  1. Thank you for that recommendation - I will have a look and that is a reasonable price point. Looking forward to our cruise; only a few months now!
  2. Thank you for your post; it is very kind and reassuring. We are very much looking forward to it and will provide our feedback once we have travelled.
  3. Have our first cruise (on Viking, and ever), Into the Midnight Sun, in June. Thread is making me a little apprehensive but a lot of the YouTube videos I’ve watched still make me think we will enjoy it.
  4. Anyone have any suggestions on brands/type? I don’t want to spend a lot as it is purely for our Into the Midnight Sun in June - but if they’re that bad, I would get my own.
  5. Will be interested to hear how you find it. We have 8012 for our Into the Midnight Sun in June.
  6. We’ve bought the package for our first Viking cruise (and first cruise) primarily for convenience. It probably won’t work out more economical - but I’ve heard that people remember the drinks you like, you don’t have to worry about signing to your room etc. Given the cost of a 15 night cruise, a few hundred extra per person makes sense for the convenience for us.
  7. You’re not meant to leave the door open though for the HVAC.
  8. Travelling from Australia, where tipping isn't customary, I note gratuities are specified as being included. We don't propose to tip (when we go on our first cruise) on a regular basis - but we may seek certain people out at the end. I imagine that staff are familiar with different tipping cultures and perhaps it genuinely is included in our fare? Or only people from the US tip, perhaps.

    Viking dining

There is probably another thread to ask this - but on searching, most of them seem to be quite old. But, how well do Viking currently cater for gluten free? I see that they do seem to identify which foods contain gluten now - but not sure if they will specifically cater for, or whether we need to notify in advance? Edit: Nevermind - it seems it is well covered in this thread: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2841263-dietary-restrictions/
  10. Hopefully we can keep this on topic to Viking experiences and not other cruise lines
  11. Some amazing stories. I can’t wait for our first cruise (ever, and on Viking) next year (June, Into the Midnight Sun).
  12. Strangely I only have to pay ~ 6 months out (first time cruiser). Not sure if matters who you book through - as I'm Viking Australia.
  13. So while I was happy to stay with our original room, my partner really wanted to be on port side - so we switched to 8012 from 5009. While a lower category (there are no other PV rooms available on port side), seems we were a little lucky it was even available.
  14. So I just happened to change to 8012 from 5009 (so DV1 from PV2) - seems I was lucky it was available! My partner really wanted port side hence the change (and there was no PV's available port side).
  15. Thank you everyone! Not sure how I got the port/starboard mixed up. Must have misinterpreted the deck plan. Glad it doesn’t really matter that much! We will keep our room (5009). Also to answer a question - we are sailing June 2023. This is not only our first Viking cruise, but our first cruise! Appreciate all your answers.
  16. Hi all, So we are planning our delayed trip from 2021 - and will be sailing in 2023 from London to Bergen. We originally had stateroom 4010, starboard side, but have booked a PV2 - room 5009. Unfortunately I think there isn’t a lot of choice now but does anyone have a view of the advantage of being on the starboard side for this itinerary or whether it really matters? I’m guessing it could be advantageous out of London and possibly when travelling south to Bergen (having travelled north)? Or equally, perhaps it doesn’t matter … Appreciate any thoughts. Also if anyone has had room 5009 before …
