I just received a robocall, and have confirmed this with my NCL cruise consultant that the 13 day Greek Isles & Italy from Rome has been cancelled due to unforeseen mechanical problems.  Way to give us a few days notice NCL.

What part of UNFORESEEN do you fail to comprehend?

Sorry if this question has been asked before, but does anyone know if NCL (Escape in particular) has either Diet Sierra Mist or Diet Ginger Ale?  Was wondering if I should bring my own.  Thanks.

    https://www.ncl.com/faq#!#can-i-bring-water-or-soda-board

Effective for sailings July 15, 2016 and beyond, guests are prohibited from bringing any beverages -- including liquor, beer and non-alcoholic drinks such as water, soda and juices -- on board either as carry-on or checked luggage, with the exception of purified or distilled water in factory-sealed containers for use in conjunction with medical devices or for the reconstitution of infant formula; and fully sealed and/or corked wine bottles for personal consumption onboard that is subject to screening and a corkage fee (for guests 21 years of age or older). Open beverages of any kind must be consumed or discarded at the security check-point, on embarkation day and at any port of call. This revised policy brings the company in line with other best practice travel security protocols and reduces the need for individual time consuming screening and package inspection of large volumes of beverages.

Greetings all.  I've seen many posts indicating that NCL has water packages (at ridiculous prices) but historically we've always just brought a case on board.  Is this still an option?

    Thx.

No need to bring water.  NCL has free water at every bar and dining establishment that is perfectly fine.

I just checked & H9 16104 + 16102 are listed as available.  I don’t understand how NCL determine which bids to accept except for profit motivated.  It seems my H5  bid was accepted because they accepted someone else’s bid for a H4/H3 & NCL allowed me to maybe take vacated H5 original spot (although there is still 9 H5 listed as available).  Strangely my original mini suite stateroom isn’t listed as available.  I think when I was upgraded they upgraded someone into my original mini suite.

It is not NCL it is a 3rd party company that does all the upgrades.

  5. Gratuities have not changed...

    What about gratuities?
Unlike most other ships in the cruise industry, there is no required or recommended tipping on our ships for service that is generally rendered to all Guests. While you should not feel obligated to offer a gratuity, all of our staff are encouraged to “go the extra mile,” so they are permitted to accept cash gratuities for exceptional or outstanding service if you care to offer them. Also, certain staff positions (e.g., concierge, butler, youth program staff and beverage service) provide service on an individual basis to only some guests and do not benefit from the overall service charge. We encourage those Guests to acknowledge good service from these staff members with appropriate gratuities. Additionally, there is an 20% gratuity and spa service charge added for all spa and salon services, as well as an 20% gratuity and beverage service charge added for all beverage purchases and an 20% gratuity and specialty service charge added to all specialty restaurant dining and entertainment based dining.

The dining and drink packages have a 20% gratuity that is billed up front.  Other than that there are no gratuities.

I didn't make any kind of offer.  Look up the rooms available (prices seem to have dropped about 30 days prior to the cruise date) and you pay the difference between that price and what you originally paid.  When you call you just asked to upgrade to a different room and they will tell you the cost.  The only thing my travel agent negotiated was the $500 penalty charge, which was waived after talking to a supervisor.

    Or your TA just ate.

I can top that one...another cruise line.  It's 9pm at night.   The newsletter for the next day's events is supposed to be delivered to the room by 8pm.    It's not there.  I want to go to bed but I also want to know what's happening the next day.   I go to the front desk, figuring they have a copy.    Nope...I don't see it.    I wait in line and nicely ask "Could I have today's newsletter? Mine didn't arrive."   The guy rudely points the pile of old newsletters.   I said "No, what about the one that was supposed to be delivered TODAY, it didn't arrive"   He then lectures me on what day it is, where we JUST were and that he showed me "today's" newsletter.   I said "Fine, give me TOMORROW's newsletter"    He says "Well, if that's what you wanted, you should have asked for it".   And note...every encounter with diff folks at that front desk was similar.

Bottom line - every cruise ship has its rude folks.   Every cruise has moments of lack of service, moments when passengers are rude, staff are rude etc.   1) Every ship has it, you can't escape and 2) If you focus on these things, it'll be really hard to have a "good cruise".   If you accept that there are a few rude moments, but overall, you had a good time, you'll have a better memory of the experience and a have a better cruise.

So he gave you EXACTLY what you asked for and HE is rude?

That would be the breakaway to be specific. Ive never experienced such rude staff in all my years of cruising as I have on the breakaway.

Staff is rude. They dont respond when asked a question. My wife and i asked a young lady what exactly is the ice bar and her literal response was "what does it look like". My wife was ready to jump across the podium at this woman.

I literally watched a bartender argue with a customer over a drink. Got in the customers face as if he were going to fight. How did this happen? Is there anything that can be done to better this situation on Norwegian?

People pay good money to go on vacation to relax. Not to be at odds with staff.

    You LITERALLY watched , WOW!

Wow. They must be crazy. 🤨 I was just on the Escape 2 weeks ago with the $25 limit and average pricing. How quickly and without notice things change with NCL.

Outside of using my Platinum vouchers or if I happen to have the SDP perk, I will be dining at MDR or OSheehans. Or even the buffet. This is just OTT greedy so I will be keeping my wallet closed regarding NCL specialty restaurants and save my money for many of NYC's fine steakhouses and French restaurants.

Without notice / quickly,  brought to you by the department of redundancy department.

This will be my first cruise with NCL and have previously only been on cruises where you have to dress for dinner (i.e. always trousers with a casual shirt as a minimum). I need to plan what I'm taking and I can see from other threads on here that I can wear shorts in most restaurants and presumably a T-shirt with those are fine? What type of shoes can I wear - are trainers (sneakers) OK to wear?

Le Bistro (any other restaurants on Epic?) needs long trousers - do these have to be smart trousers or are smart jeans OK? What type of shoes to go with these - do they have to be smart shoes or again are trainers (sneakers) acceptable?

The fewer different types of shoes etc., the better as I'm travelling to/from the port by train so don't want to be carrying lots of clothing & shoes.

Tshirt, jeans, and tennis shoes are fine for ALL dining establishments.

When I purchased 4 cruise next certificates - my account was charged $1,000 and a credit was applied for $500.  So my feeling is that is why you were told it couldn't be used to play the slot machines!  Does this make sense?  In other words you are charged the $250 per certificate but immediate given the credit - obc why they call it that is beyond me - you buy 1 certificate or 2 or 4. Example 2 certificates you are charged $500 and given a $250 credit.

The OBC for a CN voucher is fully refundable.  But cannot specifically use any OBC to offset a specific charge to your acocunt.  Can you imagine the nightmares at guest services.

If I am wrong then I apologize - I use my non-refundable NCL obc stock credit (usually $100 for a 7 day sailing) and I use my Latitudes non-refundable obc credit to play the slots with).  I am not going to post my final bill but rest assured if I owed money I would know this and I do know I have to pay the DSC as the non-refundable obc cannot be used for the DSC but absolutely can be used to play the slots.    If I am spreading misinformation I am sorry.

You have no idea which line chargrs were offset by your non-refundable OBC.  I can assure you that it was NOT Casino cash advances.

  13. I think it used to be a sticker but now it is printed on your card.  You can get a travel mug (or whatever you want to call it).  They will give you one when you buy the soda package on board or if you pre-purchase just go to teh desk where the soda pass is being sold, show them yoru card, and ask for one.

I only have non-refundable OBC from NCL credit card points,  but the last night I get an accurate printout of OBC left and hightail it to a slot machine and play that amount, but then I just cash it out with a 3% loss and take it home.

Nonrefundable OBC will not be used to offset casino charges (other than MAYBE the 3% fee).  So all you are doing is increasing your final account balance.

  15. 20 hours ago, tokidoki said:

as I said, u get the exact amount available,  and I dont spend anymore money, so I go to a Slot machine and I extract the amount to play, but instead I Cashout and go to machine with voucher.  U could get the money from cashier, they take out 3% that was charged to card on file.  I also prepay my service charges so I always leave with a Zero balance, just my cash!!!

I don't know anyone named "U" and why would I give him my money?  Anyway, your plan MIGHT work as long as that is refundable OBC.  Otherwise you just added more charges to your account.

  16. 19 hours ago, ddlb said:

You use your cabin card - you put it in the slot machine (note you might have to go to the cashier and get a pin #).  Then you follow the prompts on any slot machine to add money (I think it is confusing the first time) to your players account which has 3% deducted and then you transfer  it to the machine.  Cash out - take ticket to cashier - and there you go!

And you just charged money to your on board account, you did not specifically use OBC.  If you have unused REFUNDABLE OBC it might be used to offset the charge.

  17. Are you talking GTY or SailAway.  They are different animals.  Sailaway can be any cabin of any type (at least the major level you book, inside, ocean view, etc) anywhere on the ship.

GTY is (normally) any cabin of the type you booked (IA, O2, BC, etc) and as long as that cabin type is not marked obstructed view you are good.

Of course everything is subject to changed and everything is right on course!
