  1. We will be doing the Epic TA to Spain leaving 4/1/17. On the Getaway, I found Vibe to be invaluable. My instinct tells me that an April TA will be too cold to spend much time in Posh. Another perk of Vibe was the ability to escape all the kids. Kids may not be much of an issue on a TA.

What thoughts to others have about buying Posh on an early April TA?

  2. At first thought I was shocked. After talking it over with my husband (we are a gay couple) he thought the story unbelievable. As I continued to read other posts, I regarded the first post to be credible.

Now I am really concerned. No one who is a passenger should be suspected of being crew. If it is not known - leave them alone. I already know there is a caste system in regards to ship crew. Some crew members are able to do things others cannot. I don't believe any passenger should be subjected to validating who they are. It should be the ships and security responsibility to know who they are questioning and they should be judicious in their accusations. In my mind whether a crew member is gambling or not is our responsibility (nor an emergent issue) and should passengers should not be questioned.

  3. There will be three of us in the room. Will they bring a third lounger for us?

A shame, maybe, that you need to be VERY specific, but why mock? My answer is ask and tip. I'd expect good results. Enjoy your cruise.

  4. Line me up for the firing squad. I'm less concerned about attire than behavior. But to describe your Benedict as a pair of boobies or denigrate another race at meal time is more offensive to me. For these reasons I d on' share tables. I don't care what you wear outside. Inside counts.

  5. We've stayed onboard in St Thomas numerous times, and yes - it's hot on the open decks. That's why there are pools! Usually it's not too hot, fortunately the ship is mostly empty so shade is readily available and pools are not crowded, and bars are empty - and pool bartenders are readily available! There's usually a light breeze. It will depend also in the weather on your particular day.

Give it a go, you may be pleasantly surprised hoe enjoyable it can be...

Thanks for the response - I think you get my thought exactly. Stay on board, enjoy the pools that you don't get to normally and hit the bars in the shade. I'm thinking about staying on board and avoiding the beaches. Great ideas!

  6. A repeat post from our roll call:

A question for those who have stayed on the ship in port days - especially in St. Thomas. Can the deck get extremely hot and can there be enough wind to make it comfortable? I'm not asking for weather predictions, just other experiences - especially in St. Thomas as we are considering staying onboard.

Because we have been to St. Thomas a number of times and tend to hit the bars, I'm thinking about staying onboard to leverage our drink package.

We will be in St. Thomas second half of next month.

  7. We started cruising in my late 30's and until now my very, very early 50's :D. I don't think our transition from Princess to Celebrity is reflective of my age - I think it is more my aversion to children and the desire to relax. In our early cruise years we mainly did gay charters and strictly viewed cruise lines for their offerings. Princess was okay, RCL was fun, HAL was okay, NCL was fun, Celebrity gave us exactly what we wanted. After being on Celebrity a couple times, we tried the NCL Getaway - hated it for the reasons you stated - the entire deck felt like a very crowded playground.

We find Celebrity desirable for the reasons you describe. The martini bar is always active for the evening, but there are other things to do in the evening if you like piano bars and acoustical music. We have not gone to many of the theatre shows because I too often find them uninspired - Celebrity is no different.

We have never felt that the age demographics of Celebrity was too old. We have regularly met people our age - and lately even younger. If you do the activities you enjoy, you will find the same. Your cohorts will you usually be within your age group give or take 10 years.

I think it would be a shame if you did not give Celebrity a chance. With their prices and packages, I don't think they can be beat. NCL is a close match with pricing and packages, but the large ships aren't for us. But we do enjoy the smaller NCL ships.

  8. We were on the 10/3/15 Getaway and going on the 4/16/16 Summit - again. Although it was my least favorite cruise, I still enjoyed it.

The Getaway was very crowded and missed the connection to the sea. We had a Vibe pass and felt like it was our only haven from the crowds.

The Summit has a distinct nautical feel. It does not attract families and therefore it feels more upscale. All of the public areas have a relaxed feel and it is very easy to meet others and make friends. There also seems to be more small scale music and the venues suit it without crowding.

Both are fine ships, just a different feel.

  9. Sorry but all prices rise because of inflation. If alcohol price raises because of inflation, the gratuity raises at the same time the same relative amount. Since the percentage was raised too, the gratuity was raised twice - more than just inflation would have required.

I really do not see how that double dipping would be justified - if this keeps on going, in couple of decades you would be paying 50% gratuities "because a dollar doesn't stretch as far as it used to" even though the base price on which the gratuity is based on definitely raises according to the inflation all the time.

Flat wrong. Prices rise, gratuity rises - regardless of %. % rise in gratuity is a grab for more $. No opinion here. Just fact.
