  1. You can find some "in between" shoes now that feel like a sneaker but look dressier. I've found a grey pair of shoes made from Merino wool uppers that are both comfortable, incredibly light, and sufficient for workdays not involving legislative action. I did a search for merino wool shoes and found them for about 90 bucks.

  2. I love the 2024 itinerary!  The Admiral and I may be limited to shorter trips at present due to our 3 cats, though 2 of these may have not too long left. It may be a good strategy, if we were to end up untethered.

Thanks for asking this. I am going on, hopefully, my first Regent cruise next year (RSS Splendor, European Transatlantic - Rome to Miami) and I bought all my clothes from JC Penny and Target! The JCP ones look much nicer and country-clubish.

After seeing pictures of people's closets from their suites, it was clear that I will have no problem fitting in on Regent.

Now Cunard, might be another story. I would like to sail/cross the Atlantic or Pacific on a real ocean liner one day, and Cunard is the only one building them.

I got a suit off the rack at JCP that fits perfectly and looks great (according to the Admiral [my wife], totally put what I saved in the cruising account. Agree, I'd like to do the Cunard trip as well.

This conversation about noise and kids reminds me, this is one area where I have evolved as a human being.  I was a peace & quiet guy, but I married a woman who's at home with utter chaos.  She won.  I still need quiet if I'm studying--e.g. if I'm studying mathematical modelling of physical behaviors, I can't do the noise--but I've come to appreciate what I would categorize as happy sounds.  The squirrels and birds outside fighting over the bird feeder.   The dogs trying to feed on the squirrels.  The kids discussing how to beat the Nintendo.   And now, unfortunately, I'm dealing with all the sounds inside a nursing home, and they're not so good.  I've had hard times in my life where my business duties or marital situation meant that I came home to a dark house.  The dog's not barking because...well...the dog's no longer with us.

The kids and the instruments are happy noises.  And I'm usually not particularly trying to focus on anything on the ship (unless I'm actually the contestant on one of the cruise director's game shows).  I can deal.  The sadness comes when the covid comes and the noises are NOT there.

Hey, sounds like a rough stretch.  Keep getting on here and posting and interacting with us.  We're glad to hear your digital voice
