  1. Kind of a silly ? But we wear contacts since the new rule of no plastic bottles is the bottle of contact lance solution going to be a problem ?

When CCL says "no plastic bottles" they are referring to soft drinks and water. You can still take mouthwash, shampoo, etc.

  2. Fort Lauderdale is the easiest and closest.

Port Canaveral is about an hours drive from Orlando. If you are flying in the day before, rent a car in Orlando and drop off near the port. Most of the major rental car agency have a location near the port and offer a shuttle service to and from the port.

Miami is about 20 min drive to port but we hate to fly into MIA.

Never sailed from Tampa or Galveston, but from reading on this board Galveston is the worst.

Long Beach is about 45 min from LAX. If you can get a flight into Long Beach it's a very short ride to port.

  3. Sadie--Thanks for the info. I did not think to look at "Mexican Riviera" because, technically, Ensenada is not part of the Mexican Riviera.

ImaginationCruiseBride--Thanks for the info you provided. My daughter and I are mostly interested in active things to do--swimming, snorkeling, hiking, bicycling, etc. (But she has told me the snorkeling isn't great on Catalina because of all the kelp.) So, if you discover something "outdoorsy" that's fun on your upcoming cruise, I'd love to hear about it.

BTW, do you have to tender at Catalina and/or Ensenada?

Catalina is a tender port, Ensenada they dock.

Parasailing is available in Catalina. Horseback riding, ATV's are available in Ensenada.

  4. Hi all,

My husband and I are booked on a cruise that leaves in a few days. I got a call a few weeks ago to upgrade our interior room to a balcony for what I considered a small charge so I went for it. I am trying to keep this a secret from my husband because I want him to be surprised when we open the doors to our room.

I already printed the cruise docs and they have been sitting on the table for a few days and he hasn't noticed the room change. I am wondering if you guys think that I can keep this a secret until we walk in the room? This is my 5th cruise but I can't remember if when you are checking in they confirm your room type verbally or anything. I would rather tell him on the plane than have someone tell him when we are checking in.

    Thoughts?

I tried to do this with my wife a few years back. She had seen the cabin number when we booked about a year out. About a month later I upgraded to a balcony. Two days before we were to sail, she calls me and tells me something was wrong with our booking because they had moved us to a new cabin. Funny thing was she had miss-read the new cabin number and thought they had moved us to an interior room from our original OV and was upset. She was happy when I told her that we had a balcony.

  5. Hey Steve, I agree with you on the tender fiasco. We were on one of the first tenders Sunday. With the Star arriving after the other two ships and anchored way out, it was the longest tender ride we have ever had in Cabo, plus our operator just idled along. We were on the tender for just under 30 minutes and it was hot inside that lifeboat.

We really enjoyed the cruise. We only went to the MDR twice and went around 7:45 and were seated immediately.

Agree with you on embarkation and disembarkation, very quick and easy for us. We normally carry our luggage off on short cruises as we only take 2 small cases.

  6. Hello all!

At this point I am super excited about my upcoming cruise and am in the midst of a single digit dance!

Quick question, there are 3 of us going on this cruise, and we each have a bottle of wine to take (I understand the 1 750ml bottle per person). Are we able to also take on a 12-pack of soda or is the bottle of wine that one person's limit?

    Thanks!

You can bring a bottle of wine and a 12 pack of soda as long as the soda is cans, not bottles.

  8. After our first cruise years ago I dreamed of having long list of Cruise's as I read Post's on hear I can't help but see the negative posts seem to grow ad the signature cruise numbers do. At 59 years old couple days ago I am happy with my short cruise list. Secure in that I have enjoyed each one. And am so excited to go next Saturday. Makes me feel so young. So happy to have another balcony room. One deck up from lido 1061. Pumped that thanks to cc I got fttf. At last minute. Got cheers package. Am able to do cheap internet package to check on my 87 year old parents while we are gone. As mostly that my wife gets to cruise after finishing chchemo for the second time in 8 years. Any one want to guess if we are going to have a good time starting next sat Nov 6th on the valor?

You and John Heald must think alike, he posted this question on FB today.

Can I ask a somewhat rhetorical question............do you think that the more you cruise the more you find fault with "the little things"?

I will explain why I ask this next week but for my own curiosity please answer yes or no
