The adults only aspect is a big plus for us, just wish it was all inclusive.

Viking includes an excursion in every port, free Wi-Fi, free specialty restaurants, house wine and beer at lunch and dinner, free laundry, and free thermal spa.  True - it doesn't include all wines and cocktails, but their drink package is cheaper than others I've used.

Just when on "My Viking Journey" to select our two reservations for the specialty restaurants.  When I click on the tab "table for two" and then try to click on "select day", it tells me no option.  This is happening on both the Mafredi's restaurant and The Chef's Table.  Help.  Anyone else having trouble?

If you have reservations in the Restaurant already, you must delete those first before you can make a specialty reservation.

we have booked the sold out November Viking Sea transatlantic from Barcelona to San Juan. My fears have almost been eliminated, just wondering if the TA will actually be a go and if it is really sold out (930 passengers?)

I emailed Tellus to ask them the question of whether the Sea's TA is actually sold out and received a very carefully worded reply - "All of the cabins that were made available for the cruise have been sold."  Cruise lines are required to have cabins available for quarantine in the EU, so other than those cabins, the Sea is sold out.  I'm guessing we will have about 870 passengers.

Yes, and it is Viking's daily testing which is not an Iceland requirement that serves to "confirm" a close contact. Land tour and other visitors to Iceland have not been subject to daily testing to my knowledge.

Sorry - I misread your initial post and thought you were saying it was Viking's policy to quarantine close contacts.  You're correct - if Viking hadn't been doing the daily testing, the positive person would not have been found.  My bad.

  5. In this case it WAS Iceland's policy to quarantine close contacts of positive cases.  Here's what Viking says on close contacts in their Health and Safety FAQ:

Viking’s policy is that close contacts who are fully vaccinated do not have to quarantine. This policy is in line with current CDC guidelines. However, a different approach may be required when in a destination, depending on the local situation at the time.

I never thought I would miss the Jeans in The Restaurant discussion 😉 Thanks JeriGail!

I know - so many of these threads provide such important information, but sometimes they veer off course a bit.  I'll be checking the pants I'm planning on wearing to the Restaurant to make sure they look nicer than jeans so I won't be the subject of further jean's debate!

  7. Please don' forget CC's COVID-related discussion guidelines:

Effective immediately, COVID-related discussion should be limited to actual policy on board ships (and other forms of travel) and its practical application.  Discussion should NOT veer into opinion or debate.

I'm interested in learning if any EU countries are following the recommendations of the US citizen travel ban.

Hoping someone can answer a question: we are taking a long cruise on the Orion. Are there fitness classes? The pictures of the fitness center seem pretty small, wondering if there are spin bikes. Thank you in advance.

Search You Tube for a Viking Orion Ship Tour and you'll get a better idea of the fitness center size and amenities.

So...how is it that other policies don't provide similar coverages?

And note that "could include" marketing phrase.

I did notice that but thought it could also mean that their might be other "unforeseen circumstances" that don't include COVID.

I hope you would elaborate on the "covers the pandemic" phrase above.

From Viking's Health and Safety page:

Does Viking’s Travel Protection Plan cover COVID-19 costs (e.g., medical treatment, quarantine, repatriation, etc.)?

Yes, our Travel Protection Plan helps protect you from many unforeseen circumstances that may arise before or during your trip, which could include necessary medical, quarantine or repatriation expenses related to COVID-19.

We are considering booking a Penthouse Veranda.  This thread and the sliding door list has been very helpful.  Does anyone have feedback or concerns about noise, obstructed views or excess motion while staying in any of the PVs?

    Thank you for your help.

I have not stayed in one before, but have booked one for an upcoming cruise.  To minimize noise, I booked a 5th deck cabin - between two other cabin decks.  To minimize motion, I tried to get as close to the center of the ship as possible.  I just checked some of my Viking ship photos and can't see much in the way of obstructions for decks 4-6, where the PV's are located.  The one possible obstruction might be the bridge wing for the most forward PV on deck 6.  Check out photos and you can see for yourself.

I agree that those icons seem to mean the same thing.  I guess I will have to wait until I get on Viking Sky in October in Athens to figure it out. I read that one ship has good instructions for the laundry printed out in the laundry room, but I can’t remember which one. I want to spend as little time as possible in the laundry room and also get my laundry out as soon as possible to let someone else use the machines. I pack light so I would hate to ruin my clothes in a washer or dryer.

Your descriptions will go a long way towards a faster laundry trip.  Most of my clothes use delicate/low heat settings, so I'll choose the all of the cooler/delicate options to be sure.

Thanks for all the help finding a photo of the dryer!  I couldn’t figure out one of the icons, so I put a question mark there. The person using the machine in the photo selected a high Heat timed setting and then set it for 79 minutes…isn’t that a little bit long?

For the washer settings, the icons with the question mark is the water temperature, so I would think it would indicate the temperature of the air (low, medium, high) , but you already have heat level for the next set of icons.  That icon does look like a temperature bulb, so heat would make sense.  But it doesn't make sense to have two settings for temperature.

Did you find that bothersome or was it okay in your opinion. Thank you

I haven't been in that cabin, but I have a list of which PV cabins have the slider and which have the door.  I've looked at comments by others and found some that preferred the slider and some that liked the door.  Some liked the big window in front of the sofa, but the door is a bit on the narrow side.  My next cruise has the window plus door arrangement.PV-Door.jpeg.d56180f258c5643d99b8a54e8600a086.jpeg

We are in Penthouse Veranda Cabin 5091 on an upcoming Viking Venus Cruise. As all Viking Ocean ships are laid out the same, does anyone know if this cabin has sliding glass doors or the configuration where there is a fixed glass window with a separate door to the Veranda. Many Thanks!

    5091 has the separate door.
