  1. We sailed on the Equinox in late May and have no complaints whatsoever. She is probably my favorite ship after 30 something cruises. Service was excellent and the dining was spectacular. We are looing forward to sailing on this class ship again in the future.
  2. Thanks for all your replies. My brother and I did Wonderland for dinner last December on the Anthem, so I know it good it is. Our other picks will be Chop's and 150 Central Park. Also having Chef's Table, which never disappoints. Happy to hear the embarkation and disembarkation have been figured out. We have been spoiled by Royal going out of the Florida ports. Happy sailing, everyone.
  3. Hello, everyone, we have an upcoming spring break cruise on the Harmony out of Galveston. I have a few questions and would appreciate any feedback. We have not sailed out of Galveston since 2016, the embarkation and debarkation were a real mess back then, has this improved ? We have the three night specialty dining package and would like to know when the usual lobster night is so we know how to schedule our dinners. Looking at the online deck plans, I don't see the Diamond lounge, is it in the Crown Lounge ?
  4. We sailed on the Edge last October, 10 nighter out of Rome. We dined at almost every restaurant available and Eden was our favorite. The meal lasted about one and a half to maybe two hours. It never felt drawn out or rushed, the timing, service, and food was spot on. If we ever sail on an Edge class ship, we will book dinner at the Eden at least twice.
  5. On the Edge last October we dined at Eden once and Fine Cut twice. All four of us agreed that Eden was the better choice. Not only was the food better, so was the service and overall ambiance. Please consider Le Petit Chef also, very imaginative and entertaining.
  6. Thanks for your timely review, as we sailed on the Edge in mid October and our next Celebrity cruise is on the Equinox in late May. We have only one other previous cruise on Celebrity, a 10 night Constellation sailing during the summer of 2019. I am fairly certain that we will like the Equinox better. We had booked an aft balcony on the Edge but could not stay in the room because of a strong odor. Celebrity moved us to an aqua class room on deck 9. We did not like the infinite veranda at all, didn't feel like a balcony, just like a room with a large window. Celebrity gave us some other perks but it did not make up for us moving from the aft, as my sister and brother in law were two doors down from us. You are correct about the lack of shaded areas around the pool. It didn't affect us as much because our cruise was mid October in the Med. We loved Eden, probably our favorite part of the ship, dinner there was fantastic, and the nightly entertainment was first rate. All our meals were great, to include Le Petit Chef, a nice surprise since we came in with low expectations. We were also somewhat disappointed with Fine Cut. We greatly enjoyed the martini bar on the Constellation, but the one on the Edge did not measure up. It was not ice topped and had a completely different feel to it. We did appreciate the skill of the bartenders and they put on a good show. The noticeable lack of bars was apparent from the get go. The Edge has more passengers than the Equinox and almost half as many bars. Celebrity has added two more bars to their newest Edge class ships to remedy this.
  7. We were on the Edge, Oct 14th 10 night sailing. We tried all the different dining options except for the sushi place. All four of us agreed that our best dinner was at Eden and wished we had booked there a second time. I was hoping for the interactive experience but I guess Covid and too many complaints killed it. In addition, we all went to Eden almost every late night for the live entertainment. It was always very good.
  8. I stand by my previous post, I would have immediately went over to that table and politely asked them to turn off the music. Right is right, and wrong is wrong. If they wanted to escalate the situation, so be it.
  9. If I was seated anywhere near that table, I would have immediately walked over to the offending table and politely asked them to turn off the speaker. If they declined, I would have the maitre'd have them turn it off. I have never ran into such jerks on a cruise before.
  10. I was on the Dec 4th sailing and reservations for Spectra was required. We enjoyed it but once was enough. Music Hall had some real good entertainment, especially the Journey cover band.
  11. We were on a 10 day Edge cruise on Oct 14, out of Rome. And feel the same way you do about the Edge, underwhelmed. We had booked a sunset vista cabin, aft balcony, but couldn't use the room because of a distinct odor, Celebrity moved us to an Aqua Class cabin on deck 9, we were not impressed with the infinite veranda stateroom, basically just a large window. We didn't enjoy the martini bar as much as on the one on the Constellation, it lacked the ice top bar and had a completely different vibe. The pool deck had very few lounges under cover and out of the sun. We caught a few shows and the entertainment was just ok. I can appreciate Celebrity's willingness to try a different direction with this class, call me old school, it just wasn't my style. On the plus side, all our meals were very good, we ate at all the different restaurants except for Raw on 5 and the Rooftop Grille. Our dinners at Eden and Fine Cut were outstanding. We sailed at roughly 66 percent capacity, so the service was excellent. This summer we have booked a cruise on the Equinox and I think that this class of ship will be a better fit for us and other family members joining us.
  12. We were on the Edge about a month ago and tried Eden. The meal and service were spectacular, the best of all our dinners, and we tried each and every restaurant except for Raw on Five. If I had known how good it was, I would have booked it at least twice. Our least favorite dinners were at Blu and Cosmopolitan.
  13. My wife and I were on the Edge about a month ago. We always book a balcony, and from reading many iv reviews, I decided to book an aft cabin, which are all true balconies on the Edge class. Something happened the cruise before, because our room smelled real bad, Celebrity moved us up to an Aqua Class cabin, which was an infinite verandah. My expectations were confirmed with our new room, to me it is not a balcony, just a room with a large window. The only positive was that since our bed was towards the back of the room, we could leave the window open and hear the waves as we fell asleep.
  14. Thanks for all the info, I will be on the Anthem Dec 4 for a seven night cruise. I have always enjoyed going to the schooner bar and listening to the piano player. How was the rest of the nightly entertainment ? Two70 looks very interesting to me. Did you try North Star ? What was the late night 'club', Music Hall ?
  15. Hey, everyone, thanks so much for your replies. I have read many reviews and have seen numerous videos on youtube already. I always do my homework before sailing on a new class of ship that I have not been on before, it always helps to check on Cruise Critic with those who have been on the ship recently. I was on the Celebrity Edge last month, and the two ships seem quite similar. Cheers !
  16. I will be sailing on the Anthem, December 4th, seven nighter out of Cape Liberty, New Jersey. I have a few questions for those of you who have sailed on her, or one of her sister ships. 1. How was dining at Wonderland ? I will be cruising with my brother who doesn't have the most adventuresome taste in food. We have the three night dining package and wanted to try Chop's, Wonderland, and Jamie's Italian. 2. We are doing the late 8 pm dining at the mdr, are you able to switch restaurants among the four different ones ? 3. How was Two70 ? It looks like a very interesting venue. Do they have nightly shows ? 4. Does the Windjammer have outdoor seating ? 5. Is there always a charge for getting on the North Star ? Reservations required ? I have not sailed on this class of ship before and am looking forward to it. Please let me know if there are other interesting areas, or activities, that I should not miss. Thanks in advance for all replies.
  17. We were not allowed to make reservations until we got to the Beach Club.
  18. Yes, maintenance did try, to no avail. Oh, well, things could have been worse, not a good way to start a cruise, though.
  19. I will try to be as brief and honest as possible. Embarkation: Took maybe 30/35 minutes, most of it involved getting through the security check point. Stateroom: Since we didn't want an iv room, we booked an aft cabin, # 7315, room was very nice, at least 20% larger than a standard balcony room, and the balcony was probably twice the size. We dropped our luggage off around 12:30 and immediately noticed an odd smell. We went off to lunch, hoping it would be gone when we returned. We got back to the room around 4 pm and the odor was still present. The stateroom attendant came by to see if everything was ok with the room, so, they knew there was a problem. We asked to be upgraded, preferably to suite, but they could not accommodate our request, claimed all the suites were full, even though we were sailing at 2/3 capacity. Celebrity's answer was to move us to an Aqua Class room on deck 9, room #9292. We were not real happy with this since my sister and her husband were two doors down from us on deck 7 in room #7310. Celebrity did allow my sister and brother-in-law to dine with us one night in Blu, and a dinner for all four of us at Le Petit Chef in compensation for us having to move rooms. Meals: We usually ate breakfast in the main dining room, Cosmopolitan, service and food were excellent. If we had lunch on board it was always at the buffet, and it was very good to excellent. We tried to have dinner at all the restaurants, I believe that we only missed Roof Top Garden, Raw on 5, and Dinner on the Edge. All four of the main dining rooms were good, with Cypress being our favorite. Le Petit Chef, Fine Cut, and Blu were all excellent, with Eden being spectacular. Shore Excursions: Six out of our seven excursions were booked through Celebrity, most of our tour guides were awesome, two of them we could not understand and gave us confusing instructions, so we felt a bit cheated. All in all, from my experience, Celebrity does the best job with shore excursions. Entertainment: We never went to the theater, so I can't really comment on that. The entertainers in Eden and the Grand Plaza were very good and we enjoyed them almost every night. Bars/Clubs: The bartenders were all friendly and attentive, we never had to wait for service. We usually had a drink or two at the Martini Bar, always a good time. I went to the Club late, around 12 or 1 am, a few times and it was always very quiet, not much of a party at all. Pool Deck: Nicely laid out, only negative would be the lack of shade, I don't know if this kind of ship would be good in the Caribbean. Disembarkation: A breeze, we were off the ship in no time. Final Thoughts: Overall, another fantastic cruise, only our second with Celebrity, our first being on the Constellation. We are doing an 8 day Equinox cruise in late May out of Ft Lauderdale, I think that I will like this class of ship better due to it's layout, abundance of bars , and a more traditional main dining room experience. Cheers
  20. Booking through Blue Chip, they told me that I could not purchase cruise insurance with them and would have to book with a third party, AON. I call AON and they were fairly reasonable. Cheers, William
  21. We are sailing on the Edge next week, Friday Oct 14, 10 nighter out of Rome. Our tests can be self administered, all we need to show as proof is a picture of the neg test. So, we have the free tests the government sent us, and will use them the day before we sail. Easy, peasy.
  22. This review confirms my expectations of my upcoming Edge sailing. We are booked in a sunset veranda stateroom on deck # 7. Those infinite veranda rooms are not true balcony staterooms in my opinion. We were originally sailing an eight night itinerary on the Infinity out of Barcelona with two other couples. Celebrity then decided to keep the Infinity in the Caribbean, so we lift and shifted to a 10 nighter out of Rome on the Edge. Our only other previous Celebrity cruise was a 10 night Adriatic sailing on the Constellation out of Venice. We were used to the newer Royal ships and had reservations about an older, smaller ship, these fears proved to be unfounded as the service and dining were fantastic on our Constellation cruise, even our then 12 year old son thought it was one of our best vacations. Constellation had a great lounge right outside the main dining room where we would meet friends before dinner, I don't see this on the Edge deck plans. After dinner we usually had a martini on the ice topped martini bar, there is a martini bar on the Edge but I don't think we will enjoy it as much. We are booked on the Equinox in late May, and I think, by looking at the deck plans, that this is a ship that we will enjoy more. The one area of Edge that most intrigues me is Eden, looks like a lot of fun, we plan on dining there at least once, perhaps twice. I hope that the bar is open late there, since my room is on deck # 7 aft, I will probably have a nightcap there frequently before calling it a night. Cheers !
  23. We did it on our Jun 5 Mariner sailing, cost around 200 per person for four of us. It was paid by my brother in law as a treat for us on our annual family vacation. It was very private, secluded, and the lunch was fantastic, filet and lobster. The nicest beach excursion that I have ever been on. Was it worth 200 per person ? No, not really, at the most I would pay 100. I would grab it at 79. I was at CocoCay a month later, off the Explorer, this time we did Thrill Park for 79 per person. I enjoyed the wave pool, the kids loved all the slides. The buffet type lunch was fine. I will be back there in December, on my Anthem cruise, and will probably just skip all the hoopla and get the first lounger I can find and relax on the beach.
  24. Yeah, I am not counting the retreat pool bars as we are not staying in a suite and will not have access to it. Looking at Celebrity's deck plans, there are not nearly as many bars on the Edge class compared to the Solstice class, plus the Solstice class has less passengers. We know that both cruises will be fantastic, just different. We sailed on the Allure a few years back, while our then 12 year old son loved it, we just thought it was too many people all crowded together. I would rather pay more and not have to deal the masses.
  25. We love martinis, usually right after dinner at the martini bar. Just a standard martini, gin, a little vermouth, straight up with a few olives, and we are fine for the rest of the evening.
