If you look really closely, you can see Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster carving out square edges ending in a curved end of that tan sandbar….The square edges are of the reflection above. But the sandbar does look a bit like a marlin with a curved beak.
I hope that y'all are looking at the picture on a large (32") high res (4k) monitor and not on your phones... Otherwise it is a Roshak test...
You do notice that the front and rear propulsion are moving it from left to right on the screen. If it goes straight across it will hit part of the sandbar...

The stuff at the bottom of the image above is 100% a reflection on glass. Even a little bit of a zoom in shows that.
Not saying that there wasn't churned up sand, but that picture 100% isn't showing it, only blue water and a reflection.
The sandbar is brown. The one/two reflections are transparent ...

OK. Now I see 2 reflections. Or a second one. Still way way to close to the sandbar.

Previous reports said the reflection on the right is reflection from the helicopter windshield
The top one looks like a reflection perhaps ... The one below it looks like a sandbar ... The bottom one really does not look like a helicopter.
Much closer to an accident than I originally imagined...

OK. Then they were just very shallow...

Yes. That's a reflection in the helicopter's canopy.
Still less than a ship's length from the shore when they did the turn around .

Too bad Edge doesn't have such rare and expensive equipment. Oh, wait......
Perhaps you can explain the picture above? The rear of the ship is way too close to the sand bar...

It is rather obvious why they were sending sand all over the floor. I see a sand bar to the rear right of the ship. Am I the only one who sees the ship in shallow water?
-
@Jim_Iain we just heard that you were on the Edge sailing too close to the Edge (pun intended). 😁

So now we are back to the pictures that show that they are in shallow water posted from the ship...

It's disingenuous to intimate that this area hasn't been thoroughly and accurately charted thru the years.
They chart it every once in a while. But sand drifts and moves with the current. They are not mapping it every day. You are talking about a very small margin of error here.

Do you know they got shallow? Seems unlikely. There’s nothing inherently unsafe about being there. It is an off limits area. That’s different. Do you have alarms that tell you you’re in an off limits area?
I assume they have GPS navigation systems as well as charts. Did the navigation systems show the correct minimum distance? Did the charts? That’s why you do root cause analysis. Instead of posting on social media with no actual evidence.
They have boats with only one foot draft that are showing pictures of their depth finder. When you are with the fishing boats and tour boats you know that something is wrong.
Also you can see the shallows/reefs from earlier pictures posted from the boat.

Trying to imagine how that 16 feet would suddenly disappear....
Apparently you have never driven a boat? The elevation can quickly change and is not 16 feet across all of the ship. A 20 foot increase or decrease is common. The shipping channel is not marked as the captain is off roading it 🤣 The depth can also change by several feet over a short period of time.
I got my boat caught when the depths went from 60 feet to 1 foot.

Edge is 27', to be specific. NOTHING is mention about full speed. In fact, all references are to scenic, slow (360° rotation in place) movement.
At this point I think that they are just lucky that they did not end up stuck on the sand ...
Not to mention the damage to the reefs, etc...

I do tend to fall into a military mindset where the Commander is responsible for everything that does and does not happen in his or her command. Not sure how that applies in this corporate 'command' structure. Right or wrong, I sense a captain being promoted to corporate duties. But first you need to know exactly what failed, when, and why. Otherwise you're firing the coach because the GM signed the wrong players. Looks good on Sports Center but rarely fixes the problem.
Maybe they have a deaf and blind crew? Can't see or hear?
I had alarms on my boat that would go off when I was getting shallow. A cruise ship has much better gear ...

Lots more than she needs.
Cruise ships have roughly a 30 foot draft. That means that the bottom of the ship is only 13 feet above the sand. I have driven powerboats. I would not go full speed in 13 foot of water as the depth can change very quickly.

OK. Has anyone done a Princess Norwegian Fjords cruise? It is looking like HAL vs Princess right now.

OK. I see Eclipse now for 2025. I don't do short 7 day cruises though ...
Skipping May and September looking at June,July, and August ...

I was looking at 2025 cruises ...

I am looking at booking a Norway cruise. Is it true that Celebrity only has E class ships doing these cruises?

I would take the expertise of a Captain employed by RCCL/X over the "expertise" of people on an online messaging board any day. And common sense as well. 😄
Even the RCL captain who took the ship into a storm with 30 footers and burned out one of the azipods and shortened the cruise? What do you call him? Ex captain ...

I am starting to lean towards Princess.
Does Princess have kids running through the hallways at night? This was happening on Millie during a Christmas cruise. The Millie staffing was also an issue. Instead of booking another cruise, I ended up booking a land vacation for next year as the resorts handily outperformed Millie in both food and service.

The picture is a point in the video before they got closer to the sand bar. You can tell from the picture that they are moving left to right on the screen with the propulsion.
If I get bored this weekend I will find out how close they came.
