I love your door Brianna!! :D I always decorate my door as well, it makes it so easy to find!! Would you mind if I borrow your idea on my next cruise? To be honest, I've been running out of them and I love this!! :D What did you write around each picture (besides the ship's name of course)? The Freedom is one of my favourite ships, I've sailed on her twice!!

I also love your Dad's hat, I'm a huge NASCAR fan myself!! :D Who is/are his favourite driver(s)? Mine are Jeff Gordon (who I've loved since about 1992) and Brad Keselowski (who I'm close personal friends with)!! :D You're a good photographer, awesome pic with the ship in the backlground!!

  2. Thank you. I hope you and your BF have a great cruise. Make sure you bring Bonine or some equivalent. I've never been motion sick in my life, but the rocking on the ship definitely got to me. It could be the same for your BF.

You're welcome!! :D I'm sure it'll be a great cruise and we both can't wait!!!! :D Yes, I'll definatly bring some Bonine, thanks for reminding me!! I usually bring it anyway just in case, I've gotten slightly queasy before (usually when the seas are on the rough side) and it's no fun at all!! :( Also, since the Imagination (like the Paradise) is a small(er) ship, I would think that the motion would be more noticeable. I don't want the poor guy to feel sick the whole time!! Do you have any other tips on what to do (or not to do) with a 1st Time Cruiser?

Thanks again and I love all your pics!!!! :D

  3. Thanks so much Kim!! :D I also love reviews by 1st timers, I get to relive my 1st cruise all over again!! You're doing an awesome job and I love your pics!! :D I'm taking my boyfriend on his 1st cruise next year on the Imagination, can't wait!! :D I sent him a link to this review as I like 1st timers to read reviews by 1st timers as they can relate to the reviewer better (IMO)!! I sailed on the Imagination for my 1st cruise so I hope I love the ship as much as I did last time!! :D I love the Fantasy Class (even though I've only ever been on 1 ship in it) and would love to sail them all someday (the Paradise looks beautiful)!!!!

  4. They do sell lanyards in the gift shop. We bought one last week on the Jewel for $4.99 - there were several colors and I think two different designs. You can get the card itself punched at guest services.

My sons' cards had one corner cut off to note their age.

Thanks!!!! I can't wait to try NCL!!!! :D

The one problem we encountered was that on Carnival, the ones you got in the casino were that springy stuff - so you could clip it to your belt and use the slot machines.

Now, there's an idea!! :D I never knew they had those on Carnival (and I'm Platinum, just goes to show how much time I spend in the casino, which is none). They're strechy right? Do they sell those anywhere on land (other than in a casino)? I would think they'd be better than a regular lanyard (something you don't even have to unattach from yourself is even harder to lose)!! :D

They clip the corner of your card to note you are underage.

If you are underage but 18-20 y.o. and have parential consent to drink beer and wine you get a "P.C" printed on your card.

If you are 21 or over nothin is done to your card.

Punching it will not have any effect on drinking ability.

Thanks to you as well!! :D I'm 27 so don't have to worry abo0ut any forms/waivers to allow me to drink :D but I look really young (most people guess I'm somewhere between 15 and 18!!

  5. Also, one more thing (sorry). :o How do they mark underage (20 or younger) cards? I know some cruise lines put a hole in the card of underage cruisers. I normally punch a hole in my card to put it on my lanyard so I don't want to make a huge mistake, punch a hole, then not be able to buy any drinks all week!!

    Thanks a lot!!!! :D :D

  6. I like to carry my cruise card (you know, the one that lets your into your cabin, on and off the ship, and is your onboard credit card, don't know what NCL calls it) or S&S Card as we call it on Carnival, on a lanyard around my neck so I don't lose it. :D I was wondering, do I have to bring my own or do they sell NCL ones in the shop onboard? I like to collect different ones from different cruise lines!! :D I also don't want to be without one (trust me, if I just carried my S&S Card in my pocket, I'd lose it for sure)!!

  7. Has anyone who's been on Dream recently seen those adorable pink/red Blowfish cups? They're super cute and I'd really love to have one!!!! :D :D If you have seen them recently, what day of the cruise do they offer them, do they sell out quickly (meaning you have to get up and at em real early and grab 1 ASAP), and which bar(s) around the ship offer them?

    Thanks!!!! :D :D

    Sent from my iPad

  8. I'll definatly look for the coin(s) when I'n on the Dream in December/January!! :D I'll be sure to post a pic if I find it/them!! :D I'm guessing it/they would be somewhere near/around the funnel.

OT--could you please explain your avatar??

It's the Airship/Zepplin Hindenburg when she caught fire during landing in the late 1930s. I'd still love to know how that fire got started, so horrible and sad!! :( I think something like 30-40 people were killed. I know it was beause of the hydrogen that she was filled with but how did the fire start exactly? A spark I suppose but from what? I don't think anyone knows (or ever will). Here's a picture of the Hindenburg in flight:

    2006556030100208517S600x600Q85.jpg

I think she was beautiful (well, except for the German Army/Government symbols on her tail but that was the time period for those horrors)!!

  9. What day of a 7 day cruise do they normally bring out the blowfish? Is it embarkation day, the 1st sea day, you're 1st full day onboard, what? Also, what time of day do they normally bring them out? If they have any left, do they bring them out more than 1 day (or more than 1 spot on the ship)? If they sell out that fast, I'm trying to plan the exact moment I have to make my apperance on the Lido Deck (and I don't care if it's 6am haha)!!!! :D :D

    Thanks!! :D :D

Yes, I'm quoteing myself, haha!! :D

So, does anyone know the answer to this question (see quote)?

    Thanks!! :D

  10. What day of a 7 day cruise do they normally bring out the blowfish? Is it embarkation day, the 1st sea day, you're 1st full day onboard, what? They got me, I got all the souvenir cups that I saw except the monkey head one.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, I absolutly must have the little fish, super cute!!!! :D :D Does anyone know wether they have them on the Dream?

Don't care about the monkey head or the disco ball, already have a whaletail, and I have enough of the tall, clear (or yellow, or pink) ones to start my own cruiseline, haha but I definatly need the fish!! :D

do the new disco ball and fish glasses have the carnival logo or ship name imprinted on them?

I would imagine they'd have 1 or the other!! :D I'm sure someone here knows!! :D

  12. Hi Avril, this thread is only for 1A cabins. .. but R19 is indeed a insteresting shaped inside cabin.

I would post your picks to the cabin area of CC, or even sell them to cruisdeckplans if you find out how to copy just the link to one picture. they pay 50 cents a picture.

You could post the pics here. and even if some didnt reply now, if they did a later search, your thread would come up. Thats what I try to do.

    http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=207

Oops, sorry!! :o I assumed it was a 1A. It was the only category left when we booked the cruise (about 2 weeks before we sailed) and it would have been the cheapest category anyway. My mistake!! What category is it then?

  13. Here's 2 of mine (I have another couple that I'll post later).

Carnival Freedom - Dec. 2007, me (on the right) with a pal I made on the ship having a little to much fun at Senor Frogs in San Juan :D (that's about my 5th or 6th big drink in my hand). We were definatly feeling happy and didn't really care what we did. The funny thing is, that day was NYE so when we got back on the ship at 9:30pm (we sailed at 10), we had a few more at the New Years party. I'd hate to see any pics of us after the NYE party!!

    2078005320100208517S600x600Q85.jpg

Ok, this isn't from a Carnival cruise but it's pretty good (Now I think it's funny, I didn't then). Oasis of the Seas - Maiden Voyage, Dec. 2009. This is early morning when we docked in St. Thomas. I was out on our balcony taking pictures and for some reason, my Mom snapped this litte gem of me in my PJs. I look awful (I had literaly just gotten out of bed), hair a mess and pulled into a sloppy ponytail, and my rear end looks huge!! I have another one from Oasis that's pretty funny but it's on my other computer.

    2423195600100208517S600x600Q85.jpg

The only double funnel Carnival cruise ship.

    CCL-double.jpg

Not quite. I have one almost exactly like that one. I took it in 2004 when I was on the Victory. When we docked in cozumel, I went out onto the Lido Deck heading for breakfast when I looked up and saw a Carnival funnel apparently growing right out of the Victory's side!! :D When I took a closer look (and after I took a picture), I realized it was the Holiday docked next to us but she was so small that from the top of Victory, all you could see was her funnel!! Definatly looked like Victory grew an extra one!! So, I guess there are 2 double funneled Carnival ships, haha!!

Unfortunatly, I have no idea where the digital version is (got to find that old memory card) so I can't share that pic!! I'll see if I can find it and post it later (along with another good one I have on my other computer).

I added my (former) cabin number to your list!! I have pics in here from cabin R19 (inside cabin) onboard Imagination. :D Just so you know, the cabin might be different now (don't know if they changed the cabins at all when they went into dry-dock or with the EOF upgrades) as I took these on my very 1st cruise in January 2003!!

    http://travel.webshots.com/album/571098732mCuCZr

Sorry you have to look through all my pics!! I couldn't figure out how to take them off of webshots and stick them in here!! :o

  15. Thanks everyone!!!! :D Keep the info comin!! I'd love to see some ship (both inside and out) and cove balcony (if you've got em) pics as well!! :D If anyone has the Eastern itinerary Fun Times, that'd be great too!!!! :D

Does anyone know if it's noisey at night (and for how long during the night) under the galley that's inbetween the 2 main dining rooms? That's where our Cove Balcony is (2393) and I'm wondering if I made a mistake booking that cabin and if I should call Carnival (the cruise was booked through their website) and try to change our cabin to a different Cove Balcony.

OMG, I'm sooooooooooooooooo excited for this cruise, :D it seems like it's forever away!!!! :( It'll probably feel like it's gonna take forever to get here as well, haha!!!!

  16. We loved the Dream. We werealso in a cove balcony. It was really cool being so close to the water. But some of the coves have noise problems from the deck above so be careful which cove you book.

We're in 2393. :D I think it's under the Galley inbetween the 2 Dining Rooms. I figure that it'll be ok since late seating is over by 10:30 at the latest so it should be quiet after that. What do you think? Do you all think I have anything to worry about?

I can't wait to be so close to the water especially when the ship is at sea!!!! :D

Were on the same cruise. We have an aft balcony. I have heard that the hammocks are wonderful to lay on. Just gotta get them early lol

What hammocks? Sounds great!!!! :D :D

  17. I'm sailing on the Dream for New Years (I can hardly wait)!!!! :D I'd like to know everything possible about the ship!! :D Who knows all about the Dream? I'd like to hear about the interior of the ship, the different restaurants/bars/clubs, Lido Deck, Lazor Show (where's the best place to sit to watch it?), ok, I guess just tell me everything you can about the Dream!! :D We're in a Cove Balcony (2393) does anyone know anything about the Cove Balconies? Any pics of these cabins and/or the ship in general? I've seen the ship once in port and she's beautiful (at least, from the outside)!! :D Does anyone have the Fun Times/Carnival Capers from the 7 Day Eastern itinerary (Nassau, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, with 3 sea days)? Where are the smoking areas onboard (other than your balcony)? Can you smoke on the balcony of one of the Cove Staterooms? What did/didn't you like about the ship and why? What shows/bars/lounges/other entertainment did/didn't you like and why?

    Thanks so much!!!! :D

    154 DAYS TO GO!!!! :D

  18. GaPearl, Thanks for writting a review, I really enjoyed it and your pictures are great!! :D You're as big a partier as I am and I would cruise wioth you anyday!! :D This brought back so many memories as the Imagination was the ship I sailed on for my 1st cruise (I did exactly the same itinerary as you did)! It's great to see what she looks like now as when I went (January 2003) they hadn't done all the upgrades yet (not for a few more years). The ship is so special to me :D and I miss her soooooooooo much!! :( I'm planning on doing a B2B on her (3 day then the 4 day) in the next couple of years and I can't wait to sail on her again!! :D She's still my favourite ship of all time because she was my 1st and so will always have a special place in my heart!!!! :D

Here's a link to my pictures from Imagination. It's like a balst from the past after looking at your pictures, haha:

    http://travel.webshots.com/album/571098732mCuCZr

By the way, I also lose my voice by day 2 or 3 on each and every cruise. Don't have a cold or anything and can't think of why it happens but it does every single time and then my voice is gone for the rest of the cruise. My throat is never sore though. I feel your pain, welcome to the club, haha!!

  20. General W. P. Richardson (1944-2004) Built by Federal Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company, Kearny, NJ in 1944 as General W. P. Richardson (her keel had initially been laid as General R. M. Blatchford). Her maiden voyage took her from Boston to Southampton. After the end of the war, she was transferred to the U.S. Army on February 14, 1946 and then laid up in March 1948.

Between 1948 and 1949, she was converted at Pascagoula, Miss. to a passenger liner and then chartered by American Export Lines as La Guardia. Her first voyage took her from New York to Naples to Genoa on May 27, 1949. Her last Mediterranean voyage begun in New York in November 1951. She was returned to the U.S. Maritime Commission on December 1, 1951 and returned to troop service in Korea briefly, before being laid up on the James River in November 1952.

In 1956, she was bought by the Hawaiian-Steamship Company, renamed Leilani, and refitted for California - Hawaii service. Her first voyage from San Francisco to Honolulu took place on February 5, 1957. Her itinerary would include San Francisco or Long Beach to Hawaii, but she also completed several Mexican Riviera cruises in 1958. This service turned out not to be popular and was discontinued in December 1958. She was laid up in San Francisco and then moved across the Bay to the Todd Shipyard in Alameda. She was seized by the U.S. Government on May 12, 1959, put up for auction in June and bought once again by the U.S. Maritime Commission.

She was purchased by American President Lines in July, 1960 and sailed to Seattle, WA for a $10 million refit for luxury liner service which started in March, 1961. She subsequently sailed from Seattle to San Francisco in May, 1962 as President Roosevelt and began her first voyage from San Francisco to Los Angeles to Yokohama, Japan on May 11, 1962. She conducted a world cruise in 1966.

In 1970, she was purchased by the Chandris Line and extensively refitted (she was cut down to two decks above the waterline and had her upper hull and superstructure completely rebuilt) at Perama, Greece for cruising. She was renamed Atlantis and commenced cruising from New York and Port Everglades, Ft. Lauderdale to the Bahamas.

In October, 1972, she was sold to the Eastern Steamship Company as Emerald Seas and used on three and four-night Bahamas (Nassau) cruises out of Miami, Fl. Eastern Steamship Lines became Eastern Cruise Lines and then Admiral Cruise Line. Changes weren't done yet as Admiral Cruises was taken over by/merged into Royal Caribbean Cruise Line (RCCL). RCCL had no use for Admiral's two older ships (Emerald Seas and Azure Seas) so disposed of them in 1992.

In 1992, she was bought by Festival cruises and renamed Sapphire Seas, cruising to Egypt and Israel. She was laid up at Piraeus in October 1994. In the summer of 1998, she was renamed Ocean Explorer I for use at Lisbon, Portugal as one of three Hotel ships for the Expo 98. At the conclusion, she returned to Eleusis, Greece and was laid up once again.

Beginning in November 1999, the World Cruise Company, of Ontario, Canada, began operating her for global cruising with three back to back world cruises from Athens. In May 2000 however, she was taken out on service at the completion on only the first circumnavigation, and she once again was laid up at Eleusis, Greece. Discussions of her possible use as an hotel-ship for the 2004 Olympics in Greece came to nothing. Her long life finally came to an end when, in April 2004, she was sold for scrap to breakers in India.

  22. My 1st cruise was in January 2003 onboard the Imagination (now called the Carnival Imagination). :D It was a 4 day from Miami and we went to Key West, Cozumel and had 1 sea day. Now, 12 cruises later (so yes, it started the addiction), it's still one of my favourites and the Imagination will always have a special place in my heart. :D The ship is 70,367 tons, 855 feet long and carrys 2,052 passengers. I remember when I 1st saw her how huge she looked. I was just looking at a picture of her now and was thinking "OMG! She's so small!!" Here's a pic of her:

    Imagination01.jpg

I have four more cruises crurrently booked: the Carnival Valor for October 2008, the Eurodam for December 2008/January 2009, the Carnival Freedom for May 2009 and the Oasis of the Seas for December 2009. I can't wait to cruise again!! :D Oh, and I got my fiancee into cruising as well. I took him on his 1st cruise in February 2008 on the Carnival Conquest and he's coming on the Valor with me in 3 weeks!!!! :D

My Eurodam cruise will be my 1st on HAL!!
