We loved the balcony on 1100 and never had any noise problems from the WJ above (probably because that area is not open late), but a word of caution for those with motion problems - the beds on the aft facing balconies are oriented horizontally to the direction of the ship, so you will have a completely different sense of motion than in cabins where the beds point vertically to the direction.

I know what you mean about the beds but I’m used to aft cabins, just not the amount of noise I experienced on the Brilliance

We have had 1100 and did not have issues with noise from above.  It is a great cabin and great balcony.

That’s good to know as I did have problems about 2am with a cabin in the middle of the aft on Brilliance last year on deck 10.  I’d already booked 1100 when this happened

We adore 9256 as a favorite.   Would rather have our usual choice of a JS on that size of ship, but unfortunately 1100 is directly below the outdoor WJ (which includes outdoor voice level talking) and as mentioned, the scraping of chairs and early morning, late evening cleaning.

I’ve 6 weeks in 1100 in January, so I think I’d better take earth plugs

We were in Bologna on a Friday night.  It seems that for the best food you have to book your restaurant ahead.  I was cross with DH because we got stuck with a mediocre restaurant because he would not go with our Air BnB owner’s recommendation when we checked in.  By the time we went to book at about 7 pm it was too late.

I can imagine the disappointment!! The afternoon in Bologna on the return trip was great, just closed in the evening.  Back to Venice in September

Let me put in a plug for flying to Venice for Ravenna.  Last fall our cruise embarkation was moved from Venice to Ravenna.  Instead of staying in Venice pre-cruise we spent a night in Padua – well worth a day! – and then took a private transfer to Ravenna – well worth a day or two!  Flying non-stop to/from Venice meant we didn't have to worry about where our luggage was going once Delta's app told us it was on the plane!  Once the new cruise terminal is built near Venice you won't have this great 'excuse' to see two interesting and out of the way Italian cities, so do it now!

Going back to the original in September (as we’ve done for many years) and flying into Venice with a private transfer arranged both ways to and from Ravenna. A stay in Venice either side of the cruises

  6. Bologna is the closest airport to fly into.  Last year, we chose to travel straight down and stay at a hotel in Ravenna - there are few taxis available to take you from

Ravenna to the actual port, which is still quite a distance away.  If you chose this option, make sure you book a taxi at the hotel as soon as you arrive.  We chose to stay in Bologna overnight on leaving the ship (Sunday) and fly out the next day.  The plan was to have a nice meal in the evening to celebrate a friend’s birthday - there were plenty of restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel but none were open - apparently, they don’t open Sunday evenings!!!

I am seeing lots of shorts in the dining room and some other costumes best suited for the red light district.  😮

Also a lot of dripping wet swimsuits in the lounges and the WJ.   Sat on a chair that I did not notice was wet.  Yuck.

There are definitely some interesting outfits!!

Which this week has been very crowded.  Found out why so many families. The schools in Puerto Rico don't resume classes until 1/17!    Arrived Barbados this morning.  Will head our soon.  There are 3 other ships in port and we're far from terminal so they are running shuttles.  Other ships are an Aida, a Tui and Club med 2.  I did create a stir with officers yesterday after the cheers with officers lunch where there were a few "service" dogs in attendance,  one of which was wandering around the dining room.  These are obviously pets. I know Royal has to comply with ADA but there's got to be some rules.  Precovid I thought they had tried to ban these pets but they are back.

That is totally inappropriate and I would have had to say something as I’m allergic to dogs and would have ended up sneezing like crazy and itching at my eyes
