to generalize that any lines food is not good is shortchanging yourself.

  5. We got our Antigen tests at a local park. The test is administered by The Orange County government. Drive in, you never get out of your car. Open 9-5 every day. There were at least 50 cars already in line when we arrived. They have 4 tents set up. Took 15 minutes to get to the tents and only 20 minutes to get our results. You don't need an appointment but you do have to register online, we used Barnett Park...here is the link.

  6. Do the Yacht Club. You will not regret it. Just got off of Meraviglia 7 day in the Yacht Club. In my top 5 cruises of all time. The service was trumped only by my Transatlantic on the QE2. Booked again on January 9th on Meraviglia. This time I upped my cabin to a YC balcony instead of the YC Interior.

Champagne Bar had some good chatty bartenders.  We enjoyed it there, but most of it is for cost.

Loved the guys at the Champagne Bar. DW likes to sit at the bar and chat with the bartenders as do I. Most nights we left the Top Sail Lounge in the YC (bar stools blocked off) and went there, we had the Premium Plus package so most all the Champagne was included. One night we got one of those monster seafood towers. Pricey but very good quality seafood on there.

I've been on five other cruise lines and consider MSC to be a good value. There are some things that are different- not necessarily bad. The biggest problem is that they seem, even before the pandemic, to not have their act together with their website and customer service before the trip. On board, I had great experiences (four sailings) with the staff and those at the CS desk.

Just got off Meraviglia in the Yacht Club and was one of the best experiences I've had on any ship, food and service. I will agree with you 100% that they do need to do something about the website and their communication with guests about changes to itineraries. They changed our itinerary from day 1and if you didn't notice the information on your Daily or the small sign at the Concierge desk you wouldn't have known. This affected out excursion at the private island, had to switch from Sunday to Thursday. Ate in the YC dining room about 90% of the time and when we did grab something at the Market Place Buffet it was very good. Did not eat in the MDR so can't comment on that. The room service food was very good also. Room service pizza was amazing. Freshly baked pie, not from the buffet, was baked when you ordered it, took about 30 min.

  9. OK, probably shouldn't be putting this out there but here we go. Was bummed that Garage C was closed so started looking for options. Some folks said that you park in Garage D and they bus you back to Terminal C. I like to park in Garage C so I DON"T have to wait for a bus. Some folks said they parked at the NCL garage which is right next to Terminal C. Well that's what I opted to do since there was no NCL ship on either Embarkation or Debarkation day docked at their terminal. Dropped DW at Terminal C with all our bags went down to just before Terminal D and made a left to come back to the NCL Garage. Pulled in, got my ticket and parked on level 2. took the corner stairway down to street level and walked next door to Terminal C and my DW waiting for me under the Yacht Club tent. 7 days later disembarked. Got a porter after we grabbed our bags and he took us out to the pick up area. I tipped him and went next door to get my car ( total time from car in NCL garage to Yacht Club tent, 5 minutes.) Drove the car to the exit and all the gates were up with NO ONE to take my ticket or money. I guess when there are no ships at their pier they don't schedule anyone at the booths. Was ready willing and able to pay but no body there. I guess Mr. DelRio forgot about that nickle and dime...lol

  10. OK, I'm jealous. We just got off the Oct 2nd sailing and our embarkation took 25 minutes..lol. We also upgraded to the Premium Plus package and we took advantage with better Champagne, Bookers Bourbon that the Top Sail bartender snagged from the Irish Pub and numerous wines the were not on any list. The Sommelier would suggest them every night. At lunch he would whisper in my ear that he had a Surprise for me at diner. He kept coming up with Italian wines I've never heard of and, WOW, every one was awesome. Tell him Patrick from Disney told you about the Italian Merlot and Pinto Grigio wines and the after diner dessert wines.

  11. Just got off that same sailing and was in a YC Interior also. They are small but a great value. Totally agree with all you've said. I had a Cabana booked on Ocean Cay the first day because the original itinerary was to be there until 11 pm. I saw the the change after diner when we went back to our room and got the next day's Daily Planner. Went to the Concierge and they switched it to Thursday for me. We always went to the Top Sail lounge for a nite cap and the young lady you speak about was wonderful. After the 2nd night she would ask if we would like our usual, had the same drinks and snacks every night. Dinning room staff was excellent. I requested steak and eggs every morning, and got them. They had no issue's granting any reasonable request. We upgraded to the Premium Plus drink package and the Sommelier was always suggesting wines that were not on any of the (regular) lists. On the last day our group wanted to try the amazing pizza they offered from room service. So, each couple ordered a pie (they wouldn't deliver to the DR) and we brought them to the DR for lunch so we could get their awesome salads also, (we ok'd it first with the Maitre d'). We've sailed in The Haven on NCL and this was our first YC experience. We had a much more outgoing and friendly staff that bent over backwards to please you in The Yacht Club on Meraviglia. I will be sailing again on her in the YC on January 9, 2022. Can't wait. Any question anyone has I'd be happy to try and answer.

I can get the test Thursday before leaving Saturday but it would be 9am our scheduled time at 11am to board.
I don't know if the tests have a time stamp or just what day.
We need to get the test done earliest as possible to make sure the tests are completed in time.

You're good. Test on Thursday, Friday or Saturday for Saturday sailing...

Let me share a little trick.  On August 16, 2021, we sailed on the MSC Meraviglia.  We parked in parking garage B, the new NCL parking garage.  When we entered, I noticed only terminal workers parking in the garage.  When we exited, there was no one to collect payment.  Try it out, it worked for us.  Eventually it will get abused and they will shut it down.  But it is so close to Terminal C and is an easy walk.

Thanks. The NCL garage was my first plan. If it's shut out for MSC passengers I'll do the Garage G thing.

  14. Sailing on Meraviglia Oct 2 2021. She has been sailing out of Terminal C. Does anyone know if they have reopened Terminal C parking garage? Would park in the new NCL terminal garage but have seen threads that they are making you park in garage D or G and busing you back to Terminal C. If that's the case I'll park off site and save the $$$$

  15. Price for the upgrade is just the first 2 guests in the cabin so you won't pay for the other 2. Oct. 2nd will be our first YC experience. We have sailed on NCL in The Haven (similar to YC). I like the areas of seclusion in these Ships within a Ship. My vacations are a decompression for me. I'm a Disney World manager and deal with alot of stress daily. Getting away from everything and have people take care of me for a change is why we book these Ship within a Ship concepts. But be warned once you go Yacht Club or The Haven you might not want to go back to a normal cabin. From what I've seen in these boards the YC is suppose to a better experience than The Haven. So, YES it will be worth the extra cost.

I realize you tip in YC depending on use of personnel, but what is a ball park figure? We sail next week for our first time in YC. We have always tipped bar servers for drinks....is that appropriate in YC? TIA

When we stayed in The Haven on NCL we tipped our Butler $100 and the Concierge $50. Tipped the Bartenders and Cocktail servers and extra $1 per drink.

  17. You can call MSC and pay for your Gratuities before you sail. Leaving on Oct 2nd and that's what I did. Staying in the YC and paid $14 a day. $196 for the 2 of us for 7 day sailing. I also will take care of my Butler and Concierge (depending on how much we utilize them) as well as both of the YC Restaurant Maitre d's.
