Princess has the perfect opportunity to take back over the strict enforcement of clothing  in the traditional dining room on the SUN Princess when it launches.

    👍 agreed

    Why?

25% tip is exactly the same as 25% added to restaurant prices and no tip.

That's one way to look at it. Another way is, that large of an increase on items priced at seventy five dollars lends itself to shock value. One visit you payed $75.00 for that steak, it was a great dining experience, and you want to do it again next week. What was $75.00 last week is now $94.00 . That starts to push the phycological threshold of comfort. The I'll decide has been taken away from you. With the approval of the staff I tried the included approach. Within nine months, returning patronage had fallen double digits. A large percentage of costs can be mitigated in the food service industry, labor isn't one of them. I can assure you that the servers and back of the house prefer the "I'll decide" approach. So, with the approval of the staff, they voted to go back to the previous model of service.

Tonight after a tasty dinner, we then headed to the theater to watch another production show we hadn’t seen before called Let Me Entertain You, and had a great time! 😁

Then it was off to the Explorers Lounge to watch the always hilarious Liar’s Club! 😂

When we got back to the cabin, we were just in time to catch our first sunset over Antarctica!

Then we waited 5 minutes and it got a little more colorful.

Then after another 5 minutes it was awesome!

That’s the trick with sunsets. Sometimes the best ones are after the sun drops below the horizon! 😁

I have to say, I find this more picturesque and stunning then Alaska.

I'm just off Grand Princess and my perception was that as far as men were concerned, the number wearing tuxes could be counted on two hands. I wore a dark jacket, business shirt and tie but few others did. For the most part there was next to no difference between non-formal and formal nights.

interesting 🤨  ...  I see  Yanks have infiltrated the the Grand Princess ...lol

    Yep.

And I would describe as stupid rather than silly.

Maybe one day the “traditional” fake acting while some passengers wave their used napkins around will end forever.🤣

    Cheers

what is their reason for this "traditional" baked Alaska parade ?

  8. awww boy, you think that after 12 years and 1550 post's, that the well traveled folks that have contributed to this thread would have noticed, that just because it's done in America it should be done all over the world. There are many health practices adopted in  North America that are not common in other countries. Since the cruise industry is international both in passenger /crew and travels, it would behoove them to cater to the percentage, (even if small one)  of tobacco smokers and or vapors. The last cruise I was on in the south Pacific had the highest amount of smokers  I've seen enjoying  one another's company on deck seventeen aft. The casino was off limits to them 👍 but, if these folks want to partake in this type of activity knowing risks, it's their choice.

I don't dispute your right to smoke where smoking is permitted. I do heartily take issue with cruise lines permitting smoking anywhere that smoke can travel to common areas, though. I realize banning all smoking would not be ideal for cruise line business, which is why I propose cruise lines only permit smoking outside on the very top deck. Make it a super boring deck above absolutely everything else. Smoking only. I mean, I'd even be magnanimous enough to say they could give the smokers their very own little bar up there. Put some slot machines on the bar, even! Puff, puff, pull.... Puff, puff, pull... Can you visualize it? All that smoke never coming near the non-smokers below!

Hopefully, the Cruise Gods see this message and I change the world right here on the Cruise Critic message boards. 😆

some cruise lines have gone as far as to incorporate enclosed smoking casino areas in their new designs.
