  1. I confess I do really love lots of light and big windows! When I first walked into the room on day 1 my impression was that it did seem dark for my tastes, but now that you've reminded me of this I honestly don't know if I got used to it very quickly or if it depended on which side of the ship the sun was on, because I don't remember being bothered by it again 😄 I am a glass half full person though! Sounds like a little shade will be an advantage for you anyway
  2. Sure, here are two more photos (I only took two, sorry a little blurry). As you can see the bed is beside the balcony. I found the room very quiet generally, and would book it again in a heartbeat. One thing I did notice was in tender ports you could hear the anchor drop in the mornings. I was already awake and it did not bother me even a little, but might be an issue for the light sleeper who likes a lie in. It was a lovely room, and I hope you enjoy your cruise as much as I did.
  3. The black cod with quinoa and extra veg on the side.
  4. On my Edge cruise last month, I was given a pop socket with the X logo on it when my team won. I'm certain there were little prizes like these every night. I thought it was quite nice as I wasn't expecting anything.
  5. We flew in from Northern Ireland the night before and stayed at a hotel. Taxi to the port terminal next day. Quick and easy, inexpensive. I liked Southampton more than I expected to from what I saw of it. Seemed nice little shops and cafes near the harbour, and plenty of parks we didnt get a chance to explore. I would happily do the same again in future.
  6. What a wonderful natural storyteller you are, Norris, even when so poorly. Glad to hear you are on the mend and sending good wishes for your continuing recovery and good health.
  7. I agree about the TV choices! I like to have a bit of noise in the background when I'm getting ready for dinner and again in the evening before bed but as you say the options were poor. Luckily I'd downloaded a few shows onto my tablet before I went and that did the trick. Glad you had an enjoyable time and thanks for the review.
  8. The Liars Club was a comedy show I think they do on every sailing. We had the Cruise Director Tim, a comedian who was on board (name escapes me) and Captain Tasos. They each give a definition for an obscure word but only one is telling the truth. It was a riot! Not kid friendly and was on just one night at about 10 or 1030pm in the theatre. I didn't hang out at the pool, sorry! I got a good seat easily in the solarium though. I usually got to the theatre about 10min early. I was travelling solo though so easier for me to get a seat I liked perhaps. Some shows were certainly busier than others. The Charity Lockhart ones were packed, for example. I didn't eat at any specialty restaurants. I went to Cosmopolitan nearly every night because I liked the decor best and the waiter and assistant waiter I had there were just lovely, and again as a solo I liked that bit of familiarity.
  9. Sure, 730pm and 9pm. You can actually look at any sailing on the app, in case you'd like to do that like jwlane suggests. If you click on your profile page, you should see your sailing listed but under that you can click on select a different sailing and see what's showing on any sailing you wish. The current sailing might not be fully the same as yours but gives you an idea.
  10. I was on the Edge one month ago and had a great cruise overall. I admit I'm probably easy to please, as I'm not a foodie, but I really enjoyed the vast majority of the MDR and buffet meals I had. The staff and service were great. The ship is beautiful. There was an amazing singer on called Charity Lockhart, who was the highlight of the entertainment for me, but I don't know how long she'll be on board for. The other shows were pretty good too. And the Liars Club with Captain Tasos was very entertaining. Hope you have an amazing time too!
  11. Had a lovely relaxing day to myself in Ajaccio last month without stepping off the very quiet ship. So much so that I wouldn't mind a port like that (been before and didn't care for) in future itineraries.
  12. I was in 8111 just last month on the Edge. Highly recommend. Its classed as obstructed but it has to be one of the least obstructed DPVs (some have window washing equipment outside which is pretty bulky). I didn't find it claustrophobic at all. Sailing was smooth. Being far forward, I did hear/feel various loud clanks and vibrations when we were docking but I was well awake by then so I didnt care at all. Might bother someone who likes a lie in though. Loved it, in short, and would 100% book again.
  13. Couldn't agree more. Solo cruisers aren't all the same, and I am glad that there are a variety of different approaches by cruise lines to choose from. We all want different things from our holiday, whether cruising solo or not. I have sailed twice as a solo, once on NCL and once on Celebrity. NCL seems most frequently lauded as the "best" line for solos here on CC, and I did enjoy that cruise (I will enjoy any cruise where I get to, you know, cruise 😉) but Celebrity was infinitely better for me and my personality as I prefer to spend time by myself, dont want to feel any pressure to join in, and like the laid back approach. Whereas NCL was just too much, for me personally, and I felt sapped of energy most of the time. But we are all different.
  14. There were solo meetups advertised daily in the planner on my recent sailing. I didn't go as I just wanted to potter about by myself, but it's a good option if you would like to meet new people. I mostly chatted to people on excursions and at the nightly quizzes. Like writtenonyourheart, I sat by myself in the MDR and felt perfectly comfortable in so doing but there may well have been a solo table too that I didn't know about. Above all, enjoy!
  15. NCL did when I cruised with them but that was in 2016. Someone in another thread recently spoke about a solo table on Celebrity but I didn't experience that myself.
  16. As a Norn Irish girl, I'm looking forward to seeing the city through your lens! Funnily enough I saw your Apex sailing going up Belfast lough that evening, and was very excited to see it as I was off the Edge only four days previously. Hopefully you enjoyed your visit back after all those years. Thanks for the very entertaining commentary and beautiful photos so far.
  17. Your photos are absolutely beautiful. Really helpful to see what you are up to in the ports as well, as I'm thinking of Infinity for the same itinerary next year. Thanks for sharing
  18. The friendly staff and service The hash browns in the OVC The solarium with a good book, a mint lemonade and nothing but ocean for miles Cafe al bacio How visible the officers are around the ship A little chocolate on my pillow at night The sound of the waves from the balcony as the sun sets in the evening
  19. Show times on my Edge sailing this month were 7:30pm and 9pm, so I assume it must vary from ship to ship?
  20. Not sure about difference in aft and forward balcony size but the obstruction is window washing equipment both aft and forward. Here's a photo I took a few weeks ago on the Edge. I was in 8111. The equipment is on the far side of the cabin next door, so between 8123 and 8113. It didn't bother me at all in 8111, but something to think about for the cabins directly adjacent.
  21. Mine was 6 or 7 days (UK based). I then phoned Captain's Club as the points awarded were incorrect. That too was promptly fixed within 48hrs. So even with an issue it was under 10 days.
  22. Just off the Edge as a solo two weeks ago and I had a great time. I too am an introvert, and very comfortable in my own company. I chose to dine in the same MDR most nights and was really looked after by the team there. Aqua class and Blu would be lovely I'm sure, but I still felt treated like a queen in the plain old Cosmopolitan MDR! But then service is attentive across the board on Celebrity imo. There was no solo table to my knowledge. Perhaps this is different on M and S class ships, versus Edge class (no set dining on E class, 4 MDRs etc)? Or maybe I just didn't know about it because I'd prefer to eat by myself anyway? Solo meet ups were listed daily in the planner but I didn't feel was necessary for me personally so I never went.
  23. I sail on the Edge in 6 days. Just checked the MDR menus on the app, which I'm hoping are up to date this close to sailing, and they do not contain either chocolate cake or cheesecake. I assume they would both be under classic desserts? Options listed for classics are: sorbet, low fat frozen yoghurt, ice cream, apple pie a la mode, and creme brulee. Under signature desserts, there's a chocolate lava cake on day 3 and a New York cheesecake on day 7.
