  2. DDIL sent me a second photo about 20 minutes ago showing the ice all melted today on the trees, deck, lawn, etc. And the white birch tree is standing up proudly with no damage now. Thank goodness! She said she saw several birches and other trees with broken limbs just down the street. It's supposedly windy there now so hopefully the wet streets are drying right now because the temp will be down to 30F by 11pm and could refreeze causing black ice. DS's plane lands around 11:30 pm and then he has the 30 minute drive home. I'll be glad when he's home safely.
  3. I think EB stands for east bound since they mentioned a transatlantic. Not a question directed to me but that's what I understood @BarbinMich meaning.
  4. Annie, that is sad to hear, but I guess understandable. Bless you both for taking such good care of your Neko.
  5. You will just see different flowers than the spring ones. We will want photos you know so take a bunch of them. 🌻 The nurse finally called back and said it's all set, but it takes 2 to 3 days for results to get back so don't wait too long. They must send the labs out of the office. Some of you say you hear back same day on your portal. Gorgeous! What a gift!🎁 Yay! That's good news. Now THAT's what I thought DDIL would photograph, not ice. Hope you don't have to shovel all that.
  6. Well, Dailyites, I followed through this morning and went to the gym between 10 and 11 am. It was fairly busy so I had to wait a few times for a particular machine. I did 4 different leg machines, 1 for the abs and 1 for the lower back. I didn't do any arm or shoulder machines because my shoulder is a bit touchy now but if I get into the habit of going to my gym again I will definitely start carefully doing those too. We used to go to the gym for treadmill and 14 weight machines at 6 am 6 days a week except while traveling beginning in 2012. It's located a short distance away in our neighborhood and paid for in our monthly community dues. Then Covid hit in 2020 and they closed it for a year which really messed up our fitness regime. We bought our own treadmill and used that, then when the gym opened again started walking to the gym 3 days a week, getting our miles in as well as the weight machines. But a year ago DH bought a Total Gym machine to do weight resistance exercises so we stopped going to the gym. And unfortunately I find it a bit cumbersome to manipulate the Total Gym so I stopped doing weight machines totally. Since then I've started having these problems with first my right knee then the left one now. So I hope that I can strengthen my legs and perhaps help with my knee issues. I don't want knee replacement in my future, like my 3 siblings have had to do. I'll let you know how sore I am tomorrow, but honestly I didn't put as much weight on as I used to do, trying to take it easy. Sorry for the long story! I hope you get to see the botanical garden too. Is your cruise in the fall months? We were there October, November which is their spring so lots of pretty flowers to see. I have a call in to the nurse at my doctor's office since yesterday, and again this morning and they still haven't called me back. They never answer the phone either, just have you leave a message. Since a "conglomerate" purchased the practice the service stinks there! They must have let a few employees go because nothing seems to get done right away anymore. I just want to get an order for lab tests before my physical instead of afterwards like they seem to always do. This way she can discuss them with me personally. I hope you get that power back on real soon. In Cincinnati they have Skyline Chili fast food restaurants all over the place. They serve it on spaghetti or hot dogs. On spaghetti they call it 3-way if you add shredded cheddar cheese on it. With chopped onions added to the 3-way, you now have 4-way. I've heard they have 5-way too if you add beans to it. Cincinnati chili doesn't have beans in it. Honestly we like our own regular chili recipe on spaghetti or hot dogs, too. Cincinnati chili has a totally different type of seasoning than your usual chili recipes. I hope Craig doesn't get heartburn, Sharon!!🥵 Happy birthday Linda @lindaler!🎂 I was expecting to see some pretty photos of a foot of snow this morning. What a surprise to see just the ice! It does look pretty when it snows but I still hate the stuff. Haha! I hope your DGD and family stay safe out there. Sorry about the rescheduling but it's for the best. That's really sad about your grandson. I hope he can begin to adjust better and remember his happy times with the late family members. Hope those branches don't break, as well. At least they're not bent over as bad as the white birch in Michigan photo.
  7. I can't believe how off my weather app was on precipitation in Ann Arbor! It said 12 inches in the previous 24 hours. My DDIL sent me a photo out the back slider door to their deck and yard. She says NO snow, only lots of ice on the trees, lawn, deck and furnishing, cars. No mention of the roads though. She says it will warm up there today so let's hope it all melts. Her street has power but within a half mile there are plenty of power outages. Here is the photo. I'm a little worried about that white birch in the middle of the photo. It's really beautiful in the summer and it would be very sad if limbs start breaking off. You got quite a bit of snow there in Midland, Debbie @dfish. I hope it melts fast!
  8. @RedneckBobmy initial response was NO, I don't sleep ever! But I actually do sleep, just not enough. Sorry to hear you don't sleep at all. 😴 Vanessa, so sorry to hear the sad news that BFF's dear uncle passed yesterday. My condolences to you, your BFF and his entire family and friends. He lived a very long life and that is a comfort to the family. You can take me off the Celebration list now for my numbness easing. I'm very glad for that and wish it hadn't taken a full year to accomplish! Great job keeping the lists updated so thanks from all of us. Melanie, I agree the flowers there were gorgeous. I think just seeing them might help the Garden Club get through the next couple of weeks (months?) of winter. I highly recommend a walk through the botanical garden in Hobart for anyone heading that way.
  9. Thanks for the information on Noordam, Rich. As I just mentioned in my second post, at 5 am eastern time marinetraffic.com showed it moored and not moving in Tauranga, but 15 minutes later it had begun to depart for Auckland. As you said the time there is evening so I hope all onboard had a wonderful time in Tauranga and a smooth sail to Auckland tonight.
  10. Good morning friends! It's a warm 66 this morning and will reach 78 this afternoon. We are expecting clouds all day with a slight chance of rain later on. Thanks to Rich for creating the content of today's Daily. I know it can't have been easy. I was notified last night by @erewhonthat Noordam was moored in Tauranga so I looked at both cruisemapper.com and marinetraffic.com this morning to see what they said. When I copied the maps Noordam was moored in Tauranga and just a few minutes ago I see they are just beginning to leave there and I suppose headed to Auckland. It is evening there. It is International Dog Biscuit Day and I'm sure most dogs do appreciate them. Perhaps the owners as well. Tennis day is a good day to celebrate because I know many are avid tennis players. Not me. Digital learning sounds interesting. We can always learn something new there. Not sure the lentils would be my first choice for dinner today but I bet Debbie @dfishcan make them look and sound interesting. No thanks to the wine or drink today. Chardonnay isn't my favorite white wine. And I love the quote from the witty Erma Bombeck. Prayers for all on the Care list. Many Dailyites could use our prayers, especially Roy, Jacqui, and Tana. Hoping CC member Kathi @Scrapnanais doing well with her cancer treatments. Cheers for all on the Celebration list. Happy days for all involved! Enjoy those cruises everyone. For me, I got a little more sleep last night, but am very tired this morning so I wonder if another nap is in my forecast. Instead I should head to the gym and start working on strengthening my legs. I am having problems with both knees now and it's gotten so I can't get up from a crouching position alone. I've never had that happen before. I have an appointment with my doctor March 6. I hope those in the path of the winter storm are doing okay. My weather app says Ann Arbor got 12 inches since yesterday. I hope Midland didn't get that much! Hobart, Tasmania, Australia is a wonderful port of call. Rich posted this port one time a little over a year ago so it's time to revisit it. Here is the link to his post on January 11, 2022. We enjoyed visiting Hobart twice in 2013 on Diamond Princess and twice in 2017 on Sun Princess. I'll show a couple different things we did in Hobart. One time a fellow CC friend rented a car and invited us along to visit the Tahune Airwalk, where you get an aerial view of the forest. They have metal walkways high in the tree canopy and Tasmania has some of the tallest trees in the world. When on the ground you sometimes faced obstacles but they had found a way to let us pass. After the forest walk we ate lunch at a small restaurant, and drove back to Hobart. The second time in Hobart on this Diamond Princess cruise in 2013, we got off the ship and walked through the town. It's quite nice and easily walkable. In 2017 on Sun Princess we visited two times. The first time we made a beeline for the Hobart Botanical Park. The second time we walked the town again. You can always find new things to see if you just turn in the opposite direction! Across from the harbor is City Hall, a beautiful building IMO. Along the path we took to the Garden, we passed Government House, home of the Governor of Tasmania. The Botanical Gardens abutted the Government House property which must have been nice to see the gardens while strolling the grounds. Here are the gates to the Botanical park. They handed you a map thank goodness. Love these! Goodness, there was so much to see. I'd love to go back, and highly recommend visiting here. This was in the sub-Antarctica plant house. There was a Japanese Garden too. Well, I have to stop now. I could be here all day doing this. Hope you enjoyed the photos of time spent in Hobart.

  12. I'm really sorry to hear about Neko's troubles Annie. I know it's one of the hardest things you've ever had to do. Hugs and prayers for you and Chuck. Good idea. Jacqui, great that you got home before the storm. I hope you can rest up after all that physio work and get some extra sleep tonight. You don't want to be a member of the 3 am club, that's for sure! I like the story about not packing our manners. That was a very wise woman and I hope her friend learned something. I hope your home doesn't have any outages during this storm. Thank goodness you have family who can help out if the worst happens. At Boca da Valeria I'm sure the children will be enchanted with your crayons. I hope you enjoy your time spent in that little village. They had young ladies dressed in elaborate costumes for photos in case you'd be interested in that. Enjoy! Sorry to hear you have to wait for your doctor to take his/her vacation to get your surgery. What a bummer! Wow, I really hope the ice isn't as bad as you think it will be down in A2. They've had some heavy snow today but tomorrow the temp is expected to be 48 for a high down there. Then Thursday night down to 16! Which means a refreeze possibly, so I hope DS is safe driving home. Somehow he drove in the ice in Dallas two weeks ago so I'll be praying for him again. Mothers never stop worrying.😟 Interesting. Well, she's an adorable best friend!🐕 Great pictures of Djupivogur! I can't wait to see it. Debbie @dfish and Sue will be on the same cruise as DH and I so you can bet we all can't wait to get to Iceland again. That cotton flower looks like the plant we saw in Ilulissat, Greenland when we walked out to the glacier on the long, long boardwalk. Glad you checked in today. Stay safe in that storm! Vanessa, what an ordeal getting the tests done! I'm so sorry to hear about it but hope the results are favorable for you.🙏 Thank you for joining us today on the Daily and Fleet Report! Thanks for your photos too Laura. Just walking around the small towns is exactly what we like to do also. Your upcoming cruise sounds fabulous and I hope you enjoy every minute of it. Debbie, I agree the photos of Djupivogur certainly whet our appetites for our upcoming cruise. Can't wait! I hate to hear about all the snow up your way and that you have to do all that shoveling. Please be careful, and stay safe. Nice to hear your DB and DS are safe now too.
  13. Thanks for your food photos Nancy. Sorry about the sketchy situations in port yesterday. I don't recall too much begging in the Amazon. Of course in Boca de Valeria, the small village where the children take you by the hand and escort you around could be considered a begging situation. However, they don't ask for money or hold out their hand for it. They were very calm, and since we don't speak their language and vice versa it was a quiet walk there. At the end they just stand near you and wait to see if you will give them a dollar or two. Then they hurry over to the welcome line and wait for their next chance to show someone around. Make sure you go into shore when you are there because it's one of the more interesting stops. Also Devil's Island, French Guiana on the S. American north coast is one of our favorite days on the cruise we took. We just enjoyed walking around on our own exploring there. Thanks for reporting in each day and keeping us updated. I wish HAL sailed from there too. I guess you could fly to Amsterdam or Rotterdam if you would like to try out HAL. Something to consider next time. I've cruised into and out of Southampton only on Princess ships. That is a very nice story about dear Pearl and your DSIL. I'm sure you were relieved that the weather wasn't a problem on those long drives. It's not easy keeping up with the Daily or CC when gone for a period of time. I'm still trying to catch up from our 8 days away! Good grief! An emergency patient is not a good enough excuse for the doctor's delay? Especially seeing the person right in front of them and still no empathy. I don't blame you for wanting to give up on humans. Oh, that's much better than the tiny avatar photo. She's a cutie? What breed is she? Sort of reminds me of a Basenji's face shape. A neighbor had one once. I remember because she was barkless which is so unusual. Gerry @ger_77hope the dentist appointment goes okay! Vanessa @JazzyVgood luck at your PET stress test today, and safe driving.
  14. Thank you. A deep, restful sleep sure sounds good. It's nice to have some new Dailyites onboard. 👋 Love the memes today, Bruce! Sorry about the congestion but hopefully you have a beautiful day today and enjoy your nice weather.🌞 Yup, always up early. Great memes from you too! I knew that French wine might be expensive but that's above most of our price points. I agree with @ocean sounds, can we get a pic of your Bindi?🐕 Thanks Vanessa for the great list keeping. We really have a lot of cruisers starting out on the 25th and on 4 different ships! Debbie @dfishthanks for the recipes and photos today. Except for the curry I'd like any of them. I hope the storm isn't as bad as predicted. My DS is in San Francisco at an engineering conference and coming home late Thursday night. Hopefully the Detroit airport and Ann Arbor don't get hit to hard with the ice and snow so he can get home okay. I remember you mentioned you had surgery coming up around the first week of March. What is the date?
  15. Good morning friends! It's a very warm 61 degrees this February morning. We expect sun and clouds mixed with a high of 79F. I bet we will see 80. ⛅ Nothing new to report. Another night with hours of wakefulness in the second half. Yesterday I went downstairs to our dark "napping" room at 2 and rested until 4. I do believe I spent half that time sleeping! 🙂 Today is Ash Wednesday, George Washington's Birthday and Be Humble Day. Happy beginning of Lent for all who celebrate this season. Happy birthday to dear George, the Father of our Country, and I shall try to always remain humble. Not eating meat today, we could try today's menu suggestion for our meal, I would think. It doesn't sound like it has any meat products in it. Debbie @dfishwill let us know with her recipe selections today. The drink name sounds happy - is it a party punch?🍹 What do you say Dixie @summer slope? And the wine today sounds expensive, and red. Will I be surprised when Ann @cat shepardshows us the facts?🍷 Today is a good day to pray for our members and family who are on the Care list, as well as those hurting in the trouble spots.🙏 Ukraine, Turkey and Sicily (another earthquake!), and New Zealand. I hope things improve there soon. Congratulations to our soon to be cruisers, those already cruising, and all the happy events presented by our Dailyite Vanessa @JazzyV. 🥂🎉 Today's port destination is Djupivogur, Iceland which is one I've never been to before but I think it's scheduled on my summer 2023 HAL cruise. A good reason to go back to Iceland! Hope to see some photos today. We have had this port twice before on July 13, 2021 and December 11, 2022 so here are the links for you to retrieve any photos posted back then. Though many are away from home right now we hope to hear from the rest of you. Come join us if you have been lurking and afraid to post before. Meanwhile, have a wonderful day everyone!

  17. 🙁 Well said, Maxine. Good wishes from all of us concerned about your health, Roy!
  18. Nancy, we stood on the cat walk structure in the back of the room and it was very loud even back there. One poor man in the last row put his head down and covered his ears so it must have been hurting his ears. If you have sensitive ears take some of those soft foam earplugs. Don't worry you will still hear everything quite loud enough. I always have those in my purse for overnight plane trips. You will be surprised at how small that room is by the way. Sorry to hear about the IPhone taken from someone. I'm sure that happens constantly there. Enjoy your nap and cool off. The heat is so draining, isn't it? Best of luck with the weather for your trip to the port and I hope the airlines cooperate, too. An exciting cruise for you all! We will watch for you and your family. With that many waving the camera should zoom in. You did let them know at PTZ, right? Sorry we won't get to hear from you though for a while. Have a wonderful cruise!
  19. I guess I am used to little sleep. If I by chance I sleep 5 hours I am amazed and surprised. That's why DH's long sleep times can be a little annoying but I wouldn't wish this on him. I say good for him!😴 We certainly didn't wear jewelry either our first time there. We were warned in advance. Before getting on the ship we walked from our hotel to a nearby beach just to look at it. There were four of us and still we were nervous when we saw locals walking towards us on the sidewalk. The next day we heard a story about a passenger who was attacked and robbed taking photos at the beach at sunrise. Everything on him including his cameras. He was by himself. 🤕 Sorry about the sand fleas attacking you. I haven't had that happen to me before but we don't often do beach days. One time in Sanibel my DD was bitten like crazy by the no-see-ums. No one else was so I guess they go for certain people.🤷‍♀️
  20. That sounds like a very good report from the doctor. Hopefully all the swelling in your feet goes down eventually. The no evidence of infection is especially important. Hi back to Allen! Hope you both have a great Tuesday. Sorry to hear about the impatient lady on the elevator. Maybe she should take the stairs? 😉
  21. Thank you for your photos today. Now I can understand your feelings about a trashy city. Though I enjoyed seeing Christ the Redeemer statue, Copacabana beach and Sugarloaf mountain, I definitely don't enjoy the experience of being in Rio. Scary! Sorry to anyone who enjoys Rio but that is my opinion. When the Volendam goes to Parintins do you have plans to see the Boi Bumba show? It's worthwhile. What a shame! Thanks for posting about your time there. Thank you. I searched Eurodam on cruisemapper.com and it showed her positioned in the Bahamas with a last update of Feb. 19. But she doesn't show on the map of the Caribbean for some reason with the rest of the Caribbean ships. Funny memes!🤣
  22. I have some photos from St. John taken years ago. We first went there in 2006 with our DD when we took her along with us on a Thanksgiving week Eastern Caribbean cruise. We went snorkeling at Trunk Bay in St. John, a popular spot. I'll spare you photos of us in our swimsuits. None of us are in this photo.😁 This is the type of boat our snorkeling tour took to return to St. Thomas. In August 2010 DD planned a cruise to show her kids how enjoyable a cruise vacation could be. BTW, all of them are hooked now! I asked her if I could come along to help out with the kids and she happily agreed because they had planned to put one adult in one cabin and the other adult in a second one next door splitting up the four kids among them. So I took the cabin with the three eldest kids and the almost 2 year old stayed next door with his parents. In St. Thomas we took a tour to St. John and here is the view from the first scenic view stop. Second scenic stop was a view of Caneel Bay Here is Trunk Bay No snorkeling this day. We saw where some of the more wealthy residents lived. It's a beautiful island, and most of the land is protected and will not be built on. Along our tour we saw some cute things, like this little gift shop. Love the colors! And these donkeys roaming free. Then we stopped for shopping at Mongoose Junction right at Cruz Bay. Everyone had a good time enjoying that beautiful island!
  23. Roy, sorry to hear you didn't sleep quite as well last night. I hope the podiatrist appointment goes well. Maybe you can lie down and rest afterwards. I had my usual sleep last night. Went to bed fairly early, 9:45. Slept 3 to 4 hours and awakened. After that I wait to fall back asleep but I don't. I might get a brief period of sleep every once in a while, but essentially I'm awake until I get out of bed to exercise (or nowadays post the Daily and then exercise). So I think I will force myself to take a nap today. I haven't talked to my doctors about it because they would probably prescribe sleep medication and I'm not a fan of that. So somehow I just get by. Meanwhile, DH mentions occasionally that he slept 9 hours last night instead of 8 hours, straight through! Arrgghh!
  24. Good morning friends! It's a warm 62F this morning with some gusty winds, expecting mostly cloudy skies with a chance of rain at noon and a high of 71 today. We should have a high temp of over 70 degrees for the next week (unless the weather person is wrong). What?? Today is Fat Tuesday/Mardi Gras as Rich indicated. Everyone is preparing for lent by having a big blast ahead of time. It is also card reading day and international mother language day. I can accept and celebrate both of those as well. True quote. I'm not sure how many recipes Debbie @dfishwill have for us today but I bet there are plenty of ways to prepare flank steak. No to the drink and red wine. Our port today has been shown here several times by those of us who have been to St. Thomas and decided to go a little further and visit that beatiful island. I've done that a few times myself, most notably with DD and her family in 2010 when I tagged along on the children's first cruise and I've probably posted photos of my visit to St. John. But I notice the Prinsendam actually had St. John on the itinerary on the 2018 Grand Med and Africa cruise that we went on. Made for a relaxing day just tendering a short distance to Cruz Bay and doing whatever your heart desired. This is the first time St. John has been listed as the "official" port of the day. Thanks to Rich @richwmn for the Daily content today. I hope the cruise is going well, but to be honest I haven't had time to read all the WC posts since I've been back home. I see you are in Perth/Fremantle though. Love Australian ports! Thanks go to Vaness @JazzyV for the lists she's keeping for us and will post before long. Prayers for all in need and there are many! 🙏 Happy days for those on the Celebration List. 🥂 So many cruises coming up this weekend. Everyone must be so busy getting ready to go. We will miss all of you here on the Daily so please check in if you can. I have a few minutes so will post a couple photos from St. John, U.S.V.I. These are from 2018 when Prinsendam stopped there on the way to Africa. Cruz Bay. That might be the Prinsendam anchored off shore. I believe that is the ferry to St. Thomas at the dock there. We saw the little Catholic church ahhh, the shopping district Time to head back to the Mother Ship, Prinsendam Maybe later after treadmill and breakfast I can look up a couple of cute photos from the tour we did on St. John when I was there with DD and DGKids. Have a great day everyone!
