  1. That's what I'm saying. We just wanted to get away for a quick weekend. ;) We will make a small production of it, nah he definitely won't remember it! Lol

  2. We have 25 days until we sail and I'm itching to start packing but the cases are still in the loft waiting for Rob to get them down. Is it just me or is this the right time to start gathering bits and get those luggage labels on the cases!!

I've always said it's NEVER too early to pack!! I'm known to pack a few months out. Particularly if it's a summer cruise.

  3. My cruising pet peeves pretty much revolve around inconsiderate people, oblivious people, and self-centered people.

The one I will never forget:

My wife and I were in the windjammer for lunch on the Allure appx. 2 years ago. Moderately busy. We were one row away from the windows, and about 1/2 way through our meal. There were plenty of empty tables, and one just opened up next to the window as a couple (60ish) was walking by. They both looked like PITA's.

They decided to grab this table, I suppose for the view. It had not been cleaned yet, as the other people just left. I see them stack up all of the dirty dishes, utensils, napkins....and then bring them to the table where my wife and I are eating! They placed the dirty dishes on our table and said, "You don't mind, do you?". I was speechless and just looked at them (probably with my mouth open).

So now the wife and I are just shocked, and trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. They were at a 4-person table, and so were we. We figured they had two more people coming (still not appropriate), but nobody else showed up! Steam was probably coming out of my ears at this point.

When we left, I took every single dirty thing off of our table and brought it to theirs (while they were about 1/2 way through their meal). It took me two trips. I said, "You don't mind, do you?", and left. I still can't believe this happened.

WOW!!! That is exactly what happened to my mom and I while we were taking a cruise in Greece. We did the EXACT same thing you did! Our story was we were on the bus on the way to the pier when a group of individuals got on. On the ship we were enjoying the sun and eating when one of the individuals from the bus brings over his groups dirty plates and sits it down on a table between mom and I. Now being the evil New Yorker I am...I didn't go off. I calmly took me and my moms plates along with theirs(I have no waitress training, mind you) and walked over to where they were and deposited at their table said "I believe these are yours" to the applause of several pax. That is one story I will NEVER forget.

  4. We did the exact same thing, both systems worked well!

To the OP- congratulations!!! We sailed the Liberty of the Seas with our 10-month old on January. I did a full photo review, the link is in my signature. He's a "go with the flow" type of baby, so traveling with him was much easier than we anticipated. We brought grandma with us, so she was able to watch him overnight once so we could be alone and get some sleep.

We had a great time, and are booked for the Quantum next April. Our little guy will be with us again. Cruising with a baby is definitely a different kind of vacation, but if you plan well and manage your expectations, everyone can have a great time.

Thanks Faith. I'm starting to get that itch for cruising again. Last one we took was for our baby moon. So it will start up next year!! Have fun on the Quantum! We are a "go with the flow" kind of family. We take nothing seriously on vacation.

  5. Well first congrats!!!

I think it totally depends on the person. On most lines you can start sailing when they're 6 months. I took my daughter at 10 months. She did fine, no sickness, slept fine. I cruised when my son was 18 months & I found 10 months a lot easier. She was content to sit in her stroller and people watch. He wanted to run everywhere & climb everything like a chicken without its head ;) I don't know that I'd do 18 months again but I would do 10 ;)

Ps. We liked Norwegian better than Carnival for the under 2s as they had a room with toys & activities for the little ones open all day while carnival had nothing like that & we had to find an empty lounge to let him run around in.

Thank you. We are happy ;)

We haven't been on NCL since DH first cruise in 2008. He loved it. I will keep that in mind for the boy.

  6. Wow! As usual CC people come through. Little E is 2 months now. We are looking at a 2 day cruise to nowhere for his birthday next January (just a trial to get his cruise toesies wet). I'm sure by that time he'll be sleeping thru the night. DH and I were booked on the Quantum, but I cancelled when I found out I was pregnant. The quantum will have to wait. So many choices to make. I'd love to get a cruise where we can get the 3rd pax discount or kid goes for free discount. In terms of "old folks" ship, I was referring to a line that caters to more mature folks, with not necessarily a lot of kids on board. I'm sure E's personality will come thru which will determine his cruising style. I'm sure he will love the rocking motion of the boat.

  7. DH and I welcomed our little one to the world recently. Already thinking about out next cruise. We were supposed to be on the Quantum of the Seas this December...alas,,,E prevented that from occurring ;). So, we are thinking, when we can go, but not sure when or how he would fare. How old was your little one when they first cruised? Did they sleep soundly? Seasickness? I'm glad to finally join this forum.

We are not tied to any specific lines and can take any one..but not an "old folks" ship ;). We love activities and going crazy and meeting new people. So throw your suggestions out there people!!

  8. I was on a Princess cruise to Alaska with my mom and my son. My son was 15 at the time. He made several new friends quickly. He would spend most of his time in the teen club. His curfew was midnight every night. I would always check on him before going to the cabin for the night. He was always home on time…..until the second to the last night. I had fallen asleep. I woke up at 4:00AM to find he was not there. I quickly got dressed. I started searching the ship. I was so sick to my stomach thinking the worst had happened. I first went to the swimming pool area. I ran into a crew member and described my son and asked if he had seen him. He said yes, he’s over there with his girlfriend. I look up and see a boy lying on top of a girl in a lounge chair covered up with a blanket making out. I was instantly relieved but mad at the same time. I walked up to them and slapped him on the top of the head. He looks up and IT’S NOT MY SON! I said oops, you’re not my son. I asked if he knew him and he said yes but didn’t know where he was. Of course the boy and girl were in total shock and their eyes were as big as saucers. My stomach was again in knots. I went back to the elevator not knowing where to go next. That’s when I heard a bunch of laughter coming from the deck below. I walked down the stairs and the first person I see is my son. He knew by the look on my face he was in trouble. He said “Mom I’m sorry, I left me key in the room” I told him knocking on the door worked great.

I told him he was grounded the next night. Of course being the softy, I felt bad and let him go to the teen club on the last night. But I told him he better NOT be late. He was in the room by 11:45.

That was one of the worse nights of my life. There were several teens out at that hour. I can not for the life of me understand why a parent would allow that. Maybe they didn’t know they were out. But I can’t imagine all the parents not knowing. But I do laugh now about slapping the wrong kid on top of the head. All the kids were given T-shirts and everyone sighned each others shirts. The kid I slapped signed his name and said "I will never forget your mother" on my son's shirt. LMBO!

THAT was a good one!! Roflmao!

  9. In all my years of cruising, I'd say 20, I've only flown 4x! I prefer to leave from the tri state area or even as far as Boston or Baltimore(neither of which I have cruises from). A new ship is a big deal in a big market!! This is why I would never leave NY!! I love coming out of my house, Jumping in a cab, flying down the Westside Highway And then hopping on a ship!! Can't beat it!

  10. I'm a social worker that just got back from Australia! One of the doctors I work with said 'how can you afford to go to Australia??!' He's a psychiatrist and his wife is a social worker. I just told him that mommy and daddy enjoy spoiling their little girl. He's such a card with his sense of humor!

I work very hard and it's a stressful job! I'm entitled to a break.
