  1. Can you do an inside and a balcony for a reasonable price? The kids can use the inside as a bedroom and you can meet up in your cabin. My kids were always out and about and only used the cabin for sleeping and showering.
  2. That’s a remarkable achievement! Think of it as losing the equivalent of 10 five pound bags of sugar or a very heavy suitcase! Congratulations!
  3. Wow! I got gas this morning and it was $4.14. I passed a BP that was $3.91 cash / $3.99 credit. That’s in *****, SC. Our small town local station was $4.29.
  4. Over 30 years ago my oldest son played t-ball for one season. The kids were 5 years old. One parent threw a fit and cussed at one of our team’s players. He had tagged a runner. Problem was the coach hadn’t explained he needed to have the ball to do it. The next season we started soccer. Most of the parents knew nothing about it and were happy if their kid kicked the ball a few times.
  5. We had 2 people in a 2 bedroom grand suite. I tried to add a third person and they repriced it. The additional cost was over $4,000. I booked a inside right across and the rate for 1 person was less than $1,000. Didn’t make any sense at all.
  6. There are millions of us who enjoy soccer. I’m a Liverpool fan and can’t wait for the game to finally start. Seems the French security has really been inept.
  7. I have a question about the packages. For my 9 day Canada and New England cruise the current sale has the following- surf & stream 1 person $179.91 2 people $359.82 1 person & 2 devices. $278.91 Is there a reason not to buy the third option for my son & me? I assume we will have only one username and password, but can use 2 devices at the same time. Why would I pay an extra $80 for a separate username and password?
  8. I was very surprised on our 8 night Mariner cruise that lobster night was not the second formal night. Looking around the MDR I estimated 10% really dressed up, 70% in business casual type clothes and 20% in very casual outfits. I had expected more people in formal dress. The average age was fairly high and almost no children.
  9. I’ve found Alaska cruises are more casual. I think it’s because most of the luggage space is taken up with heavier clothes. Jeans take up more room than shorts, no room for fancy clothes.
  10. We paid $80 each in February. We had lots of OBC and decided to try it out. Afterwards we decided it was worth no more than $50 each. Lunch was very good and bar service in loungers was nice. But definitely not worth the small fortune they are usually priced at.
  11. Elevators were crowded last week with 2900 passengers. And in the midst of it, there was the piano guy tying up one of them. We walked when possible, but took them when we had to. I could walk down from 8 to 3 for dinner, but not back up.
  12. We had very few service issues. We had signed up for MTD at 6:00 and switched to early sitting at 5:30. Most nights we were out in about an hour. In the solarium the bar people were around quite often. Playmakers was a little slow, but food was great. Lunch at Johnny Rockets was quick. Our room steward was great. My one trip to guest services was easy.
  13. We were also on the Mariner cruise last week. After reading this, I did one of the at home tests and I’m negative. We were out and about each day and ate in the MDR. or windjammer most days. We didn’t wear masks. I have great sympathy for those who tested positive, but wanted everyone to know that some of us made it okay.
  14. Just off Mariner Sunday. Food ranged from very good to blah. Some of the highlights were the nachos at Playmakers, the lobster in MDR, the sweet chili chicken at lunch in the Windjammer. DS loved the Indian food at lunch. Only 2 major misses, the TexMex night in the windjammer (blandest I’ve ever had) and cold baked potatoes in the windjammer. I thought the breakfast sandwich at Cafe Promenade was almost as good as McDonald’s. Overall, I’d give them a solid B+.
  15. Thanks for the quick response! I was thinking that I would need to accumulate cash for all the tips. Credit card plus extras is so much easier.
  16. In June we are going on our first river cruise and we’re very excited. It’s the Rhine and Moselle. I have a couple of questions. How is the internet? DH is debating bringing his laptop or not. A neighbor who has been on several river cruises (but not Avalon) said it was slooow. Tipping, how much and how is it handled? We’re used to ocean cruises where a set amount is added to your account and goes to your credit card at the end. Do I need cash or will a credit card work?
  17. Suite concierge told us about 2900 on Mariner last week. I did not hear anyone talking about massive numbers of people positive. Even if there had been 3% positive, that’s less than 90 people. That would leave over 2800 not impacted. The cruise was great with really good ports. Only you can decide what your comfort level is.
  18. I’m so sorry to hear about your positive test. But, probably better today than later and being quarantined. We got off about 7:40 and took the shuttle back to parking lot. No boot on the car and nobody around to collect so we just left. On the road at 8:10. Home in SC at 4:15. I have never seen so many state troopers on I-95!
  19. Lobster last night was quite good. Our MTD got changed to early and we were a few minutes early. Lobster was tender and flavorful, best I’ve had on a cruise for years. Solarium is crowded today. Only 3 empty chairs at 7:00. Lots of towels though. Staff did come around and move things off. The couple on our left played podcasts rather loudly. I asked him to turn it down and he was happy too. On our right was a couple who had a bed and the lounger next to it. As an old friend used to say “I’ve done seen it all.” A woman came by and plopped down on the bed next to the wife. She refused to move unless the husband gave up his seat! Wow!
  20. We’re with you this week. We also had to park in the open lot, but there was nobody collecting parking fees. Maybe we get a free pass.
  21. On our way to Cocoa Beach for Mariner tomorrow (three negative tests!) we needed to stop for gas and I saw a sign for Bucees. Since everyone here has talked about it we decided to stop. Most of the gas spots were busy so I pulled behind a car. After a minute or 2 I realized nobody was pumping. In fact, both cars were empty! Looking around, many of the cars were empty! People had used the gas pumps as parking since they were closer than the actual parking. How inconsiderate. Finally found an unblocked pump, got gas and moved to a parking space. Went inside and WOW! It was huge and had an enormous amount of stuff. Didn’t get anything except a bottle of water.
