  1. NCL doesn't cater to the under 3 crowd. There are no drop off programs, no nurseries, and no pools for diapered children. However, I've found their children's programs to be top notch. I wouldn't sail NCL with a one year old. Some of RCCL ships have nurseries, as does DCL.

We will be taking RCI, however, the itineraries for next year are not out yet ;(. Just waiting to plan.

  2. Is that a nursery, or simply a place parents can take their kids to play?

It just looked like a place for parents to bring their kids, and to play with them. But it was SO small. When we went in there, there were 4 adults and a 1 & 2 year old and it felt super crowded. Imagine if they're packed with the under 3 set? I just thought it would have been a bit bigger to accommodate them.

I'm a little surprised at the size of the room they had on the Breakaway for the littlest people..age newborn to 3 yo. Our son just turned one on the cruise. Please see the pic, sorry for the clarity of the picture. the room was incredibly tiny! I can only imagine the issue when lots of children are onboard and this is the only area they have to play in. There were no counselors, the room was freezing cold(yes it was 19 degrees out, hence all the reason more for heat to be in the room), and there was a sink and a soap dispenser. Glad I stumbled upon this atrocity. If a line is touting that they accommodate children, it should do a better job than this. I guess our son will have to go on RCI or Carnival to be better accommodated.

  4. another vote for the "suite life" on NCL- it's ideal for young kids because you can put them to bed (often in a separate room of the suite!) and have the butler bring you dinner from any restaurant on the ship (specialty dining, main dining room, whatever) and enjoy a nice dinner for 2. I also had the butler keep milk and fruit stocked in the fridge for us, which really helped. Just having the extra space was well worth it, but the butler made it a no-brainer. You won't regret it.

Now THAT sounds like a fabulous idea!!

  5. I found that out when we booked our honeymoon and got an aft suite and was a little bummed. But can't complain, it was a nice b2b...not same cabin tho...

I had no clue that all ships don't have butlers. I think it's something I'd like to try once.

  6. Beautifully said! We will definitely enjoy! Thank you.

Even if the child may not have specific memories of trips that they took when they were infants, a person is a sum of all of their experiences.

If only those things we "remember" are important as to who we become -- we could just deposit infants into robotic pods that would automatically care for their physical needs until they turn 4 (or 6 or 8 or some other "magic" age) at which point they'd get spit out into the world.

While DD no longer remembers the trip we took to California when she was bearly 8MO, it floored me that when she was exactly 3YO and we were on the plane to New Mexico - we were talking and her dad mentioned we were going to be in the mountains. He went on to say she had never seen mountains before -- She was indignant and insisted she had seen a mountain and it "had water coming out of it". He and I looked at each other realizing she was telling us about Yosemite. We have no pictures from that trip, and while we may have mentioned the trip a few times, we did not really ever dwell on the trip, let alone spend much time talking about the day we spent at Yosemite, but at that time she remembered.

While she may or may not have specific memories from some of the multitude of trips we took over her 19 years contribute greatly to the person she is now. I do not regret any of the trips with her. You go and have a great time on his special day. Happy Birthday!

  7. Onessa, I had hubby order his shirt last night. Lol. I can't wait! Been a year since we cruised last and I'm itching to get onboard, albeit only for a weekend.
