  1. Be forewarned if you have any sort of criminal conviction or deferred adjudication on record. Royal Caribbean is running background checks on all prospective passengers and will deny boarding if one does not answer their questions or if they are not satisfied with the answers. They don't factor in if you've previously cruised with them and are an Emerald or Diamond member either.

I don't know if they're looking at all felonies/misdemeanors or mainly targeting people listed in the sex offender registry. My advice is to complete your set sail pass well in advance so you're not surprised by this a few days before your cruise. Get your attorney involved if you have one. Possibly contact RC about your background before they contact you about it to show good faith.

This is not meant for people who think registered sex offenders should never be allowed on a cruise ship. I'm aware many people are ignorant about such matters and prone to hysteria so I expect this thread to turn into a flame fest and I probably won't return to it.

No truth to this at all. The cruise line does not do any criminal background check. sheesh:rolleyes:

  2. In all fairness, I said "flame away". I don't feel too bad. Last 7 day cruise we pre-paid my pop package and our on board expenditures was under $90 and that included a tux cleaning and press with two shirts. This time we just happened to have a lot of OBC and to break even on the cash we spent for the drink package for this 8 day cruise I have to drink 3 drinks per day. So I don't feel like I am cheating RCI based on the price they are charging and the amount that will actually be drank.

You can "feel" however you like. It is stealing and your justifying by saying they charge too much doesnt change the facts. You agreed to pay an amount and agreed it was for you not to share. I'm sure there are thieves at all levels that can live with themselves too.

  3. I know we will share. Sounds terrible. But I wasn't thinking about the alcohol. Hubby not much of a drinker and we have budgeted for him to drink on pay per drink basis.

Where I can see us sharing is when I take a bottle or two of water on land that I have picked up the day before. Am I going to share with my dh? You betcha.

Flame away about stealing. But just being honest. Somehow I think the four bottles of water he drinks (four ports) will not cause a major problem.

So the $10 that you are stealing doesnt matter?

    $10 x 3,000 passengers = $30,000

Yeah I'm sure RC doesnt mind a bit.

  4. I've never heard of the 20 minute rule between drinks. Is this true? There are many times when out with my hubby I will order a drink, drink it very quickly and then order another right away. I won't be able to do that on the ship?

I'm not going to have drink after drink after drink etc. Just sometimes I can drink a drink very quickly and then immediately get another and then just nurse that one.

There is no 20 minute rule.

  5. From what I´ve read on here there is a 15 min rule regarding the Coke Freestyle machines. So you can´t get another drink with your RFID souvenir cup within the next 15 min.

Anyway I´m pretty sure that the bar staff will remember who has the package and who not as they do get the 15% service charge from each drink paid extra ;)! Selling single paid drinks is their business and their income. And I don´t think that anyone will say anything when you just take a trial sip.

    steamboats

Not true at all. They do get 15% tip on the package just like the 15% auto for each drink purchased individually. Plus we will throw them $1 with each drink just like we would add $1 when purchased individually. All reports that I have seen say with the package people are getting the same service. We are trying it in 10 days and will report back.

  6. We will be going on Indy on the 18th also.

Agree with you about the l-o-n-g meals. That is the primary reason we avoid the pay for restaurants. We don't choose to make an "event" of eating. Just our opinion, of course...

We also do the specialty rest. for the same reason. Dont like spending 2.5 hrs waiting for what amounts to banquet for 2,000 food. Glad the OP had a good trip.

  7. Just departed ship and had a wonderful time. We stayed in a RFS on deck 9 on the first leg of the cruise with our daughter and niece. Great cabin and other than the weather everything was perfect. Switched to the OS on deck 10 for the second part on our cruise. It was absolutely wonderful. We were able to board the ship on the second b2b right away and get our status upgraded to Diamond within 5 minutes and then ran over to guest services to get our diamond discount of $50 via OBC right away. The food was the best we have had in a long time and never one needed to go to chops or Portofinos. The concierge's in the CL and DL, the head chef and captain Per treated us like royalty. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Was there a diamond breakfast in the MDR?

  8. The thing is... a sense of humor is a valuable thing to have. There are a lot of diseases, conditions, and illnesses that blow the doors off of Celiac. It is certainly disruptive, annoying, and a serious concern to anyone who suffers from it and it causes a lot of inconveniences/problems. However, it is not childhood leukemia, cystic fibrosis, Tay-Sachs, Progeria, or sickle cell.

It's serious, but not to the degree that someone can't make an off-hand funny comment that doesn't insult anyone who suffers from it.

Sad eyes over cake aren't fatal.

    exactly

  9. Ok so now if one person buys an alcohol package everyone in the cabin is not required to purchase.

Not that I would ever do this BUT what is stopping people from buying one per couple then sharing it?

Trust me, my fiancé and I rarely drink so even if we were naughty and bought/shared the package it wouldn't be worth it to us. I will probably only have no more than 3 drinks a day if that many and he might have one a day.

    Just curious.

I agreement that it is for only the person buying it. Do you need more than that?

  10. Thanks for your report. Like a couple of the PPs, I am a smoker (who made the mistake of booking our cruise just before they announced the new policy) who is just looking for the facts, not unsolicited snide remarks and nastiness.

So according to this report, RCCI's promises of easy access to designated smoking areas with sufficient tables, chairs and ashtrays was just another big fat lie. About what I expected. It would seem that this will, indeed, be our last cruise on RC.

    From the non-smokers....Thank you

  11. There is no federal "Law" prohibiting discounts for federal employees, but there is an OPM rule for federal employees prohibiting them from accepting such a discount, unless offered to all. Any cruise line can legally offer a discount, it is up to the employee to decide if they want to take it but perhaps face consequences if caught.

It's interesting that they have dropped the word "federal" from the law enforcement discount, as of a few weeks ago, I think it was still there. My husband is retired federal law enforcement (after 34 years!) and during our 12 years of cruising, we caught such a discount only once. It was interesting that they stressed bringing his badge to show at check in, but we were never asked for it. I have found this to be true for state discounts also, we have never been asked to show proof of residency.

    Sherri:)

Same here. NEVER been asked to show badge or id.

  12. I believe you are correct that Bar Men in the CL are included in the automatic 15% gratuity pool charged against all drinks sold on board. In addition to that those assigned to the CL receive cash gratuities from those in the lounge that are not pooled. The CL is considered a "plum" assignment on board.

Exactly. My only point was that you dont need to tip them any more than you would normally leave over the 15% at any of the other bars. That being said we usually tip $1 per drink. The concierge gets tipped based on how much we ask him to do. We tipped $50 on the Liberty but didnt really have him do much. Our our last cruise on the Jewell we tipped nothing as the was no DL and the lounge they set up was a joke and the concierge never made an appearance.

  13. I am talking about tipping the servers who serve the 'free' drinks in the concierge/diamond lounges. I was explaining how one could come up with an 'appropriate figure', since no tipping guidelines are suggested for the lounge servers.

I am talking about the same people. Servers/ bartenders in the cl receive the same money from the tipping pool as the other employees. The server in the CL that you give $1 is making the same money as the server in the schooner bar when you give them $1.
