  1. Cruiser02, I look forward to meeting you!! Let's compare notes about walkable ports--Visby and Turku. Any others walkable during the first 14 days? We are not going to Berlin from the Polish port as we have been there during the Cold War days. Any other comments you have about ports would be welcome. I've been busy corresponding with our TA yesterday and today.

Will keep in touch. We like to do ports on our own. Most of the ones on this itinerary appear to be charming coastal towns - easy to do. We've been to the big cities several times. Lived in Germany for many years. Need to start my research.

    Please share what yoy learn.

We are from the Seattle area. Where you live?

  2. I don't wear jeans any more because they're not particularly flattering to my (somewhat) matronly, almost 70 year-old figure. But I'm tempted to buy some just for my upcoming Seabourn cruise!

    I'm loving this discussion

I'm a 70-something who wardrobe is full of jeans of various level of style

  3. Hi Experienced Seabourn cruisers

We cruised on many lines but this have just booked our first cruise with Seabourn - Ovation . What should we know about this line that differs from others. I was surprised that "formal nights" still exist.

    All comments appreciated.

  4. cruiser02,

I agree, Mainz is well worth visiting and the surrounding area is lovely. Here is a fun fact. From Mainz on the Rhine to Bernkastel-Kues on the Moselle a river cruise ship on a typical itinerary, i.e. with stops, takes something like two to two and a half days. If you go cross country in a car you can do the trip in an hour and twenty minutes. Past Ingelheim and through the Hunsrück hills. It is a nice drive but of course you miss out all the castles. ;)

Checking distances on google routeplanner I came across the shop of "Bonbon-Willi". He has a small workshop for boiled sweets made in old style in Bernkastel Kues: http://www.bonbon-willi.de/ Looks like a place worth checking out.

Ingelheim I haven't thought about that town for years. What about the longer land route thru Bad Kreuznzach & Idar-Oberstain to Bernkastel ?

  5. You will be scheduled on a flight arriving early morning so there will be enough time for boarding Most likely you will get to the ship way to early to settle into y our cabin.. After flying numerous times to Europe I know that one FADES on the first day ! Trying to sight-see etc is difficult. Bottomline: If you can - go a day or 2 early to rest up for a busy, fun cruise. I've slept thru many a 1st port just plain not being able to wake up.
