Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I would agree. I think that is not because everyone is trying to make you believe that, but the fact that Cruise Critic doesn't represent the standard distribution of Carnival guests. This site is filled with more older, experienced cruisers with higher loyalty status, so it skews that way. Based on spending many hours sitting at bars on cruise ships, and being an avid people watcher, I would say extra tipping, on Carnival, is definitely not the norm. But I usually give a few extra bucks throughout the day, and more times than not, when that bartender sees me, the drink is made, before others who were there before me.
  2. We aren't platinum, but when we travel with our autistic kids, we get escorted through check-in, to minimize our time in the chaos. Our escort usually then takes us directly to our room, to drop bags, and then they talk with the cabin attendant about the situation, as our kids usually like to decompress, for about an hour or two, in the room, after check-in. And there is typically no keys for the room available to about 1:30. And we get lots of stares from people who are camped outside of the closed doors, to the room passageways, as we come and go before the 1:30 time.
  3. but then you could only play every other day, unless you smuggle your own on..
  4. yeah don't get your hopes up. IMO, based on the Unified Command occupying the cruise terminal for their command center, you won't see them vacate until the entire main channel is clear and ship is removed. Once that is done you should see it turn over to more local control, since the port will be open.
  5. It happens a lot, just this boat had more people than normal. Here was a "rescue" we watched on January 8, 2023 on the Pride. The people refused to come aboard, so the ship gave them food, water, lifejackets and a radio and sent them on their way. I'm sure the ship also reported their location to the Coast Guard or Mexican authorities since it seemed they were heading west from Cuba to Mexico, based on where we ran across them. As I learned later it is about 90 miles to FL Keys by heading North, and it is also 90 miles heading due West from Cuba to Mexico. A lot of Cubans are trying the Mexico/Southern Border route vs the old Cuba to Keys route from the 90s due to changes in the old wet foot/dry foot immigration laws.
  6. no one likes to sleep in the wet spot
  7. yeah, the lobster rolls are a little light on the lobster.
  8. I got this offer too, rooms went pretty quick though. I usually dont get any casino offers, these days, since I am not a high roller, and ships are sailing at capacity. So I can only assume I got this offer as I have sailed out of Baltimore before and I Iive in Virginia. So I assume they mined the data base to target the offers. I am curious as to where everyone else, who got this offer, lives.
  9. Saw a bunch of threads asking/speculating when the Baltimore cruises will resume, but thought this should be its own topic, unrelated to a specific cruise. Based on the snippet from this article, probably much longer than you think. Cruise traffic was never going to be a priority for the Port of Baltimore. The Unified Command will not be vacating the cruise terminal as soon as the main channel reopens. They will probably be there for some time, since they have turned the Cruise terminal into a command center. My guess would be that the earliest the Unified Command would be shut down would be after the main channel is fully open, which means moving the Dali, as well. Murky Water, Twisted Steel: Inside the Operation to Clear the Key Bridge Wreckage - USNI News "The furious activity inside the cruise terminal at the Port of Baltimore on Monday was far from normal. Though the area often sees cruises throughout the week, where throughout the week passengers walk through the doors toward their cruise ship or come back through Customs and Border Protection. Cruises are halted and the terminal’s lobby has been transformed into a command post for the Joint Information Center under the unified command, set up by the Coast Guard, to tackle the wreckage of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.. The lobby where passengers would typically check in was filled with tables where people in red vests sat. In rooms farther back, one cubicle was set up for the Coast Guard, another for the Navy. Paper signs labeled JIC adorn the temporary walls of the cubicles."
  10. Sailed the Pride March 2023 to Panama Canal partial transit and changed time zones 2 times (i think). Just sailed the Pride last week and never changed time zones, so we were 2 hours ahead in Belize.
  11. I have never really had an issue with scooters in the hallways. just sailed on the Pride last week and didn't see any scooters in the halls. We rented a scooter in December 2023, as my wife just had ankle surgery, so that was our first time dealing with it. We had an interior room and the scooter pretty much took up most of the floor space. On scooter widths, the standard cabin doors are 21" wide. the "standard" 3-wheel scooter, most people rent, is 20" wide, so tight but doable. The Scoot Around company, that Carnival partners with, also has a newer hybrid wheel chair/scooter that is not as long but has 4 wheels. We were going to get that option because it seemed more portable for taxis in ports and had a tighter turning radius, but the width of it was listed at 21" so the Scooter Round rep said he couldn't guarantee it would fit.
  12. just got back from the Pride on Saturday and have no clue who the Maitr De was.
  13. when checking in the limit you can set is for the total cruise. You can then add to the limit onboard at one of the kiosks. So if you want to do daily limits you would have to add to the limit each day.
  14. Funny you bring up Raphael Lounge. I just got off the Pride on Saturday. I have been on Pride 3 times and other Spirit class ships for about a total of 6 cruises. This was the first time I ever realized the Raphael lounge was there. good find, as my wife isn't a fan of the Alchemy bar, since they don't serve wine.
