  1. Hi,

Just wanted to double check.  Next week we will be sailing for the first time where I used my Amex platinum to utilize their cruise privileges program when I paid for my cruise.  For my booking, my TA said we get $100 OBC and dinner at Le Bistro.  However, when I asked him if it is supposed to show in my edoc or anything, he said no, these 2 things would show up automatically when I am onboard.  I was wondering if anyone knew where that is supposed to show up.  Is there something that I need to bring as proof in case it doesn't show up?  Also does anyone know if I have to use my amex platinum for on board account or can I use any cc at this point.

Also when dining at Le Bistro, do I have to specify to them to use the one from Amex vs say using my specialty dining from my perks or the one from my NCL Platinum benefit?

    Thanks

I have never been to a Meet & Greet.  Going to my first on our Getaway cruise in November.

Can someone please explain to me what is the big deal about the Officers attending other than to say you have seen them.  It would be cool though to meet the captain but everyone else?

Do they give you anything or they just show their face and say hello and answer a few questions and leave.

No, normally in the NCL ones I have attended, you don't get anything, although years ago, our meet and greet leader managed to get us a bridge tour, but we were on one of the smallest ships, I think NCL Crown if I recall.  But I know that they told us this was not the norm.  This meeting isn't to meet the officers of the ship.  It is more for cruisecritic folks that are in the roll call to meet each other after talking with each other online and making friends for awhile before the sailing.  Sometimes a cc member may organize something like small gift exchange or something.  It all depends on how active your roll call is.   If officers come, they say hi and maybe answer a few questions, and some will leave like business cards or something, so if you have an issue/complaint, you have a way to provide feedback while on the ship so they can try and address while you are still sailing. RCCL ones are similar, although sometimes they may do small drawing for little knic knack or something, as those are organized by RCCL.

The advice from @trivimp is correct.

I would go one step further and suggest you approach your TA and/or PCC to have the rooming arrangements changed on your present booking

LOL I know.  But I can't change the booking.  I would have booked it with one of us in each cabin, but my parents actually don't know my brother is coming.  It's a surprise.  He moved across country a few months ago. 🙂

  4. Hi,

My brother and I are both platinum and from my understanding, we would only get one set of dinner vouchers.  I was wondering, are these tied by account?

For example, we are traveling w/ my parents in a diff cabin who are not platinum.  Am I able to say take one of the coupons and take my mom and my brother takes my dad?   Or is it I need to use these coupons with my brother only?

    Thanks,

    Debbie

This is good info! Besides the CPP perks, is this card worth it? I may need to apply 🤔

Depends on what you find worth it.  Its got an annual fee of almost $700.  But if you have a corporate amex card, they have a program shere its reduced a little.  The $200 hotel credit mentioned above is not for just any hotel, its for what Amex qualifies as hotels in their Fine & Regular Hotel collection.  You get $20/month to apply towards a select few, like Disney bundle, but not Netflix.  I have it using audible.com right now.  You also get monthly uber credits of $15, where Dec is I think it was like $35.  That said, sometimes you also get random amex offers that you can add that can save some money.  LOL it  came too late to help me as it was after my final payment date, but I currently have an offer where if I spend $500 on NCL reservations, I will get $125 statement credit back.  They do it randomly sometimes w/ the other cruiselines as well.

  6. I don't know the answer to your first question, as this is my first time using my amex card and the cpp.  But my TA had me already submit my paperwork for the shareholder benefit  So that is in my acct already.  And he said that my amex benefits will be put in about a week before the cruise, so I assume both can be used.

  7. I actually don't know why expectation is for something to show under the Onboard Credit heading.  All the other values on the screen shot shown here are showing to the right of their labels.  So it shows nothing.  I think it could have been more obvious to show $0. But my guess is that its reading from a database or something and the value on your record for OBC field is probably like null, instead of a 0, so it had nothing to display on the UI.

But I actually have 5 fields like this on an app that I have. So maybe I am used to something like this in the page

I usually bring a thick plastic bag (ziplock) that's just a tad smaller than the NCL paper bags and really PACK the dirty clothes in and then put that inside the paper bag.  You can fit a bit more without ripping the bag that way.

I think we've fit a lot more.  lol my brother tends to bring a roll of duct tape, and we just wrap it around to make sure it doesn't rip.  We rolled the clothes up like we rolled to compress in the suitcase 😄

@david_sobeall this does is reinforce that Americans are selfish and no amount of restrictions, guidelines or other measures will protect us from each other.

What I mean is this - "The passenger’s wife later revealed that her husband had symptoms of coronavirus before getting on the flight and was heading home to get tested."

If you're experiencing symptoms you DON'T GET ON A FLIGHT!  I get it - you might be more comfortable at home, but putting 200 others at risk (not to mention the numerous people you interact with at the airport) to do that when you already have symptoms?!  That's pure selfishness and lack of consideration for others!  That couple should have stayed where they were and gotten tested there rather than hopping on a cross-country flight.

Actually, from the articles I read... they knew he had covid and he lied on the paperwork to united.  The articles said his wife was telling folks he tested positive for covid the week prior!

  10. It seems to be an oddball type of policy.

    Here is another covered "situation":

"Fire, mechanical, other covered issue impacting cruise experience (not available to residents of FL, MN, MO, NH, NY, OR, PA, VA, WA)"

For this one (also pretty rare occurrence, I'd hope!), I don't know if they require one to prove it "impacted" the experience!

This policy doesn't offer much in the way of what we need for travel insurance, but we've read about it here on CC before.

I have NOT yet read of someone stating they had a claim for the "inconvenience" type of situation and actually got paid, however.

    GC

I guess I can try and see what they say. If it had just said delay of arrival past 3 hours I wouldn’t be thinking of it. But in the actypolicy it said departure too.

  11. What time did The Jewel actually leave Vancouver? They were not scheduled to leave until about 1 A.M. Because of the time of scheduled for departure, there was a lot of discussion on the Roll Call as to what time the Muster Drill would be held.

Muster happened in the afternoon. Around 4pm. They made announcements that we were late so I doubt there was any expectation that we were leaving after midnight.

  12. Great... glad that turned out to help!

Perhaps you could post your experience on that Travel Insurance sub-forum.

Others who have your type of insurance might find it useful if they have a similar issue in the future (or if they've recently had one).

Just started a new thread in the link you posted earlier. Thanks!

  13. Hi,

If I read my policy it seems to say that if we have a delay in departure from port or arrive late to port of more then 3 hours, that I could made a claim for travel change inconvenience. My ship left the port about 8 hours past the scheduled time.

I am not sure how to make a claim as ncl front desk won’t give me any letter or anything proving that we left late as they said no insurance would cover late departure only late arrivals. Since our first place was nearby the ship made up the time so arrived on time. I do however have an email now from the port of Vancouver ops department with their date timestamp on when they recorded our ship leaving.

Has anyone ran into this before?

    Thanks!

  14. They apparently have the type of insurance that pays for missed ports or apparently certain delays, without regard for any financial loss.

If they paid for the insurance coverage, they should be able to file a claim and collect.

    GC

Yes, mine covers changes in ports too. Btw, thank you for your suggestion earlier. The ops manager from port of Vancouver has emailed me back to confirm the time that the Jewel left their berth and a snapshot as well. They have also sent me another contact as well to see if that will help.

Not sure if insurance will take it, but it can’t hurt. :)

  15. Every trip delay covered policy I have ever seen reimburses you for reasonable expenses due to a covered delay. I'm not sure if they would cover a delay that incurred no expenses, as the OP was probably on board the ship.

Check out Nationwide choice cruise. This is a cruising specific insurance. To be honest it’s the first time I have ever bought travel insurance and I saw this one mentioned before with cruise critic.

  16. I'm just curious what would you expect to get from the insurance? Did you miss any nonrefundable excursion's or were you just behind schedule leaving from the embarkation port?

According to the policy it says if delayed from leaving or arriving at a port after more then 3 hours is one of the things it covers. If claim is accepted I get about $200pp. Can only be claimed once

  17. Yes, we are in Alaska now.

I had the nationwide cruise insurance where it said delay of departing for a port for longer then 3 hours was covered as shipboard inconvenience. But the front desk said they won’t give me a letter to say that the Jewel left after the scheduled departure time so I am not sure how I would file a claim. 😞
