She used to make stuffed animals and sell then at craft fairs. (Really as a hobby, not to make money) Her stuffed cows always sold out, but she would be bored with making cows and make other animals that did not sell as well. One time in a fabric store while she was look for material to "clothe" a cow, I asked what color she was looking for. I pointed out a material, and she sternly said to me. "Do you think a cow would really wear that?". 🤦♂️🤣

If you only had 3-4 hours in Amsterdam...
ontheweb replied to SEA58's topic in British Isles/Western Europe
Please be aware that for the really major museums like the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, and the Anne Frank House, you are going to need to purchase timed tickets in advance. (We did luck out last summer and there were tickets to the Rijksmuseum available for the half hour after we arrived there, but absolutely none for Van Gogh.) We found the Portuguese Synagogue to be fascinating. Your admission for there will also get you into the Jewish Museum. -
Can you check your bill on the tv? I was able to do that on NCL last summer (and they of course do not have the "wonderful" medallion technology.)

We really loved our Prima cruise last summer, but the itinerary for the Dawn sounds much better. And on a Baltic cruise, the itinerary should be the main focus. Also, some of the features of the Prima would work best in a warmer cruise.

Not if they keep building only monstrosities of the seas and the older ships eventually age out.
-
There are ports that do not want the large ships. Venice in Europe and Bar Harbor, Maine in the USA are 2 examples.
-
The problem with the new huge ships is that there are many ports that either they cannot go to or they are getting banned as the ports do not want that many cruise visitors at once.
-
I would not call the Prima class small ships, just smaller than the ships that were being built immediately before them.
-
And it reverses what they did when they built the Prima class ships making them smaller than the Epic and Breakaway class ships.

Interested in a comparison between HAL and a Scenic River cruise?

Any ship you've been particularly impressed with?
ontheweb replied to sjde's topic in Ask a Cruise Question
I know many people don't seem to like the NCL Prima because it is different, but we really liked it. I was also impressed with the Ocean Princess (no longer in the Princess fleet) for how well you got to meet other passengers and even crew because of its small size. And our cruises on both were picked for the itinerary. -
So, I did that evening order the vegetarian dish, though with some trepidation. It was a curry. Also had rice and mango chutney. I tried some of the rice with the little bit of mango chutney, and it was very good. (I really like mango.) And then I took my first taste of the curry, and it was incredibly HOT. My wife looked at me and said go back to the room, which I did and basically threw up all night. But thanks for the advice. 😢😢

NO, NO, NO. Shrimp was an ingredient, not part of the name, so that was not the dish. Let me repeat this once again. Each night they had ONLY 3 entrees. The first was always meat. The second always fish. The third was always vegetarian. By adding meat to the fish dish, they severely limited the choice for anyone not eating meat.
-
I hope they show him my comments on their post cruise survey. I was very positive on everything else, but wrote that with the limited menu adding meat to fish dishes was a MAJOR PROBLEM.
-
Yes, one dish with shrimp had some sort of Italian ham. Another fish dish had bacon. I am sorry I do not remember the specific dishes. The shrimp dish is one I would have ordered.
-
No, each time it was how it was listed on the menu.

I was wondering if this was only for the ship we were on or possibly the chef in charge or totally throughout Gate 1. You seem to have answered that question. Thank you. I thought of calling Gate 1 if we found another of their river cruises that interested us and asking about this, but did not know if they could really answer.

I only had a seat once, and I gave it up. It's rock and roll; you stand and shake your old body to the music!

I agree that what Royal Caribbean and Celebrity do makes sense. I don't see any reason for Carnival not to use better equipment when they obviously have it for Princess and HAL. First impressions always make a large impact, and not efficiently getting your passengers onboard cannot be a good first impression.

And that closeness surely adds to the fun of their performance. On the Prima this past summer I even got to speak with 2 of the singers who were fascinated with my experience at the original Woodstock festival in 1969.
