Dress code for restaurants (Moorea and Tahiti)
FlightMedic555 replied to Piaa's topic in Paul Gauguin Cruises
I wear long pants in the evening to minimize mosquito bites. At Rudy's many wear shorts, sandals and tee shirts. I wear long pants and a nicer shirt. You will not be out of place with shorts and any shirt you want at the restaurants on Moorea. -
Diving with Manta Rays- other Favorite dives?
FlightMedic555 replied to ltdemptynest's topic in Paul Gauguin Cruises
We have done a snorkel that looked for mantas 7 times. 3 times we did not find them. I would do a snorkel as you get to many other sites. If you do the dive and strike out you may have wasted an excursion. With the dive you have to stay at the bottom and observe the mantas. You really get a similar view from the snorkel. The shark dive site in Moorea was very good as was the Bora Bora dive outside the lagoon. -
No daily rate or "per bag", ala carte only.

We have been there 8 times from the Paul Gauguin. Every time Le Truck took you 8th Fare but there is little there. I’m presuming the ships excursions start at the tender location. You can also arrange for private excursions from there. If yo7 go to Fare you can also walk to a d3crnt beach for snorkeling.

There were two taxis there two weeks ago offering tours. If they are booked you are out of luck. If they offer Le Truck into Fare there were a few more there as well.

Snorkling masks that are magnified ?
FlightMedic555 replied to Snowcat1's topic in Paul Gauguin Cruises
They don’t. You can easily purchase a mask on Amazon, or at a local dive shop, with prescription lenses. Not much more expensive than a standard mask. You simply put in your correction (such as +2) for the right and left eye. The correction can be different for each eye. Standard masks do magnify in the water but may not “correct” your vision. -
For clarity, we have never needed a ticket but there have been occasions when some people on line could not get on the tender as it was full. As mentioned, the people on ship excursions get priority.

No tickets needed. Just head down.

Thanks for all the info.

If I understand correctly the SS1 are the Star Window Suites which are the relatively newer cabins. They are mostly on deck 4 but there are 4 on deck 5 and 2 on deck 6. Any recommendation as to,whether any location is better? thanks

I’m on the ship now. They said the catamaran trip leaves at 8:45 and returns at 11:45. The snorkel is not at the drift snorkel location but is at a different location in deeper water. hope this helps.

I’m not seeing this excursion on their website?

Traveling with a toddler (will turn 3 onboard)

BTW, I was. It commenting on my or other people’s concerns with children on board. It was specific to the limited activities that are available in that age group -
Traveling with a toddler (will turn 3 onboard)
FlightMedic555 replied to Wanderlust_23's topic in Paul Gauguin Cruises
I’m on the ship now. The youngest child is probably around 12. Unfortunately most of the excursions would not work for a toddler. There are excursions by small trucks at many ports where you basically are sitting on a bench in what may have been the bed of a small truck. No child seats and probably not very interesting for a 3 year old. -
We are on the ship now and have been here before. Look at TeKing on Aitutaki. Is is not a ship excursion but is very good. On Huahine look at Huahine Nautique as their trios are also excellent. On Bora Bora the ship now offers Pure Snorkeling by Reef Discovery. A spectacular snorkel trip.

One week in Moorea. Rent car in Papeete or Moorea?
FlightMedic555 replied to oakridger's topic in Pacific Islands, All
We had $80 in mileage charges for our 1 day. Should have used a different company -
One week in Moorea. Rent car in Papeete or Moorea?
FlightMedic555 replied to oakridger's topic in Pacific Islands, All
I’m in Tahiti now. Rented from Hertz at the airport for one day to go to Teahupo’o. Very high mileage charge. We go on the Paul Gauguin tomorrow and post cruise will ferry to Moorea where we have a car reserved with Avis. No mileage charge there -
Mobility issue - PG Cruise and Overwater Bungalows
FlightMedic555 replied to aqualady's topic in Paul Gauguin Cruises
Huahine Nautique on Huahine has a great tour which includes lunch at their motu. A gentle ride in the boat and they also stop at an overwater pearl farm. Some refer to this as Marc's Tour. Only downside is that they end the tour a about 3:30 so you miss the Children of Huahine who perform on the ship at 3:00 pm. None of the tours (either private or from the PG) on Moorea should be a problem either as they are larger boats, the distance traveled is pretty short, and the ride is calm inside the lagoon. -
Mobility issue - PG Cruise and Overwater Bungalows
FlightMedic555 replied to aqualady's topic in Paul Gauguin Cruises
When you arrive to board the PG the pier is very short and you get dropped off via bus or taxi right at the entrance. Maybe a 30+ yard walk to the gangway. None of the port stops have a pier like the Caribbean as you tender in to each location. The walk from the tender location to you excursion boat or vehicle is super short. For boat excursions it is no more than 20-30 yards at any port. For a land based excursion the walk to the vehicle is also short. On Moorea it is probably the longest ( you walk past some vendors) at about 50 yards. I would avoid 4x4 and ATV type tours. I would also look for snorkeling tours (presuming you want to snorkel) that are in a larger boat. Most of the PG sold excursions are in a larger boat (20+ passengers) and are more stable and go slower. I would avoid the Pure Snorkeling trip on Bora Bora (absolutely fantastic tour but it is a small speed boat that is very bumpy).
