  1. Marcia, you're right! I did confuse you with @TiogaCruiser. Hope she's haveing a good cruise, and I hope you are able to get some sleep lately. No wonder you were up early yesterday! How long do you have to keep your head down?
  2. Looks like a good tourist-friendly port which they should try to capitalize on. You lucked out with that substitute.
  3. Congratulations a little early on your official retirement in 4 weeks! Yippee! Edited to add: Would you happen to have some photos from Gladstone to share? We'd love to see some of it. Our end of April was very rainy here and DH tells me he dumped 2.5 inches of rain out of the rain gauge last night. Today is a sunny first of May so let's hope the nasty weather is over! A friend just sent me this and I wanted to share with all here.
  4. Rabbit, rabbit, white rabbit! 🐇 Good morning friends! I hope I have good luck all month long now. The weather report here is 49F with sunny skies later and a high of 66. A beautiful spring day and May Day for good measure. Thank you Rich @richwmn for the Daily and Fleet Report material for May 1. I am thinking of dear Jacqui @kazu on this date and sending kind thoughts and my support to her on this anniversary of Jose's passing. 💗 Also I should mention Rich's day in history is a big one for and England and Scotland as they joined to form the United Kingdom of Great Britain. The official days of celebration for us are Hawaiian Lei Day, Loyalty Day and Mother Goose Day. All good and positive days to honor. Especially Loyalty Day which can mean loyalty to certain people or things but was set up to reaffirm our loyalty to the United States, as Americans. Moving on to the quote, another funny one from Ellen Degeneres. Our meal suggestion should be popular - Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan. Yum! The drink is Bourbon Milk Punch and the wine one I've never heard of.but seems like a New Zealand one. Thank you Debbie @dfish, Dixie @summer slope and Ann @cat shepard for giving us an idea of what these beverages and food are like. Thanks also to Eva @superoma for keeping the lists for us while Vanessa @JazzyV is away. Prayers for all our friends and family on the list and any others we may have missed.🙏 Also a shoutout to those celebrating and those cruising. It was good to hear from @St Pete Cruiser yesterday who has much to be grateful for. 🥂 A toast to everyone! I hope Vanessa's bruised and painful knees are better today and her ship has sailed into calmer seas! I'm sorry I couldn't give full attention to the Daily (or Cruise Critic for that matter) because of working on my photo book yesterday. I made a little progress and hope that continues but that means I can't read every thread on CC anymore. That and my neighbors setting off on their adventure kept me distracted from news here. I have to tell you those two are very outgoing and love to talk and meet people. I shouldn't have been surprised when they pulled away from the curb (I stood on the porch waving to them) Paul flipped on his exterior speakers on the motorcoach and began playing an instrumental version of "On the Road Again". Another neighbor was outside digging in her flowerbed and jumped up to take a video of them driving slowly to the corner and making a left turn. We laughed and laughed. I could hear them for several minutes as they made their way out of Sun City. What a pair and what a departure!👋 Finally let's get to our port of the day, Gladstone, Queensland Australia. Well, what do you know? We have a first time appearance of this port. Plus I have never been there before so my work here is nearly done! No link to a date and no photos to share. It will be nice to hear from someone else on their visit there, when it was, on a ship or not, and especially some photos. Thank you in advance! This morning when DH gets up we are going for a walk as the sun rises and skip the treadmill today. The fresh air will do us good. Maybe we will see some wildlife! So I have another hour to lie down and wait for that! I hope all here have a safe and happy day!
  5. Today is Hawaiian Lei Day, Loyalty Day, and Mother Goose Day My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was sixty. 6. I wish I'd known you were anchoring in Dun Laoghaire instead of in Dublin itself. I could have brought this up ahead of time, but alas! In 2015 the Royal Princess anchored there and tendered us to shore. Then we walked from the tender dock to the train station in Dun Laoghaire, bought tickets to Dublin Pearse Station and it took 15 to 20 minutes to arrive downtown. Very inexpensive and they go often, like every 15 minutes. We had been told driving to Dublin would take at least an hour due to traffic. Reversed the train ride on the return home and enjoyed a great day visiting the sights. I don't remember if there were taxis at the tender dock for those who can't walk to the train station. Hopefully others will read this and look into it if they anchor in Dun Laoghaire.
  7. That is quite a riveting story about your fight against a spider bite! It gives you chills to think if it weren't for the medical center and doctors on the Noordam you would not have made it to the hospital. I hope there are no lasting effects from the toxins and you are home soon. Thanks for telling us about it! When you get home we hope to see you here on the Daily.
  8. Shutterfly. I hope they've corrected some of their so-called updated processes. But one thing they didn't bring back yet is already causing me grief. The photos are lined up in a strip at the bottom of the page and you can scroll through them but when you hold your cursor over one it should pop up in a larger box so you can look at it plainly. It doesn't and the little thumbnail photos in the strip are too tiny to view well. So I'm going through my photos where I have them stored (an "album" with every photo taken on that trip) and the ones I like best I'm marking them with a red heart. Then I can figure out which ones I want in the book. What are they thinking? I'd offer my advice to them but I doubt anything would be done. Sort of like HAL's website! My neighbor is home from church and the rain has stopped. He drove the SUV onto the trailer and is figuring out how to chain it properly now. I ran out and took some photos to show you. The trailer behind the motorcoach is actually 25' long with the hitch so a total of 68' long. I wish them well and hope they get home safely in October. Getting out the chains
  9. Vanessa at least you're not in port with that type of weather. Fingers crossed the port days are sunny and warm. How's the knee pain? Going back to my photos for the photo book now!
  10. I can't like that post! A limo that's not showing up and a cat seeking revenge on your suitcase! I hope your cruise is better than the last 24 hours!😾
  11. Beautiful summer time photos of Eidfjord. I think we need a summer home in Norway! I've decided I can't spend so many hours trying to keep up with my reading of the HAL threads. I've got to be disciplined and try to allot a certain number of hours a day working on creating photo books for my last few cruises. In the past it would be unheard of for a book not to be completed within one month of returning from said cruise. It's a good thing I keep a diary/journal while on the ship so I can get the details right. Starting on that today!
  12. We posted at nearly the same time. LOL at the meme! This is certainly not a good morning to start an across the country and Canada trip (in a huge motorhome with a trailer and SUV behind it). Neighbors Paul and Brenda are going to church first so I hope the weather improves before they go.
  13. Thanks for sharing your photos of Eidfjord taken on your cruise. Lots of snow still to melt there. The snowmobile photo reminds me of the good, old days when we lived in Michigan.🏔️ Thanks also for your very nice photos of Eidfjord Rich! There's a lot less snow there by the water. Vanessa, I'm really sorry to hear about your mishap with the step up. I hope it doesn't affect your upcoming days on the cruise and following vacation. Prayers for fast healing and your bruises and pain going away quickly.🙏 You're welcome Melanie! Thank you for your congratulation to Ren. They work (and play) so, so hard! And yes, you definitely need to see Norway. It's an incredibly beautiful country. Thanks so much Graham. I hope you and Pauline are having a great day. 😊 I almost forgot to say good morning back, and hope you're having a super cruise! Your memes really brought a smile to my face. So funny! I'm sorry that you are missing that cruise but I'm sure you made the right decision. More prayers for faster healing. You too, Roy! I wish no one ever had to cancel a cruise due to health but you know your health best. Hoping it isn't raining hard during your journey to church. Best wishes to your Cub Scout receiving his award today. Good luck getting your clothes together for your cruise. I'm up doing laundry (sheets) today too, though I'd rather lounge around in bed all day. This is my day off from exercise. And with the heavy rain and dimness we're having we really don't feel very energetic. What sport is your DGS in? I totally understand a 2 year old not being appreciative of attending his games. Have a good day! Don't worry. We all have our oops moments, especially me!🤦‍♀️
  14. Good morning friends! It started raining last night around 8 pm and we have had light rain ever since. It's 59F right now and we will reach 70 today with more rain all morning. Hopefully that's the end of it for a while. Meanwhile, let me thank Rich @richwmn for our Daily and Fleet Report contents for today. Also, I enjoyed the day in history item from 1952. Who knew Mr. Potato Head was the first toy advertised on TV? Pretty much everybody had to have one after that I bet. I know we had one. Our days today are Hairstyle Appreciation Day, International Jazz Day and National Honesty Day. The right hairstyle can make or break you IMO. We should also appreciate our hairstylists who stand on their feet all day making everyone over. A salute to jazz, though it's not my favorite type of music it's still great. We should all appreciate honesty! Nobody likes a liar. I noticed another important day to celebrate today so let me throw in National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day! So many here will love hearing how important it is to rescue a shelter pet, dog or cat both.🐶🐈 So all those days should keep you busy today. Let's move on to the quote. I like it so looked up the author. He was a popular humorist, actor and comedian who died in 1945. For most of us that was before our time. Today's menu suggestion is tofu stir-fry so I can nix that right now. You're welcome to my share. The drink is Pink Pineapple Tini and the wine is Clos du Bois Chardonnay. I'll have to pass on both. Thank you to Debbie @dfish, Dixie @summer slope, and Ann @cat shepard for preparing their F&B reports for today. Don't forget your prayers today for the extensive Care list that Eva @superoma will post for us. It has ballooned to huge proportions, but I know we can support these friends with prayer and good wishes for improvement in their health. 🙏 Healing thoughts to all! For those on the Celebration list, three cheers for all of you! Anyone cruising or preparing to cruise, we wish you smooth seas.🚢 Hope we hear from you and if not, we will miss you. We expect a report on your cruise when you return. My good news for today is Ren's Jaguars won a nail biter Saturday against a tough team 6 to 5. First the Jags were ahead, then they were down, then they squeaked out a few more goals and won the game! Ren got one goal and 2 assists, his buddy Colton got 2 goals. Another former Tiger Luke also scored one. The Jags were lucky to get those Tigers this year!⚽ Now I can relax until next Sunday's game. The port of the day for April 30, 2023 is Eidfjord, Norway which is a port quite a few of us have been lucky enough to stop at in the past. It was our port of the day on January 9, 2022 so I'll post a link for you to go back and get those photos easily. We enjoyed a visit to Eidfjord, Norway on July 4, 2016 on our Best Norway Cruise Ever. It was the final port and we were so sad to see it end. My report from back then: On the fourth of July 2016, the Prinsendam eased its way down the fjord at Eidfjord and approached the pier. What beautiful scenery there is in Norway! Everyone needs to experience it once at least. DH grabbed the HAL umbrella from the closet and off we went. The umbrella from our Prinsendam closet always held off threatening rain, and it worked again this day. This huge hotel is across from the ship but I can't remember the name of it. Well it appears from this photo it is a Quality hotel. Looked very nice by the way. From there we walked to the nearby tourist information center which was quite tiny of course. I liked this display of photos taken of ships which visited Eidfjord in the past. Seemed like they appreciated cruise ships. The town was surrounded by mountains which always seem to have a swirl of clouds at the peak. We did not take a ride on the little train. I'm seated next to the Eio River which runs between a lake called Eidfjordvatnet and the fjord at Eidfjord. We kept walking because there were things on our map we hadn't even come close to seeing yet. We continued our walk to the Eidfjord Kirke, a stone church which dates back to 1309. Not a typo! This is one of the inner doors, and then they had glass across the entrance to keep us from going inside and disturbing these very old furnishings. Taken through the glass. It's in remarkably good shape. Next to the church was Trebua Woodshop with a sample of the local art out front. I heard there was an exhibit of fiddles inside. The art shows the Eidfjord Kirke in it. Leaving and looking back, you can see the steeple from the Kirke, and the tourist train which stopped there. A darling house we saw. And a more rustic building. This seemed to be a government building which had the library inside. Early on I learned Bibliotek means library. I often stop at them to search for Wi-Fi. And we found it there! We decided we'd had enough walking this day and headed back to the ship. We really enjoyed our day spent in the little town of Eidfjord. After lunch and before the afternoon cheese party on deck we got a photo of Captain D.D. on his verandah with the outside bridge wing on the right side of the photo and the Norway flag he always put out in port. When he wasn't on board the ship he rolled the flag up and slid it behind the sofa in his living room. No one ever bothered it there he said. I hope he retrieved it before the ship went over to Phoenix Reisen! Everyone wanted a taste of the goat cheese Captain D.D. had stopped to purchase at Undredal the day before. his and her plates We had a beautiful scenic cruise down the fjords that afternoon and we took many photos of the waterfalls and homes, mountains, and wildlife. But at dinner that night I ran outside at a particularly nice waterfall and saw many of our crew out there enjoying it too. Recognize anyone? View from inside the dining room. Every day was special on this Best Norway Cruise Ever! I hope you all have an enjoyable Sunday! It's still raining here!

  16. Well that's good news. I'm sure all of you will be more comfortable. And I have stayed in many interior cabins and unless he is claustrophobic, it should be fine. I kind of like the darkness at night. Hopefully he can be placed near you, and I bet you will want to be outside looking at scenery and going on tours most of the time. It will be much better having two bathrooms instead of one for obvious reasons, not to mention at shower time. It's getting close now!
  17. I noticed when I put my credit card number on my booking the other day the hold was noted as $1500. It's a 25 day cruise so yes, $60/day but not per person, per cabin. Now I can't see that hold amount on my account information so can't tell you 100%.
  18. The banana cake must have looked so good you couldn't help yourself. Interesting how the (huge) shrimp are laying on ice cubes. I noticed it last time too. Talk about cold shrimp! Beautiful sunset!
  19. I heard what sounded like a tank driving up my street so went to peek out the window. It was my neighbor's Wanderlodge motorhome and they are leaving tomorrow for their 6 month drive across the country. During their trek they will stop in Vancouver, BC to take an Alaskan cruise on Volendam. Wednesday, July 19. Their 23 year old daughter will go along for most of the trip except for a while. She wants to get into acting and will be filming in June for 2 or 3 weeks back here in Georgia so will come and go at that time. I believe she knows the film maker. Anyway, they are loading the motorhome today and I snapped a pic from my front steps. They will attach a trailer to the back of the motorhome and haul the SUV that's shown in the driveway with them. That is my old Acura MDX SUV that I drove for 18 years and they've had it two years now. Still looking good! (miss it 😢). I'm sure they'll have many tales to tell after this trip! I told them I want a photo of the whole shebang before they leave. Can you imagine passing someone and trying to get back in the right hand lane? Thanks Graham! That was certainly a beautiful day! I'm so glad we went on that cruise. Remember after leaving Istanbul and sailing north in the Bosporus Strait, we'd just moved into the Black Sea when a boat approached to medevac a sick patient? I believe it was dinner time when that happened. Very sad they had to miss the rest of the wonderful cruise. Thanks Annie for your comments about the pictures and the story about your AZ patron. Istanbul was really something! Great job, Eva! Thanks again. Hi Joy! Thanks for the compliment and I hope you get to Istanbul too. You and Allen have a wonderful day! Nice to see you posting today @Nickelpenny. Thank you for your comments about the photos! Wow! Willie Nelson is 90? I wouldn't have thought so, but that's amazing. Thanks! Perhaps your invitation to the coronation was lost in the mail. Their loss - no new kitchen clock. 🤣 That's a beautiful photo! A keeper. Glad the rolling seas don't seem to make you seasick. I've felt like I was going to roll out of bed on a ship a time or two. Hope you're having a super time. Lenda, thank you for your photos of Istanbul today. Great place to visit.
  20. The second day in Istanbul we decided to take a tram ride to cut down on some miles of walking. We got off at the Grand Bazaar which is known worldwide. We decided to buy Ren and his brother a Galatasaray soccer jersey. Of course you know Ren has continued on with soccer and the other let it go. But it's good to see them continuing on with what interests them. Here is the salesperson who waited on us and he was happy to pose for a photo. Inside the Bazaar, which is huge. You could get lost in there. Someone who went to fetch some Turkish coffee for his friends. We walked from the Bazaar to the Blue Mosque named after the many blue tiles that decorate the interior. It was built in the early 1600's. We waited in a long line to enter the mosque. Here are the rules. An entrance to the courtyard If you're going to pray you stop here first. Inside we took off our shoes and the ladies wore head coverings. That is what everyone was looking up at. I'm not sure why this room was empty, but I think those darker lines in the carpet are to help people position themselves for prayer. Looking up one of the columns. The metal supports were added to add the lighting, IMO. Tiles everywhere Leaving the Blue Mosque, we put on our shoes and headed to the Hippodrome where we viewed the Walled Obelisk and the Obelisk of Theodosius. In addition there is a gazebo-style German fountain that adorns the square. Incredible tile work inside the gazebo. By then we decided to head back to the ship to rest. So here's a last look at the Blue Mosque. Freshly squeezed pomegranate juice. Later that day it was time to leave Istanbul. It wasn't the prettiest of days, but we still spent time on deck watching us sail away. Next stop - Batumi, Georgia! Thanks for your patience. Time to get on the treadmill and I hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday.
  21. Hagia Sophia museum is up next. The exterior. Here's a roadmap for you. some of the interior walkways I've noticed this is one of my older cameras taking photos in 2014 so not of the quality I would like. Camera have really improved a lot over the last decade or two. We saw a lot of people taking photos upwards during our Istanbul stop. You can see why. Marble jar, used on special days to distribute water, according to the inscription below it. This is called the Beautiful Door. See, I did NOT make that up. The two of us, 7 years younger.🙁 By this time we were exhausted, and so were our traveling buddies so we walked back to the ship. We walked many miles that day. Along the way we saw street food called Kestane being sold. It appears that is roasted chestnuts. A place to wash your feet before entering the mosques. Another shop full of spices and confections. Back on the Prinsendam, we had a dancer on the pool deck (belly dancing I believe). She moved so fast the photos turned out blurry! We also had local cuisine cooked and set up on deck. Those were the days, eh? My gosh, we still have the following day to see. This could take all day to finish! Sorry if there are too many photos but Istanbul is an important stop on the Black Sea cruise.
  22. Good morning friends! Today it is 55F and clear. This morning it is clear and will be sunny and 79 with clouds rolling in this afternoon and rain tonight. Thanks Rich @richwmn for the Daily and Fleet Report information for all of us. Our days are Independent Bookstore Day, International Astronomy Day, and International Dance Day. Hurray for indpendents who open bookstores. You know they have a real love for books because with Amazon out there it's a hard way to make a living.📚 I salute astronomers for their interest in our galaxies, a place they can only see through telescopes and will probably never visit.🔭 LOL! And for those who love to dance around the world, this is your day to let loose.💃 I bet Henry Kissinger would be going crazy with all the crises we have these days! And thanks to Rich for his day in history regarding the wrecking of the Berlin Wall in 1990. What an event that was! Our meal today is Paella Verdura and I'm sure Debbie @dfish will give us great recipes and photos. That Pinn Tini sounds unique, and another Pinot Noir to taste.🍷 Thanks go to Debbie, Dixie @summer slope and Ann @cat shepard for their work on the food and beverages. In advance I'd like to thank Eva @superoma for keeping up with the Care and Celebration lists. Wow, it's been busy this week! For all on the Care list we pray for your improved health. I'm really hoping Jacqui has a much better day today. For all recovering from your surgeries we wish everyone less pain hour by hour and results seen quickly.🙏 Three cheers for the Celebration list! I hope the cruises are going well and feel your sadness if you're leaving the ship today. For those embarking what a wonderful day you will have. Enjoy! I hear DGS has a soccer game locally today but DS will not be able to attend due to graduation ceremonies at the University. I failed to ask if he had students graduating, receiving master's or Ph.D.'s (I'm sure he does) but he must be on stage regardless. It's always an honor to hood a Ph.D. student. I remember the feeling as a parent when he received his. A great day for all of them!🎉🥂 Today's port is Istanbul, Turkey (or Turkiye). We have had it here twice before on November 21, 2021 and Dec. 12, 2022. I'll post the links below and a multitude of pictures. We were honored to take a Black Sea followed by a Holy Land cruise on the Prinsendam in 2014. It was our first cruise on HAL and what an introduction it was! We stayed two days in Istanbul so we got to do a lot of exploring around the city. Here goes Istanbul. We arrived in Istanbul in late afternoon on Oct. 9, 2014. We had time to get off the ship and walk to a nearby hotel to borrow some wi-fi before dinner. Thank you Nidya Hotel. The next day we walked across the Galata Bridge to see the Topkapi Palace Museum. See how close the boats are to the bridge? In the background you can see Hagia Sophia's minarets. We passed many shops selling spices and Turkish delights. The Imperial Gate entrance to Topkapi Palace Museum. We bought a Museum Pass and headed toward the Istanbul Archaeological Museum. We checked out artifacts on the lawn and entered the Tiled Kiosk to see the pottery and tile displays. No cameras were allowed in the Archaeological Museum. Then we headed through the Gate of Salutations into the Topkapi Palace Museums which housed everything from jewelry to weapons. One of the museums had a terrace with a fabulous view of the water. We walked through the Palace Kitchens and the Imperial Treasury. So much to see! Finally we went to the Harem section of the Palace Museums. At one time it was occupied by the Sultan, his mother, wives and concubines. Room for a crowd! Always a nice ceiling to look at. From here we went to Hagia Sophia Museum, and then we have the second day in Istanbul to see so I will make a second post as this one will be too long. May take up the whole first page! 😉 Get out there and have a great weekend folks. Any you may need another cup of coffee by the time I'm finished.

  24. Your dinner looks delicious and fresh. I'm sure you enjoyed that meal and I hope the good food continues. Thanks for the photos! You've moved up to 15 minute walks so keep up the great work! Every little bit helps. I hope the tornado watches are over. Take care! Midland is so lucky to have the Center for the Arts. For a small town like that to have that venue is amazing, and I'm sure a lot of the money to start up and to support it comes from being the headquarters of such a large corporation. Annie, hugs from us after such a difficult day!. {{hugs}} I wasn't the one who was bitten - it was @St Pete Cruiser . He said he was bitten while hiking and simply reported it on the Daily last night. Someone must have confused me with him when he blue bubbled my name in his post. I hope he is doing much better and is home soon! Exactly!!
