  1. I just called Royal - they said they won't xfer at the pier, they will just refund the money. (Which I don't want since I got the drink package at a great price.) They did say if my TA called and moved my mom into my room and my DH into my mom's room - then they could xfer the package to my mom. I messaged my TA and asked her to try to make this happen. We all know that if you call royal 10 times you will get 10 different answers.

  2. IMHO they won't transfer the drink package. If your husband is a no show they have to refund it to him. Same thing happened to my hubby one year and he was a no show. They refunded his dining reservations, gratuities, port fees and taxes back to the original form of payment.

ugh....did you try to get it transferred to a different person in your party?

  3. I got my husband a drink package for a really great price. He won't be able to come on the cruise. I would like to transfer it to my mom. Has anyone done this before? I just emailed my TA and waiting to hear back from her. I don't want to return my husbands and rebuy for my mom b/c it is much more expensive now. Some of the details....my dh and I are in one room. My mom is in a different room. Royal doesn't know my dh isn't coming on the cruise yet. I don't mind if my TA has to switch around people and put my mom in my room and my dh in the second room.

    TIA

  4. So.... we had 3 cabins on Oasis. I had my wife and DIL in one room and my son and I in the another in order to take advantage of a discount. I bought my son and DIL both drink packages at 30% off. Then, due to a rate change, I changed switched my wife and son. The drink package stayed with the room and was attached to my wife's reservation. I called RCCL and they said that I had to cancel the one and re-purchase for my son. I was not happy. But, it's the rules. So it seems to me that if you switch your husband and mother now, his drink package should be applied to your mom. At least that's what happened to us. Not sure if that will work, but might be worth it if you want to keep the drink package at the discounted rate. If you know your husband is cancelling, then you will lose the drink package anyway. Otherwise, you'll have to cancel the drink package and you will get a full refund.

I might try this with my TA on Monday. So,,,if i am reading correctly, i move my husband into the kids room and my mom into my room. The drink package will transfer to my mom. At the pier we say my dh is no show. If they won't let the kids room alone - I will transfer one kid to my room and my mom back to her original room. Will the drink package follow my mom?? So confusing. And I can't really call and ask RC.

  5. Call and switch names around. Put the person that may cancel as the third person as the cancellation penalties are less restrictive. On board you can change back to the cabins you want people to sleep in.

We have travel insurance that allows you to cancel for work reasons - so we are covered. But out of curiosity - could I switch names this close to sailing? We are sailing Thanksgiving week. My husband has a different last name than everyone else in our party.

  6. If I understand correctly you originally have 3 in one cabin and two in another and would cancel the third person from the second cabin. We cancelled a third person earlier this year (49 days to sail date) and we were refunded in full for that person.

Kind of....three in one cabin, they are all still sailing. Two in the other cabin....it is this cabin where someone most likely won't be able to travel.

  7. If your mother wants a drink package, go ahead and purchase it now at a discount. Hubby's drink package and port taxes will be refunded if he cannot go. If you get a spare key and your mother stays in your cabin, you will get double C&A points. If you go through getting the name moved over to your cabin, you will not get double points. Just something to think about.

Double points will be nice. However, I am already d+ and I don't see myself ever reaching the next level!

  8. There is Junkanoo Beach (free public beach) within "walking" distance from the pork. I put that in quotes because not knowing your mother, I don't know how long of a walk she can tolerate. It took my family and I about 10-12 minutes to walk there from the cruise port. If you look up Junkanoo, you can find more info.

She can't even walk the length of the pier without stopping for a break. (Oh how I wish she would use a wheelchair!!!) We would have to take a taxi. Is the water calm (for my mom) and do they serve booze (for me)?

  9. We are sailing over Thanksgiving. We have two rooms - not next to each other - maybe 8 rooms apart? In one room is my mom, my daughter(19) and her friend (18). The other room is my husband and myself. There is a 95% chance my husband won't be able to go. We both have the drink package (purchased with a 25% discount). If he doesn't show up will I be able to officially move my mom into my room and have her take over the drink package? Or because of the girls ages would my mom have to still be listed in their room - but crash with me? And if that is the case would the drink package money be refunded to me or could I transfer it to my mom? And since we really won't know if he can go until that day - all of this would have be handled during check-in.

    TIA

  10. We will be in Nassau in a few weeks. We are only there from 7 - 2. I will be traveling with three others - ages 18, 19 and 84. The 84 year old can not walk long distances and will not use a wheel chair. I am looking for something the 4 of us can do between 10 and 1. Is there a beach close by that provides shade, food and drinks. It has to be calm waters so my mother can walk in. Any suggestions?

    TIA

  11. Thank you. Looks like we will hang on the ship that day. There is no way she could walk 1000 feet. However, she is getting a cortisone shot this week - maybe that will help with her walking issue. I hate for her to have to spend all week on the ship.

And the majority (if not all) the streets in the dock area are cobblestone and hard to walk on if she has mobility issues. I use a scooter and was able to travel on most of those streets but it was a very bumpy ride. I too can walk but not very far. I could NEVER have made it from the ship out to the street where the shops begin. It was longer than the entire length of the ship which is about 1000 feet if that gives you any idea how far she will need to be able to walk. And I don't recall seeing a place to sit and rest a moment along the way. There is no golf cart or shuttle there like in other ports.

Also it would be very difficult to push a wheelchair on those cobblestones and up the many hills. The whole area there is hilly. I had to swallow my pride when I needed the scooter but it has made my cruises and other vacations so much better for me and everyone travelling with me.

  12. Sailing on Harmony

    Nov 18th - thanksgiving week

I will be in San Juan from 7am to 2pm with my mother. She can NOT walk long distances (and won't use a wheelchair). Is there shopping near the pier? I know in St Maarten they have a golf cart that will drive people from the ship to the stores - is this offered here as well? It has been a few years since we have been to San Juan and I can't remember.

    TIA
