Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Thank you, I wasn't aware of this. This is a type of a tip that can be used to further asses the situation as embarkation date nears.
  2. Voyager - 16May2024 - 11 nights - Barcelona-Athens GTY rate when reserved $1290pp GTY rate today $2667pp
  3. Okay then, thank you everyone. I'll just keep watching my papers. I'll make sure to arrive to the check in early in case there's no assigned cabin by the sail date. I think this might be the most sure way to grab a cabin from the last remaining block of available cabins on the sail date, in case they remain overbooked.
  4. Looks like the cruise that we booked is super popular. I booked it while being aboard our last cruise so we're only out $200. At this time I see that only GTY category is available, with no option to pick your own interior room. This tells me that RCL is fully booked for this cruise. Sure, it's not yet past the final payment date, so some reservations will drop off. However, seeing that I likely reserved close to the bottom price I suspect that my chance of getting cancelled by RCL are too high for my liking. After all, they have showcased that they are now willing to overbook a cruise beyond reasonable numbers. I don't have additional obligations that tie RCL to my booking such as a corresponding Air2Sea, or port excursions. A few hundred bucks will be committed to the internet, and maybe a dining package, but that's about it. This is a cruise that I don't want to miss or change dates. I already have my plane tickets, and some hotel reservations. What can I possibly do to elevate my chances of not getting cancelled as was done to some people this year in Australia? Would bidding early and higher for RoyalUp in any way elevate my chances?
  5. We travel as a three-generation family. Two cabins. Three adults and three kids. We buy at least two Surf + Stream and it's tough to time-slot-share it across six devices. So, now we can continue to buy two and yet get three complimentary access. This is a very good and sensible benefit for families. Internet access is a commodity. RCL will continue to make very beefy profit on internet access but at the same time will make experience more enjoyable for families with kids.
  6. This is news to me, and I hope this is going to be what it says. If true, then for families with kids this would be very beneficial both in financial terms and with regards to removal of a major headache of trying to find where you kids are on the ship. Full Surf&Stream account access is much, much better than the broken in-app messaging. The free onboard messaging via the app is too buggy as most of the time there's no reliable confirmation that message was send, delivered, or read.
  7. These slow speeds diminish the brand value of Starlink because upcoming high speeds and video streaming were prominently mentioned in the original public announcement by Royal in 2022. If a rental company were to limit Tesla's speed to 50mph, and max range to 200 miles, then Tesla and not the rental company would bear the wrath of clients. The current word on the street is: Royal got Starlink on their ships, prices are up, speeds are slightly better. Bottom line: Starlink internet sucks at sea. Consumers prefer simplistic explanations.
  8. Emergency situation is over and we're on our way to St. Kitts. Photo of an emergency services (coastguard?) boat from Martinique that took away our ill passenger and their companion. Person masked for privacy reasons. Many dozen of Enchantment's crew participated in this emergency evacuation, as at one point they were expecting a medevac helicopter to lift gurney without landing. The chopper never came, and instead a boat with medics came.
  9. Unfortunately, these speeds would make Elon Musk cringe. RCL can do many things on their end to improve the experience for cruisers. The good thing is that much better speeds are possible as evident by experience of others on on other ships. We're getting 1/30 of what's expected.
  10. my experience hasn't been good. I have a week old Pixel 7 phone. My connection is better than before Starlink, but still not awesome. I was able to make a video call over WhatsApp from the middle of the Bermuda Triangle but otherwise hiccups are frequent and overall speed feels like a good 5Mbps connection and not like a 100Mbps
  11. I'm on Enchantment at the moment. She had a medical emergency at Barbados earlier this afternoon but departed with a minor delay. However, later tonight we started racing towards Martinique and now have been adrift for a couple of hours facing Fort-de-France from about five miles away. Emergency medical insurance is a must for anyone who travels outside the territory where their home medical coverage has effect.
  12. I ordered this for our cruise that was last week on Wonder out of Barcelona. This purchase brought us very little value for the following reasons: Tap water served and available at drink stations through The Wonder was of very very good quality. No taste, balanced PH. Same with the dispensed ice. The San Pelegrino still water that is in the cans did have a noticeable can taste. It was better than nothing and convenient to take a few cans with us on our excursions, but whenever we could we would just grab a chilled bottle from a local convenience store. We left about a dozen unused cans in our cabin at the end of the week. I would have been perfectly fine if we just brought an empty water bottle with us and filled it with ice and water at Café Promenade on deck 5.
