  1. by the way, st thomas is very nice, but there isnt a great deal going on there, unless you're a beach person. i would suggest, in the alternative, if the ship docks in charlotte amalie, just get off and wander around the town.
  2. well, we've lived in los angeles for over 50 years. no ice bar for me, thank you very much! once was (too much) enough!
  3. i asked because we are on the dawn aug 6th thru 15th. ithought if we were on the same cruise, i'd buy you the 1st drink
  4. sand and seas, i admit to being 75 years old, and sincerely hope cc doesnt censor this post, but the term "nickel bag" has an entirely different meaning for me (LOL) and i aint talkin peanuts!!
  5. sofasogood. what cruise are you on inaug? for me it was an ice cold can of pepsi and a snickers bar!!! to this day (im 75) i still consider this the "breakfast of champions)
  6. you're 100% correct, no one can forsee the future. it's probably just as likely as not. btw, we saw it last aug on the bliss, and it was amazing
  7. im to much of a wuss for the ice bar. my wife and i tried it about 5-6 years ago on the epic. apparently, they keep it at 17 degrees. i toughed it out for about 8 minutes, an boogied my butt right out of there.

  9. i usually log onto booking or hotels.com. once you indicate where youre going and what dates, you will get an almost unlimited amount of choices. pick out a few that you may wish to consider, then log onto google to check the distance from the chosen hotel to the cruise port
  10. heineken or modelo dark if it's available.. can never go wrong with chivas on the rocks, or a manhattan. if your ship has a "sugarcane" i think most do, any of their mojito's will make your day
  11. it adheres to the local time. whenever there is a time change, you will get a card in your cabin advising you of the change and to adjust your clocks/watches accordingly. if youre unsure of the correct time when you wake up, turn on your tv to the channel that gives you the ship information (i think it's either 12 or 13)
  12. sand and seas. LOL... unfortunately, i am a pepsi addict, just like some people are addicted to caffeine, and cant kick start their day without a cup of coffee. it's not unusual for me to have a can pf pepsi with my breakfast. coke, (although of course i can drink it if pepsi's not available, just doesnt do it for me in the same way
  13. it is a disaster of biblical proportions, but sadly and emphatically , "YES"
  14. if by chance you happen to book a suite or haven suite, if you describe specifically what you want, i'm sure the butler can get the ingredients together for you. i ask him for assorted cheeses, crackers and meats, and he usually comes through. while it may be a bigger pain in the butt, the buffet also has a station with assorted meats, cheese etc, so you can actually make your own with whatever you choose
  15. sorry, but lots and lots of things have changed in the last 17 years. i concur with meheartcruising. in 24 sailings with ncl, since 2010, i have yet to see "ballroom" dancing on any of their ships. of course there is a dance floor in spinnaker lounge, i believe in the mdr of another of their ships (the actual one escapes me at the moment), but if youre looking for a dance floor for dancing comparable to that of "dancing with the stars" im afraid you'll be disappointed . so in the alternaive get out there and boogie your tushie off either on the pool level, or at spinnaker
  16. personally, i'd place all my bets on the posted ncl schedules
  17. we've booked haven cabin in the past, i would continue to do so (depending on price) as now i feel comfortable booking the same type cabin over and over. it's like "welcome home" for the past year + my wife and i have traveled with a close friend. we book the 2 bedroom suite. she helps contribute to the cost, and the 3 of us get all the perks associated with the haven. while i concede we havent cruised with another line in many years (strictly ncl) knowing what to expect, and knowing what i'm going to get, (imho) justifies booking with ncl, and especially a suite.
  18. in some cases, you can stay on board the ship and still "swim with the pigs" sorry, i just couldnt resist. we've been swimming with dolphins in costa maya, with stingrays in grand cayman, but with pigs.. i think not
  19. by the way. even on my cruise on the star to southeast asia, the problems were strictly mechanical. there was nothing wrong with anything else on this cruise. i would have/have no qualms about booking another cruise on her. i dont expect gourmet cooking, when the kitchens are trying to prepare 1000's of meals per day in various venues throughout the ship, trying to accomodate 1000's of people varying food tastes. i have never had any negative interactions with any of the crew/staff. in the end, the star also has an amazing choice of itineraries. so, i say unto you all "go, enjoy, and stop b*****ng". I once had a friend that claimed some people would complain if they were being hung with a new rope. by the way good buddy chief mate jrk, hope you agree!
  20. dont worry, ncl never misses chance to separate it's passengers from their $$$. i assure you, there will be many, many shore excursions available buy the time you get ready to sail. we're on the dawn march 2024 from capetown to barcelona, 21 days, and right now thee are only 7 excursions listed, and they are all for the canary islands, and not one of them interest me.
  21. by the way, if neither of you are big drinkers, you probably dont need to spend the extra $$$$ on the drink package. you're both probably better off paying drink by drink.
  22. to put it simply, imho, emphatically "NO" the STAR itself is certainly NOT bad! Just came off a back to back last aug/sept, and everything was fine. i dont really care about the entertainment, the food was ok. its as good as can be expected when a kitchen is cooking multi-meals for a few 1000 people daily, never had a problem getting a drink, and for the 1st few days, so the wait staff/bartenders would get to know us, we left tips for all. fredflint claims the cruise director was MIA. i say, who cares, in 24 cruises with ncl, i never bothered to even find out if there is a cruise director. I certainly don book a cruise hoping there will be a young, fresh cruise director leading the fun and games. of course, if you booked the star expecting bells and whistles, you're going to be massively disappointed. if you booked for the itinerary, and you have a nice, clean comfortable cabin, i believe you'll pleasantly and completely surprised. imo, the star is no better or worse than most of the ships in the ncl fleet (other than the newer ones) so, iigator, my concluding advice, is the old adage "believe 1/2 of what you see, and none of what you hear or read. personally, i can have a great time on any ship i choose (star definitely included)
  23. yes, and you can hoard as many as you want in your cabin fridge (great if youre sailing with kids, or want some cereal in your cabin and not the hassle of the buffet
  24. mscdivina2016, sounds like a major score in theory, but how much did you spend total on your credit card to amass that amount of points? when you factor in total spending throughout the year, interest payments and current balance, did you really get such a great deal, or would have been just as equal if you paid for the cabin. and i dont mean to rain on your parade, just curious
