  1. I have no idea. I don't know why they would offer that to you either. In theory it is 'possible' but beyond foolish. Many, many people fly 'day of'. But they land early in the a.m.
  2. @daniel3417, I beg you to change your flight. 12:45p scheduled arrival at Orlando for a Final Boarding deadline of 2:30p simply won't work. Call Carnival today. And welcome to Cruise Critic.
  3. My thoughts exactly. I think the word was given to 'clean up that situation pronto'.
  4. Smoking is NOT allowed in the Club. Indoors, it is only allowed in the casino. Outdoors, it is only allowed on the starboard side of Deck 10 in a designated area.
  5. The cheapest 4 night is almost always the M-F Catalina sailing. We've done it 3 times I think, and always enjoy ourselves. But it's too far flung to make sense if you're not already on the west coast.
  6. To follow-up on what others have said, the only risk you have with any 7 day Carnival Mex Riv cruise is the fact that it's 1000 nautical miles from Cabo to Long Beach and they do it with one sea day. It can and does happen that docking in Long Beach can be delayed up to a few hours because of weather. That happened to us about a year ago. And it's not a 1/100 chance; maybe more like 1/25. Those same rules apply for Firenze if your planning on taking her that same 7 nighter when she's subbing for Panorama this Fall. Now IF your planned Firenze cruise is a standard 5 nighter that's a horse of a different color. On those cruises her last day is spent at Ensenada, an easy overnight commute back to an always 'on time' arrival at the Long Beach terminal. Here's one advantage. You will certainly know 24 hours ahead of time if you will be delayed because of weather as you bash waves coming up the Baja. Half our passengers last year were online with Southwest changing their flights! That day, we docked about 11am.
  7. So @KeepCalmBearOn, any thoughts/recommendations on a park/sleep/cruise? My usual resources on that seem not to be an option. We're doing a two week Hawaii out of Long Beach (sorry for the hijack) and likely won't consider parking at the terminal as we normally would for a 5-7 day. We DO have the option to fly early a.m. from Vegas as Plan B could always be 'Quick, back to the car!' and we're certainly not ever 'day of' flyers to Miami.
  8. Many, many people with scooters (or other mobility devices) use regular cabins on every single cruise. What's new is the STRICT enforcement of 'No Parking Outside' and 'We WILL be measuring' in the terminal. I believe Carnival has a contracted 'preferred scooter company' for rentals right at the terminal. All their scooters fit through the door. As @mz-s said, contact Special Needs. Either your sister misunderstood the PVP or the PVP is simply wrong.
  9. One of the things that a nice Grandpa can do in this situation is to offer to take a backpack or two back to his own cabin for the kids. We've done that. We've also purposefully been seated at the Lobby Bar enjoying a Bloody for the sole purpose of tweaking our kids when they FINALLY walked up the gangplank to appropriate eye-rolling from our lowly Gold daughter and Red son-in-law. Heck, we wrote that last college tuition check years ago! #onyourown! 😎
  10. That's because the house advantage on slots is much higher. Slot players literally built Vegas.
  11. NOT correct @hard_eight. Their adult children and their kids will absolutely not be allowed to board with Plat Grandma/Grandpa when that group gets called in the terminal.
  12. Let me give you a quick primer. Your adult kids (and their children) will certainly be held to whatever their VIFP status is. As you said, you can check in at 16 days; they can at 14. There is absolutely no piggybacking on your Platinum status. (ie. they can't board when you can as Plats are called). Also, they can't take advantage of any other perk you get like luggage drop-off or early tenders. The only exception to this boarding situation is minor children of a Platinum cardholder and persons staying in the Priority cardholders cabin. As to Arrival Appointments (which is what you sign up for at check-in as distinguished from 'Boarding Times'), it sort of depends on the port as to whether YOU will be strictly held to that selected 30 minutes slot. Some yes (Long Beach for example), some not so much or at all. In contrast, your adult kids will most certainly be held to their Arrival Slot pretty much anywhere although there are always exceptions. IF you all want to arrive and board together, your best bet is to board with them when their turn comes. You can also tweak your own Arrival Appointment after they are able to get one so you match up.
  13. Are you an old Navy guy @chengkp75? If so, thanks for your service.
  14. Hey, she was the difference in the biggest naval battle of the war. And they almost got her back home but a rogue sub spotted the tow.
  15. Don't want to speak for @jimbo5544 but I think he's asking if that hull replacement patch is something that can be completed in the typical 3-4 week dry dock timeframe. My guess is no problem. Heck, the Navy patched up Yorktown in 3 days prior to the Battle of Midway.
  16. Our thoughts are similar @CruizinSusan70. I think Port Everglades is possible. But I'm much more inclined to think Mardi Gras starts a 4/4/5 or 3/4 from Miami. Greater product differentiation and options for the customer base. The short cruise market is huge and Celebration Key IS the destination. We've all talked about Disneyfication on this thread. The strategy you outlined fits right in.
  17. We've cruised Galveston 2-3 times. Always Hobby and always a hotel right by the airport to catch Galveston Express in the a.m. Works pretty good. My issue is the limited itins. Plus I like Big Easy more. And since we have to fly anyway. I like Valor but do wish they'd upgrade the 7 day boat.
  18. That could certainly be true. But supply is necessarily limited and strong demand forces up prices. I think I learned that Freshman year undergrad somewhere. 🙂 That is a huge audience within driving distance. No doubt Carnival will always keep as many big ships there as possible.
  19. Only if by 'best' concerning Galveston you mean your personal favorite. It's significantly smaller compared to the Big 2 in terms of passengers embarked. Carnival sails the following 5 ships out of Miami: Celebration, Horizon, Magic, Sunrise and Conquest, all year round. They sail the following 3-4 ships from Galveston: Jubilee, Breeze and Dream with Miracle seasonally after she gets back from Europe. So they do much greater capacity from the Miami home port. It's not even close. Port Canaveral will also have 5 ships next winter after Venezia gets added to the mix as a seasonal. Not everything is bigger in Texas! 😁
  20. It's no biggie at the moment but the web document print feature has been down all day. IT has sure had their problems over time. Anyone with success or an update? I know the FB groups are complaining so I'm not alone with the issue.
  21. Sunshine is about 102k tons. Vista is 133k, MG, 181k. Little factoid for you. When Sunshine launched as Destiny in 1996, she was the largest cruise ship in the entire world and the first ever over 100k. You'll see many of us on these boards lamenting the floating shopping mall, Vegas casino monstrosities that are being built and obviously in demand these days. But the neat thing about cruising is that there's a product for everyone who enjoys the sea. My smallest ship and perhaps my favorite cruise ever was aboard the 2.3k ton (yes, you read that right) 360 ft Star Clipper sailing vessel. Yes, she heels over. Now THAT'S going to sea. Enjoy your cruise!
  22. @starstruck05, there's no reason to be defensive. Many of us, myself included, love sailing from New Orleans. And by the way, the terminal is just fine. I also LOVE being able to walk from my hotel that morning. All good.
