I do know that a possible work around is traveling to France first, & staying long enough to go through their system with an approved pharmacy:

    https://parisbymouth.com/how-to-transform-your-american-vaccination-card-into-a-french-health-pass/

This pass would be acceptable under Norway's requirements

things to keep in mind:  1. there is no guarantee (which is why I personally switched my cruise to Med. instead)

    2.   If your last shot (including boosters) is more than 6 months at when your traveling some countries won't accept...   we will both be getting 4th shots about 4 weeks before we leave, otherwise we'd have trouble in Italy & a few other places.

There's a good chance the U.S. will come up with an agreement with the E.U. by spring, but I'm not going to take the chance with final payment for our Norway cruise just weeks away.  We'll be going to Croatia, Montenegro, Greece & Italy instead...  very sad about Norway though.

thanks. Might work if I wasn’t on a transatlantic cruise. Enjoy your Med cruise!

Just curious, what documentation can't you get as a US person to meet Norway's entry criteria?

According to the Norwegian Embassy site, they will accept the EU digital Covid certificate for entry into Norway. https://www.norway.no/en/usa/norway-usa/san-francisco/travel-restrictions---covid-19/

With a few weeks lead time we obtained EU digital Covid certificates (with QR codes) last fall prior to our visit to France. We got our certificates at no charge. Last I heard they started charging for foreigners but the service is still available. I need to look into whether there's a requirement to update our certificates now that we're boostered.

Hope this helps (unless I'm missing something), but be sure to give yourself some lead time if you go this route.

Would you please clarify whether you received your EU certificates electronically prior to arriving in France and what steps you took to make this happen?

We are booked on a Viking Ocean cruise (Viking Homelands itinerary) this August departing from Bergen. I was concerned that we (US citizens and fully vaccinated and boosted) couldn't get a UK or EU Digital Covid Vaccination certificate which is required to enter Norway and apparently there are no exceptions. We recently received a document from Viking in our account that Viking will secure an EU Digital Certificate on our behalf and instructions will follow as it gets closer to August. One less thing to worry about doing correctly 🙂

That’s awesome!  Just hope Holland America and others do the same for their passengers

We just had our first aft-facing cabin on our Allure of the Seas in October and loved it for both of those reasons. The only real drawbacks I've read is on a few ships the smokestack exhaust can be noticeable depending on wind, and the ends of the ship have more noticeable motion in rough seas. We're pretty immune to motion sickness so if I couldn't find anyone complaining about the smoke issue I wouldn't hesitate to book another aft-facing cabin.

Was that on a transatlantic cruise?  If so, I am guessing it was an east to west given the time of year.  Just wondering about wind/sun conditions on an aft-facing Spring west-east transatlantic.

  5. I’m thinking these tests might be our best bet for returning to Canada from Amsterdam after a Spring transatlantic on HAL.

I realize there is no way to predict what entry test requirements might be anywhere 3 or 4 months from now, but we believe our best chance of a successful return to Canada will be to go straight from the ship to the airport in Amsterdam at the end of our TA/Norwegian fjords cruise. The Netherlands still requires testing and/or quarantine unless your purpose is expressly for transit. No idea whether cruise lines will provide testing in Europe this spring/summer.

does anyone know whether the tests can be proctored from Amsterdam?  If they can, should we do this using the ship’s internet the day before disembarking?  The day of?  We will have the ship’s internet package. Or are we better to wait until we are on terra firma at the port or the hotel?

@BtimmerI’ve talked to her a few times, she’s been very nice.  If you see her again, tell her your CC buddy would love to

be able to roll around in an isolated patch of sand on half moon cay!  I promise

    to wear an N-95.

I think it’s the least they could do for you, along with providing your own personal tender 😁

  7. Thanks so much for taking the time to post your review and great photos!  My daughter and I are booked on the April transatlantic and have decided to go ahead with final payment after seeing what awaits us 💕.  Can’t wait to explore every inch of this new and beautiful ship.

I might still consider an up sell to a suite for the right price, but I have a particular fondness for houndstooth and was disappointed to see different carpets in the suites.   Will definitely give the Dutch Cafe a try.

  8. The fact that you can fly within Canada with a positive test certainly doesn’t mean you should. The point is that you don’t need to be tested to fly domestically. Personally, if I have any Covid-like symptoms, I self-isolate for the minimum 5 days required in Ontario.

That’s the problem right there and it’s happening all across the US.  People who test Positive and take flights.  That’s why the spread will never end.  This Canadian family may have taken the news well that they got Covid but flying and exposing everyone at the airport and on the flight … you think that’s good?  If they would have driven straight home to quarantine, that would be good …. but going on a plane when your Positive … that’s selfish.

The difference is …. Canadian airlines will not let you board a flight without a Negative PCR test … American airlines don’t require any testing.  Hence, Americans are able to fly anywhere domestic, even if they’re Positive … albeit, many are unaware …. but many are aware and fly anyway.

This is not true. There is no requirement for Covid testing for a fully vaccinated person to fly within Canada.

I do agree that it is incredibly irresponsible to travel through any airport and board a flight while knowingly positive for Covid.

We did this trip in spring 2019. I am not a good long distance flier, so we opted to do a 28 day Princess cruise. It was so worth doing! The scenery of each Island and the colour of the water everywhere was like nothing I have ever seen before or since. The soft breezes everywhere, the musical sounds of the natives speaking........ all just seemed beautiful and magical. It is a trip worth the hassles. On the other hand, perhaps experiencing it with no extra worries would be better.  But if you are able to go, definitely GO!

since the larger cruise ships are no longer allowed in Bora Bora, do you still think the cruise is worth doing without that port?  I would still go, but my sister is on the fence since she really chose the cruise because Bora Bora is on her bucket list. She doesn’t do well with long flights either, so cruising out of Tahiti is not feasible.

I appreciate that the above posts refer to cruises from the US, but as the European cruising season is approaching,  it is worth noting  that at present, positive cases, AND close contacts,  even if testing negative, are not permitted to quarantine on board,  and have to be disembarked to government approved quarantine facilities.

Is this the policy of all European countries or the cruise lines that are currently operating in Europe?  Is there a governing body for European cruises or can each cruise line put their own policy into place?  What would keep Princess from continuing their onboard isolation practice once they start cruising in Europe this year?
