  1. We have only cruised with Viking. We have done 6 cruises. Our first was in January of 2020. We love them. We stay in PV or DV depending on how important getting to book the optional excursions a little sooner is to us. We are doing the Eastern Seaboard with a post in Montreal this September. It should be beautiful at that time of year! Yes, Veranda, Deluxe Veranda and Penthouse Veranda you either pay or do it yourself and there is a laundry port side on decks 3, 4, 5, and maybe 6. Detergent is included, too. Penthouse Veranda has free pressing and shoeshine, also. Penthouse Junior Suite, Explores Suite and Owners Suite laundry is included. Glad my previous explanation was understandable.
  2. I’m considering bringing some kind of ginger, too.
  3. I believe we are on the same cruise with you. This will be our 6th cruise since 2020. One was even many sea days to French Polynesia for a total of 33 days. We have never even bothered with anything for seasickness, but after seeing some of what these people have experienced… I contacted my doctor to find out what he would suggest for us, just in case.
  4. I hope you are able to reschedule your appointment. Wishing you all the best.
  5. Staffing could also be an issue… just a thought… I don’t know for sure…
  6. “We are very glad that we chose to let Viking make our flight plans for us, as now they are planning how to get us home.“ Exactly what I said to my husband when I saw your ship was delayed arriving at port. We prefer to book with Viking, because it gives you an extra layer of help when there are issues. Another layer is using a travel agent. Enjoy the rest of your cruise and stay safe.
  7. I understand your disappointment. We ended up booking a post in Barcelona and using Viator to see Parc Guell and La Sagrada Familia . It actually turned out better for us doing that. Good luck! Enjoy your cruise!
  8. Your question seems like what happened to us. We did the last leg of what could have been a much longer cruise. Some people started the cruise in Turkey (I believe), we boarded near Rome. We disembarked in Barcelona. Then, the ship turned around to go the opposite direction with a new group. Well, by the time we could book any of the extra excursions we wanted, everything was SOLD OUT. We were in a DV cabin, but I think even PV cabins probably missed out on many excursions. Now, we take this aspect into consideration when booking cruises that are part of a longer cruise before turning around.
  9. Yes, depending on Yes, you can send it out and pay for it, but for suite it is even include: Complimentary laundry, dry cleaning, pressing and shoeshine services.
  10. I’m hoping it is a temporary solution because of supply chain issues and not the way of the future… I will be interested to see if they are still there when we are back on the Star in September. Instead of having the detergent put in by pressing a “button”, Viking had a container of Tide (I think that was the brand) Pods to use. So, I’m hoping it’s temporary… 🤞
  11. I’m sorry, but since the different machines on the Viking Star significantly affected my last cruise, I wanted advice on how they worked. I will be back on the Star in September and may need to use them. I was also curious if other Viking ship have them. I don’t care about people’s opinions on them. I just wanted to know how to use them, if I end up needing them. So, this question definitely has to do with cruising on Viking.
  12. Is it like I thought and you don’t come back until the clothes are all washed and dried?
  13. I went up to deck 5 on the Star and the machines were all in one just as the people from deck 5 said. Viking had detergent pods for people to use in those machines. I travel with carry on only, so I am a pro at the normal Viking laundry room. Lol
  14. I agree with you that the lack of drawers in the closet on the Star made unpacking a bit more inconvenient.
  15. On our last cruise on Viking Star in January the laundry on deck 4 was overrun by guests from deck 5 coming down to use the laundry. They did this because on deck 4 the washer and dryers were separate machines as opposed to deck 5 where the machines were a combination machine doing both washing and drying. My question is has anyone had an experience with the combination machines on Viking ships. Are they difficult to use? I would think it might be nice not to have to stop back to switch over your wash. If that is how it works. Trying to learn before our cruise in March, in case we end up having them on our deck. BTW We will be on deck 4 on the Viking Venus. Thanks for an info…
  16. Our first cruise with any cruise line was in January of 2020. I had the same concerns about judgmental people due to comments on FB Viking groups, especially concerning dress codes. I quit those groups. People, for the most part, feel free to be nastier online than in person. Before our next cruise in December of 2021 I rejoined those FB Viking groups only to discover them complaining about people like myself who prefer to travel with carry on only. So I have quit those FB groups again and only do Cruise Critics! BTW We have done 5 Viking cruises and have met many very nice people!
  17. So… did the insects force guests to stay inside? Were they mainly an issue at night or all the time? For excursions did you need mosquito clothing or just insect repellent? Thanks for any advice.
  18. We just got back from Viking’s Panama and Central American cruise and saw sloths, caiman, lizards, beautiful birds and so much lush vegetation, especially in Costa Rica. Your comment about “Just being on Viking Sea a thousand miles from the ocean was somewhat mind blowing” is something I hadn’t considered. Thanks for this prospective.
  19. Sorry that you didn’t realize that you had to book the time you wanted even for the included excursions. I try to book anything I want as soon as they open for my cabin category. We even decided to pay substantially more for a higher cabin category so that we could book excursions sooner. If you don’t use the My Viking Journey App/website, I suggest using it and checking it often. It has so much good information. Another thing we like are the live chats that are often available using it. Some issues might be resolved by using the chat feature. Don’t worry about reservations for dining. Even if you miss out on the prime dining times for Specialty Dining, the other options are outstanding! I hope you can relax between now and your cruise. Hopefully, you will enjoy your time on the lovely Viking Ship and find that you love Viking as much as we do.
  20. We used to live 1/3 of a mile down a private road surrounded by farm fields. Even if it didn’t snow we had to worry about blowing and drifting. Now we live in a beautiful apartment and can leave at the drop of a hat!!! When we were gone for about 7 weeks last winter on 2 cruises we just texted our landlord about 2 days before returning home and he turned the heat back up!
  21. Windows do go down halfway. I was on the Octantis in May.
  22. We went on the Octantis for it’s first cruise in Georgian Bay and Lake Superior last May. We were supposed to go kayaking and they did provide what I believe was a dry suit (not a wetsuit)with boots as the water in the Great Lakes in May is very cold. I unfortunately hurt my knee prior to the kayaking excursion and didn’t feel able to go from the RIB to the kayak.
