  1. And of course, Herb is correct. :)

    Hi, Herb!

Only once did I deliberately book a cabin on Deck 11, to be near the CL.

On that cruise, there were so many eligible cruisers that they moved the nightly cocktail "hour" to Dazzles on Deck 8!

My mom will be 81. The location is PERFECT for her. She is right there!!! Easy for morning coffee, afternoon lunch and a drink before dinner.

  2. I went to Chops with my family - they eat meat - I don't. I TRIED to just order salad and side veggies but my waiter and the head waiter WOULD NOT HEAR OF IT. They INSISTED I order something from Portafino. I really wasn't that hungry but they wouldn't take no for an answer so I ordered a plate of pasta.

And yes, the person in charge of putting the V on the menu has NO clue what the V means.

I don't expect "a large vegan menu" (and I am not vegan), but a single item, such as pasta (which they ended up serving me), would be nice. Just something they have as an automatic answer for the question "do you have anything for a vegetarian?" Their answer to the question was "ummm" instead of "sure, how about some pasta." They managed it okay with no notice, and I applaud them for that.

But it would be nice if they could have one item listed on the menu, or at least have it as a ready answer, without having to have the manager and the chef come to the table. They were all very sweet, but it would be nice if it didn't seem like the first time they had been asked the question.

As for why I went, it's because the other three members of my party were not vegetarian, and they wanted to go. I can't imagine that's the first time something like that has happened, so why were they thrown by the request?

  3. This year I only gave the room guy an extra $20 - but we were an easy room and did not make any requests. In the past when we had kids in the room with us we would tip more than 20 extra. But now the kids stay in the room next door with Nanie - not sure what she tips - she might not tip over the pre charged tips.

Waiters I didn't tip anything extra. They should have given me back my pre paid tips. I am such a picky eater I only went to one or two meals and just had a house salad, no dressing. Mostly I was in the WJ eating oatmeal or at the pool eating ice cream.

Bartenders I would tip an extra buck or two if they delivered a drink to me. If I go to the bar, they just get the standard.

  4. Not sure what you have planned on St Kitts but we did a wonderful tour with Thenford Gray. Just google his name.

MasonPips, I so appreciate your review of your eight-night Indy cruise. We will be doing the same one on Dec 7, so everything you wrote will help. WE did sign up for MTD which will be our frst time with that as we have always done traditional dining. Now I am having second thoughts. I wonder if it is too late to change. Maybe having D+ status will help to make a change, but I doubt it.

I am surprised tickets are needed for the ice show because on Liberty, we just waltz right in. Glad to know it, thanks to you and will see the concierge first thing to line up tickets. The show you describe is the same one or very close to it that Indy has had since its inaugural saling.

I hope the shopping situation is straightened out by our cruise, but really don't hold out high hopes. The on board shopping hasn't been what it used to be in the last few years. In particular, I feel there has been a marked decrease in the quality and selection of the ten dollar items. I have an evening bag from eight years ago that is still attractive that I bought on Mariner at the ten dollar sale. The ones they have offered lately would never hold up that well. The "pashminas" come in far fewer colors and are much thinner material. They hardly do much good at all to keep oneself warm.

I'm a huge fan of Oasis and Allure, but we chose Indy for its itinerary. My son and DIL have not been to St Kitts or San Juan yet, so they were eager to visit those ports. Much as we treasure our sailings on O and A, the same itineraries do get tiresome. We really sail O & A for the awesome ships and their shows and dining options, dual Flow Riders, and so on.

Again, many thanks for your informative review.

  5. The weather was perfection!!!!!!!!! And the shopping AWFUL!!!!!!!! I asked about it and they said that ship uses a different company for on board stores. It was the first time is - what 13 years? - that I was unable to buy a Christmas Tree decoration on the cruise!

We did mtd NEVER AGAIN!!!!! It was AWFUL. We celebrated two birthdays on board. They forgot both. Some nights we would show up and they would tell us to TRY again in 2 hours.

We went to Olive or Twist most nights for drinks. The others rooms were packed and had no view. I love it up there.

I think we will be joining you on Oasis. We booked an open booking.

  6. I could live without the donuts - but the apple danish. I love them! I could buy or make them at home - but then I would weigh 500 pounds. I enjoy splurging while on a cruise. I sail Saturday on Indy - if donuts are not there, I will complain. I will be with my mom - she loves her plain donut with a cup of coffee in the morning. She will be sure to complain. I don't understand why they would cut donuts?

  7. Thank you for the list! I am a beer lover and can't wait to try a few on Oasis this Nov.

In 2009 I sailed on Independence of the Seas and was really disappointed in the beer selections on board. I wrote to Royal Caribbean and suggested they might want to carry more craft beers at the Pub. Well I just got back from an Oasis of the Seas cruise last week and was I pleased with the beer selections at the Globe and Atlas Pub. I will list them for reference. I found the prices within reason as well. Hope this helps those searching for details.
