  1. Good evening, everyone. It is a beautiful day at Golden Beach. We had an easy trip up this morning and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon on the back deck overlooking Grand Traverse Bay. Have a great evening!
  2. I think they will be in business. They've been around since the 1980's. I think the real issue is that the manager of the job underestimated the time needed and the guys painting had to scramble to get done on time.
  3. Good morning, everyone! It is going to be a beautiful day here in mid-Michigan. But, we are packing up and heading to the Traverse City/ Elk Rapids area. I'm looking forward to siblings weekend at the lake. What is a salmon collar? This is a cut of the fish which includes the stiff pectoral fin, parts of the belly and a sizable piece of meat covered in a fat cap under the gills. Fast becoming a 'chefs cut' of meat, it is prized for its moistness and flavor, as well as inexpensive price. If you can't find salmon collars, use a different cut of the fish. Let's start with this recipe: https://sportingchef.com/grilled-salmon-collars/ Bon Appetit had a recipe for salmon collars, but it was behind the pay wall. It hasn't been long enough for me to qualify for free recipes yet. I keep getting a pop up that blocks the page and tells me the kitchen is closed. So, I looked elsewhere. https://honest-food.net/salmon-collar-recipe/ Those look pretty good! If you prefer sweet and sticky, Sitka Salmon Shares has a recipe for you. And, Sitka should know their salmon! https://www.sitkasalmonshares.com/blogs/culinary/recipes/sweet-and-sticky-salmon-collars Ok, I am off to get dressed and packed for our adventure today. We are picking up DB Jeff at 10:00 so I must get busy! Wishing you all a wonderful day!
  4. They know and it has been noted. I was told to take it up with corporate.
  5. Hugs to you, Terry, and to your DH. Prayers and warm, healing thoughts to you. Debbie says no pasta as well. I miss it now and then as well. I had Sue listed as beneficiary on all my bank accounts and on my retirement investments. I'm hoping that makes it easier for her if I go first. Let's hope you get to the bottom of it quickly and there is an easy treatment. It must be scary not knowing what the problem is. You're on mine. Hugs across the miles. I kept trying to post these this morning, but CC kept freezing up on me. I couldn't close out of it or anything. My neighbor came over this morning and helped me do my morning inspection. I showed him one area of the house where I have concerns about the paint job and he agreed with my assessment. When they were preparing the house for painting, they first scraped and then were supposed to sand, but they skipped the sanding step. There are places where the paint is going to easily chip off. We have a two year guarantee, so we will probably see them back next year to fix that side of the house. Otherwise, the house looks great!
  6. Good morning, everyone! The painters are done and now we just have to install the new light fixture on the deck and paint the trim around the roof and the front door. Next week. We tried installing the light fixture, but it wouldn't turn on. Back to the drawing board. The instructions were less than helpful, but I know I have white to white, black to black and ground to ground. We'll figure it out. We'll do the trim and door painting next week. Sue is going up north today, so I am on my own. I'm doing laundry and getting ready for a weekend at the lake house. Of course, the weekend we go up the temps are going to be on the cool side. No matter, we can always shop. Today's meal sounds like great comfort food. It would be a good side dish, but it does have sausage in it for protein and could be the main dish. https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/bow-ties-with-gorgonzola-sauce/ That does look good, but a tad too high in carbs for me. This next recipe doesn't have the sausage in it. The sauce recipe is slightly different from the first. You could add in the sausage if you like. https://www.justapinch.com/recipes/main-course/main-course-pasta/farfalle-bow-ties-with-gorgonzola-sauce.html This recipe calls for rocket (arugula) and speck. Speck is a type of cured, lightly smoked ham. It's typically made in South Tyrol, a province in northeast Italy known for its snow-capped Dolomite mountains and strong German-Austrian influence. Although a close cousin to prosciutto crudo, speck is worthy of its own distinction when it comes to cured hams. My Austrian great grandmother called bacon speck. https://emmylouloves.com/recipes/gorgonzola-and-speck-bowties/ I hope one of these works for you! @Mr. Boston safe travels to Northern Michigan. We'll be right behind you tomorrow. @cruzn single We'll be thinking of you and sending healing thoughts. Wishing you all a wonderful day.
  7. Good morning, everyone! I'm a bit late this morning as Sue and I both had fasting blood draws today. We were at the lab when they opened and then went to breakfast afterwards. The painters are here for their final touches, mainly a second coat of all the green areas. Brown areas have already received their second coat. Then it is up to Sue and me to do the celery green parts. The only hard part there is the one high peak on the west side of the house. We may hire our nephew to do that. Today's meal sounds delicious! I would substitute the low carb tortillas. If you don't like feta, use a different cheese. Here's an easy one to start: https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/feta-shrimp-tacos/ Hey, I have dishes just like those in the picture! Juicy shrimp, crunchy cilantro lime slaw, crumbled cheese, sweet & spicy sriracha mayo, all on a soft tortilla? Right here you have it: https://hannahmageerd.com/spicy-shrimp-tacos/ I love Greek food and these tacos called my name. https://greatist.com/eat/greek-style-shrimp-feta-tacos#1 @smitty34877 A week at the Cape may be just what the doctor ordered for Tana's caretakers. I hope you enjoy every minute of it. @kazu I am intrigues by rhubarb ice cream. I hope I get to try some when we are in Saint John this summer. If today is chocolate ice cream day, then I must celebrate! Onward! Wishing you all a wonderful day.
  8. Good evening, everyone. I had my surgical follow up visit this morning and I am all set to go. When I asked if I could go back to weight lifting, I thought he might choke, so I said I was joking. I'll give it another couple of weeks. Then, I went to the endocrinologist. The surgeon wanted me to follow up with him, so I did. I have graduated from the endocrinology practice since all of my issues have now been resolved. At least we think so. Painting continued today and there is a first coat on everything and a second coat on the hard stuff. Tomorrow we put the second coat on and do the touch ups. I went and got samples of the green for the flashing and we did test swatches. We're leaning towards the darker green one. In the sun the lighter one looks yellow.
  9. Good morning, everyone! It was an early start here in mid-Michigan. The painters arrived shortly before 7 am and we had to be up to open the garage for them. We also learned to open the windows as soon as they are done with them so that they don't get painted shut. We've got some good days to celebrate today, although I was never able to get a yo-yo to work. I'll have to stick to Higher Ed and gardening. I think I would like today's drink. I'm going to have to make a list of the drinks I like and take it with me on our cruise in July. Today's meal sounds really tasty. Never fear, @Mr. Boston, if you don't have an air fryer. Just cook it up on the top of the stove. Or, you can do the steak on the grill and the onions and peppers on the top of the stove. Or you can roast the onions and peppers in the oven. Lots of options! We'll start with this recipe: https://www.myforkinglife.com/air-fryer-steak-fajitas/ This next one has a slightly different marinade for the meat. https://everylittlecrumb.com/air-fryer-steak-fajitas/ The marinade for this one is sweeter, using honey. https://www.agoudalife.com/air-fryer-steak-fajitas/ They all look good and I don't think you can go wrong with any of these recipes. @RMLincoln Maureen, I am so sorry you are going through that financial mess. What kind of despicable creature would do that to others? I hope it gets straightened out quickly and you can recover your money. Wishing you all a wonderful day!
  10. @smitty34877 Wow, Miss Camilla really has grown up with the Daily! What a little beauty! The transformation of the house has begun. And we are going in a totally different direction for the trim around the roof and the doors. We think we'll do a muted celery green. It will be lighter, but fit in the color scheme without making the house look cartoonish. This is the before picture. Getting started.
  11. Good morning, everyone! What a great group of days. I loved my hot air balloon ride over Letchworth State Park in New York. What a thrill. Frozen yogurt is great and environment day is everyday. The painters have arrived! They are setting up right now and getting right to work. The transformation will be interesting to see. Today's meal sounds good to me. I'd skip the rice part and just do a regular slaw in order to keep the carbs at a level I can tolerate. This first recipe is the only one I found that has the actual rice slaw. https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/korean-salmon-skewers-with-rice-slaw/ These salmon skewers looked enticing to me. If you want the slaw, you can use the previous recipe, or just do your own slaw. https://www.haylskitchen.com/korean-bbq-glazed-salmon-skewers/ Next up are Korean inspired salmon tacos. They have a spicy slaw to go with them and could be cooked on a skewer. https://www.skinnytaste.com/korean-inspired-salmon-tacos/ These just plain looked and sounded good and they are close enough to the stated meal of the day to be included. https://thesubversivetable.com/miso-glazed-salmon-skewers/ Wishing you all a wonderful day! I'm off to watch the painters.
  12. Eva, that is a very moving story of your dad. After my mom and dad passed away I made books about them. They are much like Sandi's cruise books with lots of pictures, but also important information about each of them. I gave one to each sibling and one to each grandchild. The great grandchildren like to read the books about Great Grandpa Larry and Great Grandma Betsey. Sue and I went back to the paint store and explained our desires to the young man working today. He helped us pick out new colors. The orange no longer looks quite like Hallowe'en. At first we didn't see a difference in the reds, but as the new one dried we could see that it was a little darker and not so hot pinkish. This one is in the shade which is why the house looks green. It really isn't yet. And it will be a darker green. These are the new red and new orange. Here you can see them along with the original paint samples. This one is in the sun. I think I like the red better here. Of course, the orange is nice, too.
  13. Good morning, everyone! It is a chilly start to the day and we're loving it. As soon as I post this, I will get ready for the morning walk. This afternoon we are heading downtown for the annual Art Festival put on by the Center for the Arts. DB and DSIL went yesterday and said it was fantastic. Thinking about you today, Sandi. It is a bittersweet day for you. Sue and I are excited to meet you on board the Zaandam next month. We've never been to Corner Brook and we are looking forward to it. We plan to hike the stream trail on our own. That way I won't hold anyone up. I've gotten slower over time and one hip repair and two new knees have added to that slowness. All that metal is heavy to lug around. Today's meal is made for me. I love scallops and the wilted spinach sounds really good. This recipe is easy. The only change I would make is to add a hint of vinegar or lemon juice to the spinach. https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/scallops-with-wilted-spinach/ Low in calories, low in carbs, what a perfect meal! This next recipe has tips for getting a good sear on the scallops. You want the dry scallops, not the ones that have been treated with STP. STP allows the scallops to absorb extra water. I have never been able to achieve a sear on those. They steam rather than sear. Besides, who wants the chemicals in their food? https://www.dinner-mom.com/seared-scallops-wilted-spinach/ Tatsoi is the new spinach and a super food. https://food52.com/blog/6220-tatsoi-is-the-new-spinach-haven-t-you-heard This next recipe uses tatsoi, but you can easily substitute spinach if you can't find the tatsoi. https://recipeland.com/recipe/v/bacon-scallop-sauteed-tatsoi-52545 Wishing you all a wonderful day!
  14. Good morning, everyone from the Seven Slot Grille in Reed City, Michigan. Today is River's last soccer game so we got up before dawn to make the trek up here. I'm posting and will be back later to read. I agree that today's meal is more of a side dish. I'd skip it due to carbs. https://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/a39562253/baked-risotto-recipe/ This next one includes pancetta for some protein. https://joythebaker.com/2022/05/oven-baked-pea-pancetta-and-lemon-risotto/ This one is lemon and herbs. If you really want the peas, you can add them in. https://www.recipetineats.com/creamy-lemon-herb-baked-risotto-recipe/ Wishing you all a wonderful day!
  15. We were quite surprised by the colors as well and if we go orange, it will be a deeper orange. I would like to look for a real cranberry. This does look like fuschia. Fuschia is ok and would work, but we wanted cranberry. I'll come back with this when we get some of the house painted green. I think we need that to tell.
  16. Ok, Garden Club members, I have a few more entries. I'm just so excited that stuff is growing in my yard. Thank goodness Sue is here to keep them alive. And, we did do some test samples of our trim color on the house. No decision on our part until we see it with the green. But do tell us if you like the orange or the red.
  17. Good morning, everyone! Slept well last night and doing very well on the recovery from surgery. Today Sue and I are going to walk up to the restaurant nearby for breakfast. When we take our morning walks and head in that direction, we can often smell the toast and bacon. Lately it has been calling our names, so today we'll go and enjoy! Nothing else is on the agenda as Sue's car is in the shop. It needs a new front wheel bearing and new rear brakes. Some of this is from the joy of living on a gravel road for all those years. Hitting those ruts took a toll on the car. Today's meal sounds semi good to me. In direct contrast to @rafinmd Roy, I would love the mushroom ragout and leave out the polenta. Polenta is a dish of boiled cornmeal that was historically made from other grains. The dish comes from Italy. It may be served as a hot porridge, or it may be allowed to cool and solidify into a loaf that can be baked, fried, or grilled. Too many carbs for me. In Italian cuisine, ragù is a meat-based sauce that is commonly served with pasta. An Italian gastronomic society, Accademia Italiana della Cucina, documented several ragù recipes. The recipes' common characteristics are the presence of meat and the fact that all are sauces for pasta. Ok, we don't meet either characteristic in this recipe, but we shall continue on!. I like the idea of using red wine as a source of liquid in this recipe. https://themodernproper.com/mushroom-ragu-with-polenta This next one is a vegan offering. https://www.connoisseurusveg.com/wild-mushroom-ragu-creamy-polenta/ I had to include this one from Emeril. I can just taste the flavor explosion! https://www.emerils.com/127824/wild-mushroom-ragout-over-creamy-polenta Wishing you all a wonderful day!
  18. Busy morning so far. The central air is working well, so no worries there. Sue took her car in for work and we did our morning walk. I did a load of clothes that are in the dryer now. Then, we paired the garage door opener with my car. It is one of those with the learn button, so someone had to push the button on the opener and then someone had to push the button in the car within 30 seconds. On the third try it worked like a charm. Now we don't have to keep moving the remote around. Sue will have that full time since her car doesn't seem to have the pairing feature. This was a small victory, but a big one to us.
  19. Rabbit, rabbit, white rabbit! Good morning, everyone! It will be another hot one here in mid-Michigan with temps rising into the low 90s. We found out yesterday that the window air conditioner in the family room doesn't work. We don't know if it is the air conditioner itself, or the outlet. The way the house is constructed, the central air for the rest of the house won't reach the family room. Fortunately, the house does not heat up until late afternoon and cools down nicely in the evenings with the windows opened. So, that is what we plan to do. Today's meal is a nice one. Remember, if you don't like tilapia, you can always substitute any other mild, white fish. Our first recipe is for a tilapia with lemon pepper and a spring arugula salad. https://strengthandsunshine.com/lemon-pepper-tilapia-spring-arugula-salad-garlic-herb-croutons-gluten-free/ Nothing is easier than a sheet pan dinner. Here is one with tilapia, asparagus, and roasted potatoes. https://www.mashupmom.com/sheet-pan-tilapia-dinner/ If we're talking about springy type foods, these tilapia pineapple spring rolls fill the bill. https://www.thekitchn.com/tilapia-and-pineapple-spring-rolls-23396190 I couldn't resist this one with the chili/lime combination and an avocado salsa. Mmmmmhttps://tasty.co/recipe/chili-lime-baked-tilapia-with-avocado-crema Wishing you all a wonderful day!
  20. Wonderful news! Thanks for letting us know. Tell him to relax and rest. That is what works for me.
