  1. Since boarding school, I’ve never had a problem with packing, simply taking the minimum I am likely to need (+spare underwear). It helps being totally uninterested in clothes. Having said that, I almost always end up with a couple of items I discover I haven’t worn, things like an unnecessary cardigan for a Med. Cruise. I don’t think I would ever take more than three pairs of shoes, unless going to somewhere very cold, where I needed robust walking shoes. What would be the point?
  2. I thought water nest sounded rather nice, sort of homely.
  3. I think it is a US requirement, not NY being tediously finickety.
  4. I wouldn’t know who that was, but trust I would be directed if I asked.
  5. I think the Waitrose checkout is a bit different, as I have shopped there so long that I do know some of the checkout people well enough to chat to. But I have no idea who the management is, any more than on Cunard. I suppose it can be helpful if you want to know whom to complain to. 🙂
  6. That is what nuns are for. What era of female fashion would they approve of?
  7. Have a word when you get on board, perhaps?
  8. I would find much more of a drawback would be the closeness of the horizon. I like to see a nice long way.
  9. Can’t you even find a little bit of rust to complain about? 🙂
  10. When I first moved here, there was a sleeper from Scotland to Bournemouth, and therefore Southampton. That would have been useful. In fact I think it actually terminated at Weymouth. I used to see it as I walked to work in the mornings.
  11. Very bad. If they had just said they couldn’t discuss it, fair enough, but they deliberately lied and mislead you.
  12. Don’t you get kept awake by a swishing sound every time the ship moves?
  13. Yes, that is what I have observed with QG. Unless you arrange something different, of course.
  14. I think the Grills breakfast menu has a few extra items: things like mixed seasonal berries and devilled kidneys.
  15. I always like to have documentation. After all, we all know what Cunard admin. is like.
  16. I don’t think they are alone. I seem to remember a company that produced meat substitutes gave up production entirely a few months ago. I must say though, if I were a vegan, I would want to eat actual food made from vegetables etc, not something pretending to be meat.
  17. Smart attire simply means a dress shirt and trousers, skirt and a top, or a cocktail dress. Essentially, choose something along the same vein as you’d wear to a stylish restaurant or the theatre on a special occasion. The above is from the FAQ on the UK site.
  18. Unless they have changed it, which is not beyond the bounds of possibility, the brochure says a collared shirt, with or without jacket. So that’s that.
  19. Sounds a very poor butler. Failing to deliver a Daily Programme is one thing, arguing about it is completely inexcusable. And what an incredible cheek to rifle through your papers. I normally ensure I am fully packed up before breakfast, which I attend well after 7, so that they can turn over the room, leaving only the bathroom for us to use when we get back from breakfast. This has always worked fine.
