  1. I understand that one of the Royal Suite amenities is Unlimited complimentary specialty dining.

I want to make dining  reservations for an upcoming cruise but when I do I am "charged" - the fee would be deduced from my on-board credit which I want to go to Tours.

So ... how to a reserve using my "amenity?"

I tried to call Celebrity but the wait time is too long ..

    Thanks

It was really easy to get the ETAs for both countries online directly through the respective government websites.  I made notes of the steps, I imagine the Canadian experience would be the same as US.

For Australia I used this link to get to the Australian government visa site: https://www.eta.immi.gov.au/ETAS3/etas

There are 7 steps, all pretty straightforward. First step is choose type of via, a tourist visa and agree to the terms.  Then in step 2 you put in your passport information.  It asked if you had any other names, alias.  I do, my former married name, so checked yes but it didn't ask for the other name. Step 3 is your contact information.  It asks for you phone country code, I looked it up and put in +1.  Hope that is correct.  It didn't like dashes in my phone number, so type in just numbers.  Steps 4-7 are review, payment $20 AUD, credit cards accepted), and reference numbers.  I received two emaisl almost immediately after submitting, the first that the applications was pending and the second that my application was successful and had been electronically attached to my passport.  The visa is good for 1 year from the date of application.  At the end there was an option to apply for another ETA (visa)  Round two for my husband went quicker.

For New Zealand I went to https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-zealand-visas/apply-for-a-visa/about-visa/nzeta  I scrolled down to "Request an NZETA" then clicked on the link to the online web form.  It also asked for pretty much the same information as Australia but did ask for my former last name.  The charge is $12 NZD for the visa and an additional $35 NZD for a tourism levy for a total of $47 NZD.  I received two emails within a minute that my application had been pending and then approved and electronically attached to my passport.  There wasn't an option to apply for another one so I had to go back to the main page to start over for my husband.

Easy peasy.  Total time for both (and for two people) was less than 1/2 hour, and that included taking notes of the steps and being extra careful when I was typing my information.

    Thank you for the information

Used the NZ gov't free app which was super easy:  Scanned passports -  took Selfie's - verified information - paid !  Amen

    No typing ..........

Had email "pending" statement within minutes and "confirmation" in 4 hours   NZeTA attached to submitted passport

AUS does not have such an App

    Had confirmation in minutes and

  3. That is Nepresso   Thank you

I love a cuppa 1st thing in the morning   No waiting for room service or walking the short distance to the Observation Bar

I don't need a Fancy cup - just enough to get the eyes opened

We were on the Ovation in June  of 2018 and did not have a machine in the PH

Thankyou all for your replies. Finally, I was able to contact them. The deviation fee is $100 per person and will stay due to the fact that we made our own reservation through Movenpick in Amsterdam for 3 days before the cruise starts. We will be flying back right after the cruise but a deviation fee is a deviation fee. If we made all the arrangements with Viking then we would have a credit or a refund. I made them on the side since they saved us a few pennies... but it didn't in the end... =(

Will there is an addition fee for changing flights?

  5. RE: Credit cards & ATM cards:    Not fun to need to use a card and find it denied    We have found ourselves sitting in a foreign airport ( Amsterdam ) calling our credit card company so we could get a cup of coffee and a cab.

Now we  just contact them before we leave the country.

Traveling is fun   One learns a LOT

  6. I am taking a similar cruise on Viking   I like to have local currency so have the flexibility to purchase what ever may catch my eye If they do not take credit cards what does one do ?

What about WC charges like in other European countries?  One always needs small currency to use the WC

Always notify your ATM bank that you will be out-of-the-country   Always !

Unless it has recently changed, we could get coffee and juice and pastries and croissants in the Observation Lounge after 6 am or 6:15 am on both the Quest and Odyssey.  Hardly anyone is up there ( one attendant) and it was one of my favorite times.

You can also carry stuff back to your suite to sip there, but you should save a paper cup with lid from SB Square, or BYO mug,  if you want a large amount, and use it there.

Love the early morning Coffee service in the Observation lounge.  Our cabin was 3 doors away !   Felt like it was my private area for I was the only one there.  The one attendant was always ready with a Cheerful greeting and willing & wanting to be helpful

Hi all - We are going on our first Seabourn cruise Aug. 3 from Copenhagen and would be very interested in a referral coupon if anyone has one they'd be willing to share. We're here in the US, if that helps, and I can be reached at gina  [the thing that goes between the first part of an address and the second] lintqueen [a punctuation mark meaning "full stop"] com.

    Thanks!

    Gina

Did you get a Referral coupon for your Aug 3rd cruise?  I have one available. Will try to email  you

As I understand it, referral credits cannot be combined with any other OBC from Seabourn and that may include some OBC's from your TA and Amex Platinum OBC.  In other words, if any of your OBC credit comes from Seabourn, it cannot be combined with referral credit.  You can choose which credit you want but, not both.

Not really sure what you mean by "penthouse credit"

Thank you   the dredit I have is from Seabourn so assume can't combine.   Appreciate the knowledge for next time.

We will be on the Viking Lif 8-22 April 2020, BUD-AMS. Of course the optional excursion details won't be posted until October, but I was wondering if anyone out there had done this tour and what are your impressions of it. Rothenburg is a must-see place for my wife and I, and I am wondering if the tour will give us much time there, will there be a knowledgeable guide to explain stuff - that sort of thing. And please tell me they don't make everyone eat some Shneeballen!

Did the Rothenburg - one of my favorite places - tour with Viking  last year.  The tour was long enough in my opinion and well worth signing up for !!!

HEY  those "Ballens" are my "Comfort foods"  Just get the pain or powder sugar ones ... the others are not orginial

    General answer for all categories.

Mini-bars are restocked daily except for V category and filled according to cabin category. Additional stock can be purchased regardless of cabin. Mini-bar content is not covered by the drinks package. Even after stocking, there is plenty of room for BYO bottles and groceries (like local cheese and charcuterie).

Free laundry service is a perk for categories PS and above. Free launderette (detergent included) are available to all.

For details of perks for each cabin category, go to https://www.vikingcruises.com/oceans/ships/viking-sea.html

Scroll down and click on See More to see all of the cabins. All six ships are alike, so it does not matter which ship you look at.

    Thanks  We are in PS

    Yes.

We were here when the mini bar guy came through. We asked him to replace the empty bottle of Chardonnay with something else.

He said no problems and left us a nice looking French drop - which we will try tonight.

Thanks   We are on the Jupiter June 9th  transferring from the river Hlin in Amsterdam  Hope the weather improves a tad.

Looking forward to our 1st ocean adventure on Viking

  13. Thanks   I am looking forward to the Explorer suite experience.  We have one booked for this summer and again in 2020

We enjoyed the Suite so know we will be happy

Noise happens.  On one of the Big ships we were in an aft suite which was not only noisy but when the anchors where engaged we were almost Bounced out of bed !

On our Rhine cruise onboard Viking Eir...

...there certainly was no problem with engine noise and even when underway there was no more vibration than one would feel anywhere else on the ship.

    Nice way to travel.

Enjoyed your Blog   SO neat to be upgraded !  We are in an Explorer suite this summer.  One question:  Do they restock the mini-bar ?  Know - with the premium package I don't need to be concerned   Did you use room service ?

We have over 25 ocean cruises under our belts, but are booked on our first river cruise for the Grand European in July. We booked a suite for exactly the same reasons you have.  We do like time alone, was worried about being claustrophobic in a small cabin for 2 weeks and felt like we needed the space. My husband does have to occasionally do a little work and I like to take some time to read and relax, so we probably spend more time in the cabin than most people.  It was not an easy decision to put out that much more money, but we are so excited for this trip,  the itinerary, and the cabin. After reading the above comments, I'm glad we made that choice.

    Becky

We did the Grand European cruise and I am SO happy we booked the suite for the same reasons discussed.  We were very comfortable and enjoyed the separate living and sleeping areas.   The living area has comfortable chairs and small sofa  ...and a nice sized desk for computer use.  Also of importance to us was the bathroom had adequate space !

We were not on=top of each other when in the cabin.

Did find that couples in regular cabins would take turns getting ready for the evening or the day   One member would be sitting out in the lounge giving the other "space"
