  1. I heard one of the ship's engineers talking about this..... he said they use both evaporators (distillation) and reverse osmosis to desalinate sea water. In either case the end product is very very clean water.
  2. No, this isn't new. It's just that not everyone who ignores this rule gets caught every single time.
  3. Forgive me if my post sounds snarky, I certainly don't intend it as such...... I used to pre-purchase bottled water from Carnival before each cruise but have since decided to bring an insulated water bottle. I keep it filled with water and ice from the buffet and honestly can't tell the difference between that and bottled water, plus there's less plastic waste to be recycled.
  4. A similar question...... what about the $25 free play I get as a Platinum. I understand that I can't ever get that $25 back as cash, if by chance I get ahead by a few dollars how do I move those winnings to my S&S account? (If you can't guess it I'm a total newbie at anything related to the casino).
  5. We're from the US, flying to Sydney early next year for a cruise to New Zealand. I've just finished submitting applications for our NZeTA's via their website and I'm afraid I might have screwed mine up. I understand that we're supposed to be charged for the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVA) on a "VISIT" NZeTA, but not for a "TRANSIT" NZeTA. I also gather from their information that for a cruise we'll need a "VISIT" NZeTA. I swear that I checked "VISIT" on my application, but the web site never charged me for the IVA, however it did charge the IVA on my wife's application. On the other hand, the wording on our acceptance emails is identical ..... "You are now authorised to travel to New Zealand or to pass through Auckland International Airport as a transit passenger while you are on your way to another country." Can anyone here advise how I might determine if I have the correct NZeTA? I've been searching on the web and so far haven't found anything. Thanks.
  6. With a set dining time you can go to the dining room on embarkation day to see which table you've been assigned. If you're not happy with your assignment the Maitre D will be available in the dining room and will accommodate your request if at all possible.
  7. We were on Spirit, parked right next to you in Nassau. Yes, it was a bit rough after departing Nassau, but honestly not horrible, I've been in far worse. As far as Half Moon Cay, it's very possible you will be able to make that stop since the winds are currently from the northeast and Half Moon Cay is on the leeward side of the island. I bet it wasn't much fun going 45 minutes with just emergency lighting, and I'm guessing that messed up dinner for anyone who hadn't finished eating yet. Let us know how it goes.
  8. This time in Nassau we thought we'd skip excursions and just walk around. Our first stop was the new Junkanoo Museum at the port. It was extremely disappointing, a small interactive display demonstrating sounds made by various musical instruments and two rooms displaying costumes.
  9. We've been on 20 cruises with Carnival and it's been several years since we've seen a show that was new to us. I have talked to a couple of different cruse directors and performers about the shows, so far there's no indication that Carnival will be changing out any of them. Now we rarely go to the shows unless we're cruising with newbies. I really really really wish they'd come up with some new ones. This is one of the reasons I'm booking future cruises on other lines. (John Heald, are you listening?)
  10. Are you taking into account the fact that prices shown are per person, and once you start the booking process what you see is total cruise cost for the entire cabin which includes taxes and port fees?
  11. I see a lot of people talking about the spray on a cove balcony, but that wasn't an issue at all when we had a cove. It was midship on Magic, under the dining room.
  12. I just got off of Glory 4 days ago, it's in good shape.
  13. My personal opinion is that I'd always take a balcony over ocean view, I'm sure others have differing opinions. We've had a cove balcony just once and liked it. We spend a lot of time sitting on our balcony either reading or enjoying a drink and watching the water go by. It just depends on what you like.
  14. I suppose a lot of people would consider me to be "elderly". Can you be more specific about the differences between Carnival and Princess. I haven't been on a Princess ship yet but am considering it.
  15. Carnival REALLY should come up with a better system than this. John doesn't have a consistent schedule, sometimes he's not available because he's travelling, lately he's had to deal with family issues, etc. etc. AND, from my experience I'd go with a) linking your bookings ahead of time and then b) visiting the Maitre'd in the dining room as soon as possible after you get on the ship, often times there will be an announcement as to when he/she will be available.
  16. I've recently booked what I later discovered will be our 25th cruise with Carnival and I've been attempting to understand our milestone reward. Both my wife and I will reach our 25th milestone on the same cruise. Will we be able to combine our rewards and effectively get a 50% OBC for any subsequent cruise? Or will we need to use our rewards on separate cruises, one booked under her VIFP account and one under mine?
  17. The Coast Guard has suspended its' search. https://www.gulflive.com/news/2023/11/coast-guard-suspends-search-for-louisiana-man-who-went-overboard-from-carnival-glory-cruise-ship.html
  18. Yep, that's what I'm wondering, whether one needs to edit their online check-in or if it's acceptable to simply show up at the port with different documents.
  19. We cruise in a few days and my daughter couldn't figure out where her passport was. She finally located it so all is well, but that got me to wondering about something. Say you've done online check-in and told Carnival you'll be using a passport, put in your passport information, etc...... what happens if you can't find it and show up at the port with a birth certificate and driver's license?
  20. Cans or cartons, but not bottles. You can also replenish your soda on a port day and bring another 12 pack on board with you.
  21. I've read that approximately 40% of guests get a post-cruise survey. From my experience I'd think that number is in the ballpark.
  22. Yep, that's the plan. In over 20 cruises with Carnival I've never come across this before. I figured that the best chance of finding someone who'd experienced this would be the CruiseCritic panel of experts.
  23. I didn't ask if passengers have ever had to get in a lifeboat, but thanks for the help anyway. I recall reading that when Freedom had the stack fire passengers were initially sent to their muster stations. In such a case it would be nice to be able to keep my family together.
  24. My wife, adult daughter, and myself are cruising on Carnival Glory soon with our daughter in her own cabin next to ours. When we booked this cruise my wife and I had a much better rate than our daughter so it's booked with my wife and daughter in one cabin and me in the other, and I'll just get a spare room key for my wife once on board. As it turns out I'll have a different muster station than my wife and daughter. I've never seen this asked before, and I'm assuming the answer is a resounding NO since we're dealing with life boat capacity, but I'll ask anyway....... is it possible to have my muster station changed?
