  1. It comes down to martinis and wine.

If you like martinis with premium (grey goose vodka) and better wine by the glass selection, the premium will pay for itself.

If you are ok with bar brand with mix, you're likely ok with the classic.

Not sure about the beer - there may be drafts at the aft bar but not certain. I know there are bucket of beer specials around the pool.

    Hope this helps.

I was worried also and as it turned out, Classic was OK with us. Wait til your onboard to decide.

  2. Now how are you going to figure how long a chair has been vacant? Are. You going to watch and time it?

Obviously enough busy bodies do. My contention is those are more of a problem. They do waste their time paying attention. I look forward to the time that is a large concern to me. Who truly care as it all works in the end.

  3. Carvacrol (oregano oil) kills norovirus and can be purchased at health food stores or on amazon.com

Just eating food with oregano in it doesn't prevent norovirus but the concentrated oil apparently does.

    http://www.medicaldaily.com/oregano-oil-fights-norovirus-carvacrol-shown-kill-foodborne-pathogen-hints-new-disinfectant-269123

Not quite that simple: "Turns out oregano oil cut virus numbers by 10-fold. Carvacrol: 10,000-fold. In comparison, bleach achieves a million-fold reduction. The results appear in the Journal of Applied Microbiology. [D. H. Gilling et al., Antiviral efficacy and mechanisms of action of oregano essential oil and its primary component carvacrol against murine norovirus]"

  4. Having cruised mostly NCL the past few years, there is NO WAY you can enter the buffet without 2 crew members there to spray you down with " washy washy"!

They even sing a song while doing it.

    GREAT IDEA

No one gets by with a "no thanks"!

I'm surprised it's not required at Celebrity.

    They do.

  5. The hygiene standards of the passengers is a serious concern, we did not use the Ocean view cafe during a recent Eclipse cruise, it was too dangerous - the sooner they make it counter service the better for everyone.

IMHO, a bit of over reaction on this comment. I take typical precautions but the buffet just one area of a gazillion.

  6. Reading on here about the seeming decline of dress standards on formal nights, have I just wasted my money buying a new tux? On Eclipse in August!

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Personally, I never take a tux anymore. With luggage restrictions on flights, a tux for one or two nights it's not worth it. A dark suit, sport coat is adequate to me.

    Do as you wish.

  7. I disagree vehemently with the idea that X= geriatric.

we have sailed Celebrity and in our Mid 40s were smack dab in the MIDDLE of the average age. and the older folks that do sail are less geriatric and more fun loving very active seniors.

I've always contended that each cruise takes on a different atmosphere. On mine, we are later fifties and there were few younger than us. AND far from fun loving.

  8. A hack? So you're already of the understanding that the televisions are specifically set up for this NOT to be done. But you want to find a way to bypass it, and possibly muck the television up for the next guest....

All this so you can sit in your cabin and watch you computer projected on the television...

You sound fun to travel with:rolleyes:

And how would this "muck" something up?

PS: our laptop gets put in the safe and not taken out until after the cruise. No phone, no laptop = vacation.

  9. Is the Clasic pkg unlimited? By that I mean the number of drinks? We had it last year but thought it was limited to a certain amount each day. I am sure we never came close but I am curious. Also, does it still include the fresh squeezed orange juice?

Yes on the OJ. Added a shot of vodka a few mornings also :).

  10. That was probably not Celebrity. They do offer free tours of the galley. Captains Club members get backstage tours. But an extensive tour like what you experienced is not free. Search this board for posts about the Behind the Scenes tour to see what is included.

A few weeks ago, my DW and her friend took a free tour of the galley(s) on the Equinox. It was in the daily.

  11. Hi everyone!

I have the classic beverage package and was just wondering if this covers what I and my partner like to drink. Im quite simple as I only drink beer i.e budweiser. My fiance enjoys malibu and coke and archers and lemonade etc. She also like cocktails but I'm guessing that they'll be out of the budget?

Does anyone have a menu of the drinks menu and cost for example?

And lastly, before I witter on too much, is there a snag on how many drinks you can have per night/over the cruise?

I, too, was concerned when I took my cruise a few weeks ago. As it turned out, I did not need to upgrade. We had plenty of choices and there really isn't a true drink menu as there are more drinks made than one could list.

Now in the case of a "picky" drinker, that may be an issue but I have traveled enough to be flexible as there are times (domestically and foreign) that my brand was not available and I used the bartenders suggestion and it all works in the end.

    I think you'll be fine.

  12. Again and again as I read cruise reviews, I read of the frustration of cruisers who see unoccupied loungers in prime locations usually empty for hours. Apparently, cruise staff do nothing about this. What would be wrong if someone looking for a lounger removed the abandoned property after a reasonable time -20 minutes?- 1/2 hour? Actually, no one is paying extra for their often daylong reserved lounger? Would those on this board agree that this is a reasonable solution?

Just back from the Equinox a few weeks ago. The pool butlers did a good job of enforcing the posted 30 minute rule. Actually, a lady saved my stuff and chair as I went to have a cigarette and grab some food and bring back to the pool to eat, the butler attempted to take my stuff. I don't think I was gone that long but may have been. Good for them.

As to self policing, it should not happen and I'm always concerned with others that take things like that on themselves. They end up being the fuddy-duddy of the cruise as too many people get too worried about other's business.

  13. Wet t-shirt contests are not Disney like in any way /shape /form. When we sailed Carnival we looked forward to port days to have a decent meal. The MDR was like eating at Old Country Buffet. And if black kakhi's are dressy, then yes people were dressed up. I did not see a single tux on either Carnival cruise. This was our experience both times. The sexy leg & wet t-shirt poolside contest were not "family" friendly as Disney Is. Carnival was like a non stop spring break & not a place to take young children IMHO.

Celebrity is way more upscale. Think Waldorf Astoria resort.

    You gotta be kidding me!

X is nothing like the Waldorf and I've never seen a wet t shirt contest on a cruise. I believe the post is being a tad exaggerated. I rest my case in older demographics and stubborn notions. I'm not a fan of CCL but after being on X, I can't say I'm a fan of them either. Kids are fine on CCL unless one is super, super conservative. FYI, I'm not a young guy at 59.

  14. Celebrity is like a Hilton or Marriott.

RCCl is like a Holiday Inn, Courtyard or Hilton Garden Inn.

Carnival is like a Bestwestern, Holiday inn express.

    IMHO

Celebrity has less kids activities, so be prepared to entertain the 15 year old. If your Mother, the grandmother needs a break, you shouldn't stick the 15 year old with the grandparents. Depending on the class of room you can't add a 3rd person.

The food choices on Celebrity are excellent & very upscale, think Ruth Christ each night. If you like the contest pool side, wet t-shirt contests, ect... then Carnival & RCCL are for you. If you perfer a calm day pool side Celebrity is the way to go.

You won't see anyone wearing blue jeans in the MDR on Celebrity, and I've seen ppl get turned away at MDR for not following dress code that evening. Carnival & RCCL are more relaxed and you'll see blue jeans in the MDR.

    Hope this helps. Happy cruising.

Food choices are far from Ruth CHRIS. The Hotel analogy is not close either - the mainstreams are pretty much the same with the exception of demographics. X = geriatric! old. Others mentioned = younger and livelier.

  15. Hi here is a something I found on the internet that I thought I share. I also have a drink calculator from the Adventure of the Seas drink package if anyone is interested in checking to see if it is worth purchasing. For me I received the Classic and upgrade just so I did not have to keep checking the price before ordering my drink. Not much of a drinker but love the Freedom.

I never once checked on the price when ordering within my classic.....the servers know if you call and the brand's not included. Only happened once in my crew when a buddy ordered a Stella which was not in.
