  1. Trains run frequently and are reliable: several companies operate between both cities. I believe most require 1 transfer, but it is best to check the dates and times on each site. https://www.thetrainline.com/ https://www.raileurope.com/ https://www.italiarail.com/ If you prefer to travel by car or shared van- here are a few companies that offer this service: https://www.amauryncc.it/ https://www.venicegroupservices.it/en/
  2. We flew AA Premium Economy from Barcelona to JFK last September. We were originally booked on BA and flights were changed- My opinion, AA Premium Economy is better than the same on BA. Food and flight attendant service were good, seats comfortable and you do receive Priority Boarding, (group 3 if I recall). Depending on the plane, seat pitch is 35"-38"? Here are the perks received in this class: https://www.aa.com/i18n/travel-info/experience/seats/premium-economy.jsp Since AA and BA are partner Airlines, make sure the planes are not operated by BA, our last experience with them was awful.
  3. I agree about contracting with a car service- there are several companies. Domenico is highly recommended. They can go to the airport or to Piazzale Roma in Venice should you choose to stay overnight. I do not know their rates as I've only reserved a large van (for 8 passengers). The company is very reliable, has great reviews and offers several types of vehicles. https://www.venicegroupservices.it/en/trieste-cruise-port-transfer-service/
  4. My husband and I tested positive for COVID on our cruise from last September, He tested positive 3 days in, I tested positive on day 6. FOR CRUISE FARE: We contacted the cruise line, submitted detailed documentation, including the detailed medical form authorized by the ship's medical team and we both received FCC for 90% of the original fares paid. We received the credits within 12 hours of submitting documentation. AIRLINE (IF APPLICABLE): We decided to return earlier than scheduled and paid hefty change fees. Post trip, we again submitted documentation and received full reimbursement from the insurance provider. MEDICATION RECEIVED: If you receive medication onboard, your medical provider may or may not reimburse. Our cruise line confirmed they would reimburse if our health care provider would not, but we have Kaiser, Medicare and they also reimbursed in full. Best advice is to retain detailed records of EVERYTHING and when submitting claims, include a cover letter listing in detail the documents being submitted. This will assist the person viewing your claim to hopefully make a quick decision.
  5. We used it once. For our trip in September we used AMEX's silver plan and they came through for us. Both my husband and I contracted COVID (we probably got it in transit and not on the ship based on when we showed symptom). We were quarantined in our cabin for 6 days and luckily we disembarked in Barcelona which did not require us to quarantine before flying home. The cruise line gave us 2 FCC for 90% of the fares, our Kaiser Medicare paid $1600 for the Paxlovid we received on board and AMEX paid in full for the airline change fees and cancelled excursions, as we flew home 2 days earlier than planned. Tips: keep EVERY receipt and when submitting a claim, include a clear cover letter which explains what documents are being submitted and why. AMEX only requested one additional item- the actual clinical, diagnostic-medical test taken onboard. Once they received it, they approved the claim. For our next trip, we are using this company https://www.travelinsurance.com/. We liked it as you can totally customize all the various parts of the policy and purchase only what you want. We added: cancel for any reason and the cost was most reasonable. Do not want to repeat this experience ever again.
  6. If available, opt for Premium Select- from JFK to Rome. Flying Jet Blue from the west coast and staying overnight near JFK. When searching, we discovered that some of Delta's flights don't offer Premium Select on the flights from Europe- so we opted for their Comfort +. The seat pitch, meals, check-in process and baggage allowance helped us make the decision. If you are watching the flights, their prices go up and down daily. We also looked at American though their fares appeared to be substantially higher and they code share with BA- after a less than stellar experience with BA, we vowed never to fly them again.
